He apologized. He is 83 years old. Women do talk more than men...generally speaking. What's the problem?

@Desert Tortoise

You made a statement that "Mori is the logical "Fall Guy" for cancelling the Olympics! Old and Done!"

LOL! You sound incoherent! Reading and understanding logic is your friend!

I am saying your statement is nothing more than a conspiracy theory not supported by any fact. In fact it is probably an outright lie. Prove me wrong with verifiable facts from reputable sources.

How can an opinion be an outright lie? What is the conspiracy? HAHA!

Reading is fundamental!

Can you enlighten us by what you mean is "fact free conspiracy theories"?

"She might be a woman and obviously quite media-savvy but otherwise she's just another aging right-wing nationalist who had her chance to change Japanese politics in the 2017 election but blew it."

yes, 2017. but. my point is that we have to start somewhere.

After that debacle I don't think we'll be starting with her. She's a conservative and if the 2017 election is anything to go by she won't have anything to do with more centrist or left-leaning politicians. So even if she can get a major political movement going nationwide she'll be offering a choice between well-entrenched LDP incumbents and candidates who really aren't all that different from them. If I were a conservative who had been voting for the local LDP gauleiter all my life I wouldn't see much point in switching, personally.

Careful with words; ”aging right-wing nationalist” doesn’t mean she is the same as an aging Japanese man,

I did note that she's definitely not a man.

....sexist, racist, ultranationalist, grandson/son/whatever of a former Japanese PM/politician, who can’t speak a word of English = Japan vs the rest of the world / Japanese vs gaijin mentality. Koike isn’t any of these things so... good enough for me. Of these two ( a kusojiji/oyaji and a conservative woman ), I’d prefer the latter.

Judging by her adherence to causes such as Yasukuni Shrine visits and historical textbook "reform" I'd guess that even if she isn't a 3rd generation misogynist dinosaur herself it would hardly matter if she became prime minister because she would be letting those kinds of people call all the shots.

Excellent - please cancel the Olympics and blame Mori for having to do so... he's old enough to be a scapegoat, (even though he's right in what he said), but please... please, Cancel these dreadfully timed Olympics before a disaster befalls upon us all.

why Japan can't get some younger iconic people to do this job

Koike says Olympics facing 'major issue' after Mori's sexist remarks

What? You? Suga? Aso? Let's get to the real issues here.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Koike is smart. She is trying to put the whole Olympics failure and cancelation on him. She saw an easy out and went for it.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Yuriko, can the Olympics now, whether or not you blame Mori is up to you but many, many people will thank you for it.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

February 22nd will be the last chance for " a big Olympic announcement" . If not they will be on!

Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga said he didn't have the authority to demand Mori's resignation, the Jiji news agency reported

So who does?

People, objects and institutions have problems. Periodical publications have issues.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

I see Japan Inc. is taking a playbook out of the trump playbook by using a "Culture War " to distract from the real issue of public safety and the 2020 Olympics! The Myanmar junta did the same thing!

Mori is trying to find an excuse to step down from a sinking ship! Every other politician with a career ahead of them still pushing the Olympics are looking for a way to save face!

Mori is the logical "Fall Guy" for cancelling the Olympics! Old and Done!

There's the way out of holding the games, blame old Mori, meanwhile let's dig up comments made by koike in the past

A "major issue"

How “major” does the issue have to be before Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike climbs down off the fence and calls to Yoshiro Mori to stand down/or compelled removal? ......

The "major issue" is right in from of Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike nose.

"This is the reality of what women in Japan are facing every day. Old guys with outdated mindsets continue to hold power and are making decisions," said a female staffer at the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee

"Unfortunately in this country, social pressure prohibits women from speaking out about inequality - which makes yesterday's sexism row even more significant for Japan."

"I felt anger for the first time in a while," pro soccer player Shiho Shimoyamada said in a tweet.

"It's absolutely meaningless to retract remarks already out in the open. Unless you actually acknowledge prejudice and take steps against it, the same thing will just happen again".

Signing a deal with the IOC, as host city, sponsor, manager or employee involves selling your soul, signing with blood and forgo all scrupules and integrity. But the pay is good

I’ve said this before. Koike Yuriko, while far from being perfect, could be the beginning of a much needed change that needs to happen in the world of Japanese politics and eventually in Japan.

She might be a woman and obviously quite media-savvy but otherwise she's just another aging right-wing nationalist who had her chance to change Japanese politics in the 2017 election but blew it.

Obviously for bigger and much more far reaching issues which pose a risk to human life and health the Olympics should not occur at all.

What Mori said is stupid and shows how disconnected he is from reality but his stupidity would not be enought to threaten the games (and should not).

I am not surprised Koike did not ask him to stand down. She wants the Olympics so badly she would do nearly anything to ensure they go on and also it reflects the true power structure in Japan.

Koike San is settling a personal score here. She and Mori San can not stay in the same room. They have been going at each other for many years.

Maybe she talks too much ?

Mori's apology had settled the issue

Very easy. Topic finish!

a fake apology doesn’t settle anything.

”finish”? Not so fast. we still have a long way to go.

"The mission of the metropolis and the organizing committee is to prepare for a safe and secure Games, and we are facing a major issue," Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike said.

This is correct.

"I myself was struck speechless by his comments, which should not have been made."

I would think there are more serious issues than just some old fool’s gaff. He’s 83 and couldn’t even run to the toilet better less run an Olympic Games. Who was the fool that appointed him in the first place?

3 ( +4 / -1 )

He seems like someone fun to chat to in a Ramen shop.

Koike says Olympics facing 'major issue' after Mori's sexist remarks

From day one, there has just been issue, after issue, after issue with the Tokyo Olympics, and now this.

The most cursed games in modern history.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

He might resign and walk away..but, He doesn't have to..Apology is not enough for this matter..

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Mori's apology had settled the issue

Very easy. Topic finish!

I guess they have more problems with the Olympics than just a few stupid words from a 81 year old man.
