Use scientific data? What, do a polygraph on every individual of every country and invade their privacy? LOL.

Polls have a margin of error. Trump winning fell within that margin of error. Doesn’t make polls useless. If so, there wouldn’t be polls.

Amazing how you ignore the information in news report provided and come up with your own inference to support your narrative.

You’ve got to be kidding. This show randomly polled only 100 people from different countries on their opinion of which country lies the most. There was zero basis in fact, which means there is absolutely NOTHING valid about this ranking and the fact that you think otherwise is frightening.

The only factual basis would be from a polygraph test, which is obviously impractical. So the next best thing is the informal survey. Give credit where it’s due. 100 people over 40 countries? That is 2.5 people per country? You realize more than half the countries had less than 20% of respondents say they were habitual liars. In other words, there were at least 5 respondents per country for at least 20 countries. Sure is 100 people in total - for those obviously without logic.

You really don't get it.

If you want to poll people on what country has the prettiest women or the best looking cars, sure, ask random people their opinion. If you want to gauge which country lies the most, you need scientific data. You know why? Because if you ask two Koreans what country lies the most what are they going to say? Japan. If you ask two Japanese what country lies the most, what are they going to say? Korea. Opinions are just that. Opinions. They have no scientific basis and you can't rank something tangible like amounts of lies using just opinions.

Just a reminder, informal polls also said Hillary Clinton would be the US president in 2016.

I didn’t fail to comprehend anything. You gave incorrect unreliable information again and I corrected you.

Either you have no idea what you’re talking about or you are deliberately trying to misinform. Either way, it’s a good indicator that your information should be taken with a grain of salt.

Unreliable information?

The Yomiuri Shimbun

the government is reluctant to hold talks on revising the guidelines as it could result in both the Sea of Japan and the East Sea being used in conjunction. However, there are fears that Japan could be backed into a severe situation as the IHO has shown a tough stance, according to sources.

As part of its efforts, the IHO secretariat has urged Tokyo, Seoul and Pyongyang — which has made claims similar to those of South Korea — to hold informal discussions by the time the 2020 meeting is held.

According to diplomatic sources, while Japan was reluctant to accept the request, the secretariat strongly demanded last autumn that if Japan did not agree to hold talks, it might consider not simply revising the guidelines but scrapping them altogether. For that reason, the government is believed to be making arrangements to agree to hold the discussions.

Don’t give me twisted stories like all Japanese apologists do. Scrapping does not mean keeping the name Sea of Japan/ East Sea. It means getting rid of it.

Yes. Unreliable information. Just because you don't understand what people are talking about, doesn't mean your assumptions are correct. The IHO is warning Japan that it will do whatever the hell it pleases if Japan and Korea can't come to an agreement. And in this case, it means using both.

The IHO has been very clear on their stance on naming conflicts of bodies of water since way back in 1974 when they released Technical Resolution A.4.2.6.

"It is recommended that where two or more countries share a given geographical feature (such as a bay, a strait, channel or archipelago) under different names, they should endeavour to reach agreement on a single name for the feature concerned. If they have different official languages and cannot agree on a common name form, it is recommended that the name forms of each of the languages in question should be accepted for charts and publications unless technical reasons prevent this practice on small scale charts."

Your notion that the international organization responsible for maintaining names of bodies of water would just leave an entire sea name blank because people can't agree on it is laughable.

So much for your facts. You know, there’s a limit to how much you can defend fake news.

You're absolutely right, but I don't think it applies to who you think it does.

This was an informal survey done by a TV SHOW.

The fact that it was an informal survey makes it even more LEGIT.

You think that if the show had made it formal and said, "we are doing a survey on which nation lies the most", people would give an honest answer? Given Japan's habitual tatemae and obsession with what the world thinks of them, no one in Japan would have answered yes to lying.

If Korea were ranked higher than Japan in that survey, every Japanese would have embraced the results. But being the hypocrites, the Japanese can't accept it because Korea was ranked way lower than Japan.

You’ve got to be kidding. This show randomly polled only 100 people from different countries on their opinion of which country lies the most. There was zero basis in fact, which means there is absolutely NOTHING valid about this ranking and the fact that you think otherwise is frightening.

Wrong again. The IHO will use both names if an agreement can't be reached.

I know using the correct information doesn't fit your anti-Japan agenda, but you could at least try to be a little more accurate.

Pointing out the difference in civility between IHO and Japan was my main point which again you fail to comprehend.

Perjury 172 times as much as Japan ( 430 times as much per capita)

False complaints 500 times as much as Japan (1250 times as much per capita)

Fraud 100times as much as USA

If we go with this argument, you should also talk about how a lot of the crimes in Japan go unreported because either the victims are bullied or they feel ashamed for being a fool, not to mention the pathetic judicial system.

You forgot who was making that 9:1 BS claim.

https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2019/08/23/national/politics-diplomacy/japan-south-korea-gsomia-intelligence-pact/

Hideshi Takesada, professor at the graduate school of Takushoku University and a noted Korean expert who worked at Japan’s National Institute for Defense Studies for 36 years, said the ratio of benefits Seoul enjoyed through the pact to those Tokyo enjoyed has been around 9-to-1.

It's quite obvious from that statement that Mr. Takesada Hideshi is an amateur as far as defense architecture of Northeast Asia is concerned, he's clueless that the radar feed that Japan was getting from the US was actually from Korea, and this feed is subject to a cut-off after November 23rd.

This is why policy makers in Tokyo are mistaken that Japan would suffer no real harm after the termination of the GSOMIA. Only when their screens go dark and Americans say they must cut off signals now will politicians realize they royally screwed up.

It's back to the days of Japan in the dark while North Korean missiles are flying over Japan.

So let me get this straight, because I don't want there to be any misunderstanding.

You originally posted this article, not me.

To be 100% clear, now you are trying to say to everyone here reading this that only the parts you choose from this article are accurate and anything that disproves your claims is inaccurate.

Is that really what you are saying now?

Think really hard about this. How low can your credibility sink?

8 ( +8 / -0 )

@Samit Basu

I will accept and believe your desperate attempt to convince everyone here that Japan needs GSOMIA more than Korea and that Korea gets nothing from GSOMIA if you can provide proof that South Korea successfully convinced North Korea to disarm with their nuclear weapon. As of now, North Korea is walking all over South Korea on every attempt the South makes for any kind of dialogue. Kim has zero respect on Moon. GSOMIA is needed by all parties involved (Japan, S Korea, the US) to secure and protect the region. What do you think S Korea will do if Kim decides to destroy the South? GSOMiA will help ensure all 3 allies, share info to counter the attack. Unless you think Kim will spare the South and only bomb Japan, which is silly because we're talking about Kim here, who has no respect to the South.

Don't be blinded by hatred. Its counter productive.

I am selling the facts. You refusing to buy the truth is none of my problem.

https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2019/08/23/national/politics-diplomacy/japan-south-korea-gsomia-intelligence-pact/

The three countries often need to join forces to deal with North Korean military threats. Before GSOMIA was concluded, Washington had to remove intelligence provided by Japan when it shared sensitive military information with Seoul.

And the reverse was true; when Japanese officials walked into the US base's control room in Japan displaying radar feed from Korea, the USFJ officials had to turn screens off in order to comply with the terms of US-Korea GSOMIA.

Facts? You aren't even on the same page of this argument.

But for fun, let's point out some juicy nuggets you seem to have missed (ignored) in this article you posted.

Here's some of the best parts about how bad Moon has screwed up. Take special note about the ratio of 9 to 1:

"it is the South Korean military that will suffer the most from the move because Seoul has enjoyed the greatest benefits under the pact, which was mainly designed to promote the exchange of sensitive military secrets over North Korea’s ballistic missile threats."

"the ratio of benefits Seoul enjoyed through the pact to those Tokyo enjoyed has been around 9-to-1."

"Japan’s radar systems, including those equipped on Aegis destroyers and land-based systems within its territory, can track most of the trajectory of a ballistic missile flying from North Korea with assistance from the U.S. forces"

"Those radar systems can also determine where a ballistic missile falls in the sea around Japan, usually hundreds of kilometers away from the Korean Peninsula."

"Such a task is impossible for the South Korean military’s radar system because of the curvature of the Earth, he said."

If that's not enough, let's take a look at some comments from the article regarding the US attitude about South Korea's bumbling mistakes:

“Without GSOMIA, the capability and deterrence power of the U.S. military will be considerably reduced”

"Meanwhile, the U.S. expressed “strong concern” and “disappointment” Thursday with Seoul’s decision to withdraw from the pact, with both the State Department and Pentagon issuing rare public rebukes of South Korea.

The statements came after a South Korean presidential official reportedly said that the U.S. had expressed its understanding of Seoul’s decision — remarks U.S. officials made clear had angered Washington.

“The United States has repeatedly made clear to the Moon administration that this decision would have a negative effect on U.S. security interests and those of our allies,”

Now, pay special attention to that last part. I'll repeat it for you:

this decision would have a negative effect on U.S. security interests and those of our allies

This is where Moon is going to get a kick to the groin if he doesn't start playing nice.

Thanks for posting that article though, it saved me some time Googling things.

There’s a reason why several years ago Japan was ranked the fourth most lying nation in the world. The world doesn’t buy Japan’s lies anymore, not even the IOC.

This was an informal survey done by a TV SHOW.

Buwa Ha Ha.  NTV variety show that came up with such ranking only by directly questioning people on the street “ Do you often lie?”  What do you expect in such ranking by asking liars? Isn’t it world-widely well known fact that South Korea is the major-power as Lying Nation as pointed out by Korean scholars in “Anti-Japan Tribalism”?

For 6 years, the IHO requested Japan to meet with Korea and discuss the renaming of the Sea of Japan. For 6 years, Japan ignored IHO’s request. So the IHO gave Japan an ultimatum - meet Korea and discuss a name change for the Sea of Japan by 2020, otherwise it will be nameless.

Regret I didn't get to read that, but I didn't need to, because I always felt and discerned the lies. See, a good conman first steals your trust by deception, and the rest is a breeze.

The best conmen are those who believe in their own lies, and Japan, with a lying leadership, that falsifies facts and willfully miseducates its citizenry, thereby falsifying the citizenry's collective consciousness, has made it easy to recruit it ( the citizenry) to propagate the lies and evil whenever necessary. And, because they believe, are ready to die in defense of the same.

Japan has been asking South Korea for export information for 3 years. Despite being the only country in Asia to be on the preferential list, South Korea chose to ignore that request.

Keep holding onto that piece of fib.

There’s a reason why several years ago Japan was ranked the fourth most lying nation in the world. The world doesn’t buy Japan’s lies anymore, not even the IOC.

And for the sake of your argument, if you want to go down that route of defending Japan’s actions, let me give you a parallel example of what civilized governments/international bodies do.

Compare that to Japan’s actions, a no warning unilateral export restriction. Civilized NOT!

-6 ( +6 / -12 )

Japan has been asking South Korea for export information for 3 years. Despite being the only country in Asia to be on the preferential list, South Korea chose to ignore that request.

If Japan's removal was meant as retaliation for the SK court ruling, why then has South Korea failed to present the requested information and simply get back on the White list?

Why has South Korea done everything except provide the requested information?

10 ( +15 / -5 )

Chip StarToday  05:32 pm JST

Japan is not linking anything with its export administration. If Japan puts SK back on its whitelist in exchange for SK reversing its decision on GOSMIA, it would prove you're right though.

Why did Jaoan remove SK from the whitelist? Because the South Korean court ruling requiring Japanese firms to pay compensation to those they used as slave labor. That is linking the whitelist to a SK court decision.

Weren't you updated? SK was not cooperative at all and ignored Japan's several requests to hold high-level meetings for info-exchange over sensitive materials for 3.5 years only to leave ridiculous excuse. at least as long as 3.0 years ahead of SK's top court verdict.

11 ( +16 / -5 )

It's basically the same with SK still enjoying the "developing Country" status in WTO. Try to speak with your average South Korean person, and they will speak proudly about how their Country is a very modern and advanced developed Country. They basically don't even know they still enjoy the benefits of developing country status. The US is trying to correct also that:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bloomberg.com/amp/news/articles/2019-10-20/s-korea-to-discuss-developing-nation-status-with-u-s-yonhap

SK wants everything at the same time: being considered developed despite enjoying developing Country benefits, being considered politically "West" on the global stage, despite flirting openly with China challenging security deals wanted by the US.

11 ( +17 / -6 )

@Cogito ergo sum: the point here is that some SK "supporters" are denying the US is pushing SK into renewing GSOMIA, despite the news is everywhere, but you never saw so far an explicit pressure by the US into asking to Japan to remove its export limits to SK. It's obvious that America is treating security problems separately from trade issues, while SK replies overlapping them. SK can decide what wants to do, but it's also true that all her hostility towards Japan and indirectly the US is out of place currently, especially with a more assertive China and Russia. What SK isn't able to see is that the pax Americana, that included Japanese investments and ODA for decades in SK, is what let SK to become the Country that it is so proud to be today. But now that Chinese market and money look more attractive than Japanese/American influence in the Country, SK is increasingly showing hostility to Japan and indirectly to the US, exploiting the same old WWII issues. I am the first person to be often critical about American foreign policy, but this is more related to stuff happened in other areas, like Middle East. I am starting to see the benefits that some years ago I wasn't able to see given by pax americana for some Countries. I am not saying absolutely America is always right and I am critical of the fact that it can't accept a more multipolar world, but some Countries can't be so double faces, they must choose to be clearly closer to China or America. I think SK is acting like a pampered kid that wants to keep her status of rich and modern "Western" Country on the global stage, at the same time ruining American strategy in East Asia to appeal China. This is a bit too much.

-11 ( +6 / -17 )

@Alex80

With the promiscuity ( keep focus) of todays globalisation, countries are totally intertwined in matters economy, military etc.True, the US is the anchor of this troika with it's own wider objectives of hegemony and preservation of pax-americana. It there fore realizes the importance of maintaining this alliance intact.and will do what it takes to keep it. That doesn't limit SK or Japan iin making new friends or severing the same, but , it goes without saying the world is a better place with cooperation instead of senseless dichotomies.

I'm sure both SK and Jpn know what's is good for themselves individually and collectively, and reason will triumph, either they prosper together or hang separately ( own nooses). Both are intelligent they'll act right. It's the WORST time for one to exhibit bravado.

1 ( +7 / -6 )

@Cogito ergo sum: but indeed SK can do whatever it wants, it's not like the US will nuke it if it doesn't accept to renew GSOMIA or SMA at American conditions. It's obvious SK will take a new way probably.

13 ( +18 / -5 )

I expect ANY sovereign country including and not limited to SK to exercise its full sovereignty ( unilaterally unless its a colony/ vassal state. SK is not ) in any facet issues arises. In this case SK isn't and will not be limited to Japan's interest and vice versa. Only then can they exercise accommodation, the middle way or the highway.

-13 ( +5 / -18 )

In the past the US would have already pressured Japan into paying more to SK, as usual (see the 2015 deal) but apparently this time is different, and Trump won't accept anything Moon administration wants. People who say "but America doesn't care about GSOMIA" forgot that America wanted it in the first place. It's part of American strategy on East Asia. Japan can't decide to make any military deal without America, it's obvious, but here Korean nationalists deny that this deal was the result of the earlier American administration's policy. It will be interesting to see what will happen in the close future.

14 ( +19 / -5 )

@Samit Basu: Did you read the article that I linked at least? Because you look in complete denial. SK is challenging the American order in North East Asia.

Even if SK's top court verdicts over wartime labor cases reversed

The verdict is final. No more appeal possible.

And yet, None of SK's proposals so far, ( i.e 1+1, 1+1+a, and the latest voluntary donation by another Moon) follows that verdict exactly, which implies the verdict itself could be technically ignored even within SK's jurisdiction. What a babo

16 ( +22 / -6 )

@Tom Doley

you simply don't share military information with a bully that accuses you of not being trustworthy.

Indeed, this is why Korea is terminating the GSOMIA.

95% of information flow is from Korea to Japan, yet Japan backstabbed, so this is why Korea is shutting the information pipeline off.

-17 ( +7 / -24 )

Anyone with a half a brain will tell you that you simply don't share military information with a bully that accuses you of not being trustworthy. Good on South Korea to stand up against the hypocrites.

Kono has repeatedly asked South Korea to reconsider its decision to terminate the accord, saying that it would otherwise lead to a "misleading signal" to other countries in the region.

Another tatamae. Trying to give a typical fake facade to the outside world.

-16 ( +6 / -22 )

@showchinmono

Even if SK's top court verdicts over wartime labor cases reversed

The verdict is final. No more appeal possible.

SK wouldn't get upgraded to white country status because Japan's export admin has got nothing to do with it.

Japan's export control has nothing to do with "it" and everything to do with the verdict.

The only way is that SK itself behaves in trustworthy manner and timely cooperate with Japan in its inquiries.

The only way is to replace Abe administration.

@OssanJapan

The United States is not happy that South Korea wants to disrupt the US-JPN-SK strategic allliance.

The US actually gave up on GSOMIA and is in Korea to talk about more urgent matters, such as SMA and the US-Korea mutual defense treaty text revision, and the expansion of the UN Command in Korea.

South Korea has unilaterally turned a Historical issue into an Economic one

Well, it was Abe san who turned the forced laborer damages verdict into export control in retaliation. Have you forgotten?

@Alex80

Some people who support SK decision think this is really something between SK and Japan only

It is the matter between Korea and Japan only. The US itself remains unaffected, although they do have to cut off providing radar feed to Japan under the terms of US-Korea GSOMIA after November 23rd.

@Hillclimber

Japan is not determined to keep GSOMIA

Surely it is.

-15 ( +8 / -23 )

13 ( +22 / -9 )

Good luck South Korea. Time to start learning a dialect from the North, I’d say.

13 ( +21 / -8 )

Dear S. Korea

You overplayed your cards. You expected Japan to give in like they always do. You expected America to pressure Japan like they always do. A easy walk which Koreans have become use too with an ever increasing list of demands and expectations from Japan. A Korean dreams it tonight and tomorrow Japan has to appease their Insanity.

They demand apologies which later they don't recognize or say it never happened.

They demand compensation which later they say it doesn't cover any labor workers or comfort women, no Korean was covered under the 1965 aggrement and huge payments in the billions which covers No Claims to Korean way of thinking.

14 ( +23 / -9 )

I don't know it. Some people who support SK decision think this is really something between SK and Japan only, their blind vision is incredible. Seriously, this is something mainly between SK and the US. Read this article:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.voanews.com/east-asia-pacific/us-south-korea-alliance-under-pressure-deadlines-military-pacts-approach%3famp

It's not even only about GSOMIA, but especially about SMA. SK is deciding her future as an American or a Chinese partner.

15 ( +24 / -9 )

Per the comments in the article below I say you missed the point. Just the opposite of your opinion. The key word "misread" "utterly regrettable" does not mean Japan is determined, just the opposite.

"Japan's top government spokesman Yoshihide Suga said it is "unacceptable" as the issues of export controls and the intelligence-sharing pact should not be linked. Suga said at a press conference that Seoul has "misread" the current regional security environment, and the termination of the pact is "utterly regrettable."

However with all the above said, it still doesn't get to the root troublemaker and that clearly is the MOON. IF SK gets rid of the Moon, then relations will get back to where they were before his administration on its way to progress.

Well walking in demanding is not negotiating. Respect on both sides would go along way, ahem, Shinzo-kun and company.

For Moon admin and many of Anti-Japan tribes, it's a dream to unify the peninsula in red and Japan is an eternal enemy. Impossible fundamentally to cooperate with each other aganst NK. Anyone checked recent survey in SK which showed, " If war breaks out between Japan and NK, 46% SKreans support NK, 15% support Japan and the rest is either no-answer or don't know".

South Korea has unilaterally turned a Historical issue into an Economic one and by ending GSOMIA, a Security issue. If South Korea want to be put back on Japan's Whitelist, all they have to do is provide the export nformation that Japan has been requesting for 3 years. Why is that so difficult?

Japan has done nothing to disrupt US interests. South Korea has, and they will pay for it if they continue.

I've always wondered why some people find it odd that SK " turn historical issues to economic ones and on to security " . as if they should'nt be. They are singularly or collectively inherently pertinent to any country's relations with self or neighbors. One can and does affect the others in a myriad ways and SK is justified, if it sees it fit, to relate and raise them individually or collectively.

As for the summit, I think it's good for them to have an all out, no-holds- barred round table discussions on all the issues and immediately invest on what's workable, and, pursue the sticking ones in subsequent meetings.

The United States is not happy that South Korea wants to disrupt the US-JPN-SK strategic allliance. If South Korea is incapable of stopping this behavior at the end of the day the U.S. will consider South Korea not worth protecting. Are these people in the above photo that short sighted?

Even if SK's top court verdicts over wartime labor cases reversed, SK wouldn't get upgraded to white country status because Japan's export admin has got nothing to do with it. The only way is that SK itself behaves in trustworthy manner and timely cooperate with Japan in its inquiries.

Where is the SK heading for? Would they like to be swallowed by NK? They might miss the poor old days when Joseon Dynasty was completely controlled by Qing Dynasty as a client state. Why don't Japan and the USA let SK be?

When asked about Seoul's stance on Monday, Japan's top government spokesman Yoshihide Suga said it is "unacceptable" as the issues of export controls and the intelligence-sharing pact should not be linked.

If it's okay for Jaian to link judicial decisions in South Korea with export controls, why isn't it okay for Soyth Korea to link intelligence-sharing with export controls?

Japan is not linking anything with its export administration. If Japan puts SK back on its whitelist in exchange for SK reversing its decision on GOSMIA, it would prove you're right though.

Ending the agreement weakens security in the region. Japan is trying to prevent that and South Korea is determined to shoot themselves in the foot. Support South Korea's decision all you want, it doesn't make what they are doing a smart choice.

You don't have to be a 'rightist' to know that a tripod works better with all three legs intact.

Go Japan, we stand with you.

By "we," I hope you mean your ilk that can't accept reality.

The Japanese government has been more than professional and rational than their South Korean counterparts in their dealings. The Japanese government dealt with facts, while the South Korean government and their blind supporters around the world deal in pure emotion and misrepresentation of facts.

Hahaha! This is comedy gold. Accuse the other side of what Japan is doing. This is exactly what Donny and Trumpophiles do. Gaslight much?

The rightists have already started their down-vote campaign. It's comical and telling that they have no substantive replies to offer.

Yep. It's that seering cognitive dissonance on display.

The greatest Moon has already indicated their decision to discontinue GSOMIA, and his people support it, no matter any reason behind it. SK is an independent and matured country and their decision must be respected most.

Good luck SK.

More Japanese "logic" on display.

Kono is expected to demand that South Korea retract its decision not to renew the General Security of Military Information Agreement, or GSOMIA, during the bilateral meeting, according to the source at the Japanese Defense Ministry.

"Demand?" not a great plan if you expect people to cooperate with you!

-12 ( +15 / -27 )

The fact that Japan is determined to keep the GSOMIA while Korea is determined to end it shows that the GSOMIA is of far more importance to Japan than it is to Korea.
