Abe's constitutional reform push facing questions from LDP members

While this is good news to hear that there are cracks in the LPD's support for a constitutional change, I fear this might just be posturing by these two leaders to try and garner support. I hope that is not the case, but I really do not trust Ishiba. Kishida, I have more respect for, but as soon as you say they are both thinking of making a run at the LDP presidency, then you have to take things with a grain of salt.

Looks like Abes loosing his head on this issue! Im Surprised that foreign minister Fumio Kishida (a member of Nippon Kaigi) does not support an amendment of war renouncing Article 9! Maybe LDP is conspiring against Abes ill tempting visions for Japan? He definetely crossed the line by allowing imperial learning material and Hitlers biography to be allowed usage at schools on their own basics without educational guidelines!

Abe`s final days may have been counted, even before surpassing Koziumi on the longevity by Prime Minister;)

Abe calls on the rest of the LDP to support the changes so he'll have someone to shove under the bus when crap hits the fan. Others see this and pre-shoves Abe under the bus, just in case.

Abe's "Macron's victory is a mandate for EU" comment was meant directly to bolster what will be his claim that an election victory for Abe in the near future will be a "mandate for Constitutional reform" despite a CLEAR majority being against it. The major difference being you cannot vote directly for the head of state in Japan, but for local representatives, often with no choice but the LDP, and so a vote for that local member -- even if they oppose said reform, means that Abe will take the victory as mandate for change.

Id est., these cracks in support don't mean a thing as long as Abe is in power, which will be as long as he wants since the opposition can't get its act together and the sheeple can't either (also with a lack of proper representation in rural areas). The opposition needs to seize on this issue and Abe's personal desire to take Japan back to pre-annihilation days and see a repeat its past... but they won't.

The aging county bumpkins have an over-abundance of representation, surely? The LDP probably look back on what Britain was like before the 1832 Great Reform Act and think that's what to aim for in Japan.

@Aly Rustom ... Thanks for sharing the link. Everything that Abe wants to do is exactly what Nippon Kaigi wants. We are seeing the rise of nationalism and authoritarianism around the world - in the UK, US, Turkey, France, Russia, Philippines, and many other countries. And we are seeing it in Japan. But here it is being done more subtly. The last time this happened, we had WW2.

I wonder if this is the kind of "debate" Abe had in mind?

At least this time round there isn't a caste of psychotic army officers going around shooting or hacking up anyone they don't like. Not yet, anyway.
