Ugh, another election. Again noisy vans. Again loudspeaker people at the stations. What a waste of time and money for something that changes absolutely nothing. So tired of it.

Sales of white gloves will soar in July.
It would be novel if one of the speakers had a coherent strategy and policy, other than shouting out thank you all the time.

Instead of shouting, they should just all hold debates

The campaign period is mercifully short. The TV news is already full of drivel about the US election which is over a year away. As I don't live in the US and don't have a vote I can't see why the TV news spends so much time covering it.

How many times has Abe stressed political stability as a key reason to vote for LDP? We've had Abe in power for almost 7 consecutive years. Please don't stress the need for more political stability Abe! You've enjoyed political stability for far too long. Japan needs democratic variation, cross political agreements etc. Not LDP, which is filled with lousy retirees who long for a pre-WW2 Japan!
I guess this is what you get when you always vote for LDP, a single-party state! What will you do when LDP suddenly decides to ban demonstrations because of the need for political stability?

Because you vote for a Japanese PM who essentially reports to the US. After over 70 years, Japan is essentially under US occupation!

Is the public really all that interested? If not, why bother trying to talk about the Constitution? Moreover the people who elected candidates from that party he's referring to must have known what their position on it was, so Abe can hardly complain if they're doing their jobs and representing voters' opinions. I doubt if even many LDP voters are all that bothered, as their main reasons for voting LDP seem to be that it's preferable to the alternatives, because they always have and because the local Diet member is good at bringing home a big helpful of the pork barrel to keep all the zombie businesses on life support.

Headline focused on Constitutional revision. Story doesn’t go into that topic very much. Headline should be, “Abe has upper house race in sight”

Earlier in the month, Finance Minister Taro Aso refused to receive a report by a panel of experts which contained an estimate that the average retired couple would face a shortfall of 20 million yen under the current pension system if they live to be 95 years old. The panel was set up under the Financial Services Agency, which Aso oversees.
He essentially rejected his own report.
Agreed.

But of course. Given a choice between a pleasant fantasy and an ugly truth that makes the government look bad, people like Aso and Abe will go for fantasy every time.

I have set the date in my diary - and will vote. Abenomics was a farce. The constitutional amendments are not necessary. The pension system was to be fixed by the consumption tax - but the 8% we have now has not improved it - nor would 10%.
