It’s all ramping up. Hold onto your hats good people!

The majority of Hong Kong residents want the security law, because of the fear of those rioting and causing a disruption to their daily lives. It is not stifling free speech or the right to peaceful protest. So what is wrong in having a security law that targets, subversion, terrorism and foreign interference, isn't that what all countries would wish for. laws,https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hong_Kong_Basic_Law_Article_23

Soon it will escalate from 'seriously concerned' to 'very seriously concerned' and maybe 'Okay, now we're really, really concerned.'

I had had hopes that Hong Kong would suck the mainland into it. Now it seems the reverse is true.

no doubt the oyajis will give it 'consideration'

And you got that "majority" number from ?

Have you looked at the last election results ? 80% of the seats became pro democracy.

Huh? Merchants of Doubt present again. Are you a paid quisling for the CCP or are you just that easily manipulated for free?

@sf2k I don’t know, I’ve been having a hard time figuring that out myself.

But yeah, I guess I should’ve expected the naysayers to bash the fact that the legislature only made a statement, rather than something stronger. Well to those people, let me ask you this. Do you want Japan to risk war with China over Hong Kong? Because those are the only two real choices that they have. Either make strong statements condemning this, or risk provoking a war with China. Unless anyone wants to stay completely out of it, which I don’t see happening.

It is time that China has to pay its bill for all the bad things they did and still doing to the world.

(Tibet, Tianmen, Corona Virus, Now Hongkong...)

But nobody in the world have the balls to do anything, because of all the businesses and money that comes from China.

But I hope that someday, China will be taken in charge.

Free Tibet!

Free Hongkong!

Act more, talk less.

Be like the US, take legal/political/economic action against China.

Of course, Shinzo Abe won't do it because Keidanren has almost all of their assets in Japan. The Japanese oyajis don't want to anger Xi Jinping.

They got the wrong person! Japan should tell Donald Trump STOP saupporting the riots in Hong Kong as a blackmail or extortion at China, using the riot as a bargaining chip in "Trade War" is despicable!

American bnusiness has a huge fortune in Hong Kong, if Trump hurts China or Hong Kong, Beijiang will do "Retaliation" in response to that 1300+ American business in HK! Thats nothing good for anybody!

People, that's you me my neighbors really don't need a "law" don't need authorities to watch me 24/7 it's a bizarre situation when governments deem you a subversive by simply living your life? But I might need time in a re-education camp to be re-educationed good luck with my organs, I have porposusly poisened them to spite the government.

Live in japan for a while, it is the same as China. Just we have geisha, anime and Sakura. Oops Sakura Tokyo viewing party was cancelled.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

@Good luck to you

Please man...You are the first guy ever who said Japan is the same like China.

Are you sure that it is Japan, where you are living?

Maybe you check your Globe or Map at home.

Your kidding. They are arresting children. It's not about security it's about control. If there are any Hong kongese that support it, it is a very small minority.

For Democracy and the law to jail all brick and bomb throwers. No contradictions.

If Japan was actually "concerned" they'd stop investing in this pariah state.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

How about offering the most economically savvy population in the world a home in Japan?

Maybe Japan is not that concerned...

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Hong Kong is Chinese territory, period. Japan needs to keep your distance to the western hysteria. They don't and can't coexist with Asia, and that includes Japan, if you don't have a short memory

HK is no longer a part of the UK.

It's now a part of China .

PM Shinzo Abe must instead focus solidly on defending the most Japanese- friendly people in the world in TW, ROC.

Maybe he should also express some concern on what is happening in da-kine MN , USA !

When the looting starts, the shooting starts. Minnesota or Hong Kong. Need the law to keep order. I’m referring to the rioters and not any peaceful protesters.

I used to take a lot of history for granted. The return of Hong Kong to China seemed a simple matter of returning China its land to me. What a fool I was! The U.K. obtained control of Hong Kong through colonization, war and unfair treaties, but when the territory was returned to China so were THE PEOPLE, as if they are mere property to be given back and their likely wish to remain with the U.K. or be independent means nothing. Not only China, but all nations of the world need to be made to think differently. We are government property only as long we allow ourselves to be and we need to stop allowing it. I say again, its not only China. But China needs to booted out of there.

The 五毛 are doing a fantastic job.

Laws from 50 yrs ago aren't the same laws as today. They'd never be allowed, regardless of the govt. Two systems, one country was never going to be followed. Every one knew that. We'd just hoped it would be 30 yrs before significant changes were made. The hope was that mainland Chinese would see the prosperity in Hong Kong and push the CCP to transform into a similar system of govt. Instead, they've gone the other way and the Chinese people all got in line, millions by force, and let their govt become a dictatorship.

The UK returned a forcibly leased property to the rightful owner country. At the time, there was nothing they should have done differently. The UK didn't have much choice.

I think most people here would agree, given a choice, the people of Hong Kong would choose to be part of the UK rather than part of China. No question.

China is destroying Hong Kong. Thats what China does. Destroy things.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Is China doin to HK what Trump is doin to the USA?

Which is worst?

Japan should be concerned to what is happening in HK and the widespread riots in America now!

0 ( +1 / -1 )

It’s always darkest before dawn. I’m hoping the Chinese Communist Party have better dreams in mind than destroy anyone who doesn’t agree with them. One way or other the pendulum will go back. We’re behind you, Hong Kong and all oppressed. Somehow I believe in miracles..
