Uighurs 'face fight for existence' against China: Kadeer

The Chinese killing off the Uighur people, Japan gives them a voice to let the world know about the atrocities committed by China, and at the same time Chinese complains about Japan during WWII in Nanking? That readers is the true face of China - they are two faced liars who distort history and facts and bury it with propaganda and irrational arrogance.

The Chinese government says it is assimilating and eventually eliminating the Uighur people and other indigenous people.....What indigenous people she is talking? Those nomadics were refugees actually! Her statement was a deception!

Some of the posters here assume that the minorities are always the victims. This human rights problem affects all people, whether they're ethnic Uighur, Tibetan or Han. I have no doubt that problems exist, but as some have said, the one-child policy only affect the Han, while minority groups also get other concessions. As for extinction or loss of culture, the minorities are allowed to speak their own language. Can someone tell me the state of Okinawan and Ainu culture? How many people still speak those languages or practice their old way of life? Hell, what's even happened to their own countries. Same for Hawaiians and Australian aborigines. Yeah, I'm all for protecting the Uighur culture. But most of the criticism is coming from nations who have practically killed off their own natives and their cultures.

They all show the pro-China propaganda---the ugly, inhumane side of China with their arrogance and ambition to repress the rights of diverse ethnic groups in China and to dominate surrounding nations outside of China.

the uighurs have to find a way to evolve and remain viable, and a degree of integration with the chinese in the present context of a modernizing economy would seem inevitable.

insofar as culture is tied to the economy, they face the same problems many other peoples have faced throughout history.

i'm empathetic to the desire to maintain culture, but there is an imperative to evolve, as well.

They'll have their land back after the Han have stripped it of its oil, coal and other valuables. The Tian Shan will remain, though, and the karez will always carry its water to the oases where the hami melon and grapes thrive. I have fond memories of my time there and hope the current scourge lifts as soon as possible - and that those under it are able to endure in the meantime.

It is well known that polygyny is extremely rare among Turkic groups including Uighurs.

Thank you for striking another blow in the battle against overwhelming ignorance.

I assure you that, with some, the battle is never-ending.

The Uyghurs are just one of many ethnic minorities facing repression by China and her majority Han population. Chinese policy is to eradicate other cultures in favor of their own. It is the modern day equivalent of what the 19th century Americans did to the Native cultures of the west.

Most of the above posts sound like the usual pro-China propagandists who ignore the facts in favor of silly ideas that China is somehow protecting the world from Islam. This argument entirely misses the fact that these policies effect other minorities in China that are not Muslim.

China is a repressive state and only their propaganda ministry and their minions consider the place to be on the right path on this topic.

I fully support the efforts of Uyghurs to protect their culture and to share their message with the world.

It is well known that polygyny is extremely rare among Turkic groups including Uighurs.

Although polygyny was legal in Ottoman Empire, in late 19th century only 2.5% of muslim Ottoman men were polygamous, majority of them being of Arab or Kurdish descent. This is much lower than the rate of 12% for Mormons in 19th century America.

You won't face extinction at all , just obey the law of the authority : one child policy ? then... one child per family until the law changed. Besides ,there are billions of muslims around the globe.

Without the existence of east turkistan is the fundamental factor of peace in middle asia, that was because the roots of 'dissatbility and racial conflicts' has been rooted out! Good job, China!
