Japan is hoping…

Quote: Japan’s vice foreign minister, Odawara Kiyoshi, said his country will do its best “to make this United Nations working as a whole.”

He said Japan’s priorities for the Security Council are “to work effectively,” focus on implementation and “human security including energy and food,” and also make efforts to address the situation in North Korea.

The whole SC should be abolished with all countries casting their votes. that any country should have veto power is exactly what has made the UN so inept and unable to achieve consensus.

Get rid of the veto and make the UN more democratic.

The Security Council will continue to be as useless as it has been for as long as the 5 VETO powered members are holding that ultimate veto power.

Nothing is getting done or accomplished because of the VETO powers, if and when this OBSOLETE and Antique world order is dismantled only then the UN can serve it's purpose.

Japan among 5 new members elected to U.N. Security Council

why?

U.N. member nations elected five countries to join the powerful U.N. Security Council on Thursday with no suspense or drama because all were unopposed -- Ecuador, Japan, Malta, Mozambique and Switzerland.

ahhh, that makes sense. Wow, Japan. Flirting with the main eventers there. Malta and Mozambique?

The UN is going so far down their bench, they just don’t care anymore.

Security council seats for everyone!!!!

The results of the secret ballot vote in the 193-member General Assembly were Ecuador 190, Japan 184, Malta 185, Mozambique 192, and Switzerland 187.

Interesting to see Japan had the least number of votes, may not be important but it may indicate how the country is perceived by the other members of the UN.

It will be Mozambique and Switzerland’s first time serving on the council, Japan’s 12th time, Ecuador’s third and Malta’s second.

12th time!!!!! Are they paying for it?

As long as there are veto powers for any country this organization is just a waste of time!

The UN is a joke.

Coincides with Japan's recent year-to-year record-busting weapons buying (initiated by Abe in 2012)

Oh yeah - the totally useless clowns at the U.N. In the news again! Thousands upon thousands of people working for one of the world's most useless institutions - all paid from all of our taxes! Get rid of the russia in there and U.N. might have a chance at redemption (might)....

“Powerful UN Security Council “

pft since when. “We strongly condemn x countries actions”

ok… and

“we’ll we condemn it!”

that will teach em…

Maybe Switzerland can teach the UN how to be more neutral and humanitarian

Ecuador, current civil war-like conditions and political fight between being a US puppet or not.

Japan, US puppet paying and hosting 3.5% of land to US military.

Malta, off-shore banking

Mozambique, civil war based on Christian oppressing muslims

Switzerland. Against it constitution, supplying weapons to Neo-Nazi affiliated Ukraine.

great choices.
