Hirai who Suga chose as "Digital transformation minister" is former ”leader” of ”LDP Internet supporters" group who disguise general public to mislead public opinion advantageously and to slander or exclude criticism to Govt.

Hirai himself has "experience" that insulted lawmaker of opposition party anonymously.

Even with the lead up time of a year, expect zero integration inter-agency, even with the other "efforts" to cut red tape .

A year later: The various bureaucratic forms have been put online, which much be downloaded from pdf and stamped, scanned, faxed or otherwise printed and sent to the appropriate ministry in physical form.

After which the versions are compared as a group of 5 or 6 bureaucrats hiss and sigh over a space on a line or an entry which is not on their very limited database of prescribed answers.

Then they decide to mail a form for a request for clarification.

Payment possible by IC card payment at a convenience store, but none of those foreign online payment systems like Paypal .

After faxing the appropriate people and briefing their drivers to appraise them of the forthcoming meeting to decide the next meeting, after getting their exorbitant pay checks most members of the group decided to hold a new meeting that will discuss when a new meeting will be held. The result will be posted on paper with several Hanko , then put in several envelopes delivered in 2 to 5 days, with a follow up fax. The group has decided they have no idea and have come to no conclusion. But as they are being paid next year they might hint they have no idea.

Suga daddy, digitalize the crap out of Japan. It's high time!

Better late than never. At least it's a step in the right direction.

Asked how long it would take to set it up, Hirai said:

"I think the prime minister will give us specific instructions."

I think. Not very reassuring is it?

Awesome! Should be up and running by 2030 then!

They will buy fax machines with WIFI.

I only believe when I see the fax machines away for good.

Trying to cut the bureaucracy only to create another ministry? Gimme a break. Soumusho is in charge of telecom, just start another section inside the existing ministry. Creating another silo is not going to streamline anything. Geezus...

How about Inforcing a retirement age? Think that might help. Inforcing anything on bueuracrats not going to happen.

Why not just cut the red tape instead of trying to make it digital.

They should get Nintendo on it

I see it now, access your registration via a Switch app. While you are only joking (I hope) I'm sure they couldn't do any worse than what is currently in operation.

Just as long as the system is secure enough to keep out unfriendly actors from Russia and China, then that is a step in the right direction.

Good to see the Japanese government finally trying to enter the 21st century.
