I don't think the average American beef-eater will like Japanese beef. There's way too much fat in it. And on top of that, there are too many average Americans supporting their president's America-first mantra.

Dumb,

Need cheaper beef than cheaper wine.

The naysayers, as usual, poo-poo any kind of progress, but in reality this is a win-win.

same as the TPP members with Japan, the US and Japan trade minister both stated that US wouldn't be getting any lower tarriffs than the other TPP members, but since Trump pulled out of the TPP, US exporters have lost market share to TPP members who had a head start on the lower tariffs, now the US has to play catch up in the market share they lost since pulling out of the TPP in favor of an almost identical FTA with Japan. not as much of a win win for the US side as it is for the TPP members.

“there are too many average Americans supporting their president's America-first mantra.”

Japan can hardly cry foul. After all, they wrote the game book on exploiting the openness of others in order to advance their own economic interests, whilst ensuring the drawbridge was at all times raised sufficiently high to deter or impede all but the successful few who’ve sought inroads into their own market.

Don't try to bbq a greasy oily Japanese steak. You will burn down your village. But cut into thin slivers and over a Hibachi...damn good.

For steaks... Sadly most of the American Beef imported into Japan and made available to me... is not of great quality, and the equivalent Japanese Beef is not good either for the price range of below 300yen/100g.. Aussie Beef is ok, but the price now is hitting the roof. As for Japanese Wagyu beef... hah, that's way off my my purchasing list locally unless I find a really good discount.... I doubt that that type of beef is subjected to higher import duties as, it has no competition .. just like certain Super-cars.

There is a trade in counterfeit Japanese Kobe Beef in the USA. https://www.businessinsider.com/most-kobe-beef-served-in-the-us-is-fake-2016-7 Lots of restaurants abuse the name instead of both the type and where it was raise and how it is labeled in Japan. At best, in the US, it came from Japanese Wagyu cows, hopefully.

Real Kobe beef is much sought after in the USA. The fat is where most of the flavor is in meats and real Kobe beef has it spread very evenly thanks to the genetics of the 12 bulls.

This is nothing. Get in writing, no tariff increases on autos or auto parts.
