More pointless Olympic talk. Experts reckon this crisis will last at least a year. The Spanish flu pandemic lasted two years.

Hey Boris, that $350 million a week being saved from Brexit and put into the NHS would be really handy right now.....
Akie
Abe is wrong again. Instead of to join China and South Korea to form a golden triangle of northeast asian emergency association to fight the virus, Abe reached out to UK for cooperation. Does he know that UK is half globe away ?

Hilarious that it's still hasn't sunk in yet for these clueless louts that there can't be any olympics given the state of the planet. But seeing the state of the country and how decision making happens at snail pace, can't say I'm shocked.

Does Abe know that the UK is being heavily criticized (domestically and abroad) for it's approach for dealing with this? The UK is the only country not taking the same measures as other countries in Western European. Dismaying to see these two muppets engaged in how to proceed....
Japan should discuss effective measures with just about any country other than the UK at this time.
Now I wonder who the WHO was talking about then they said "you know who you are" in response to being asked last week which countries weren't taking the steps they should be.
I'm not overly concerned about this virus as I'm aware that some social distancing and frequent hand washing should suffice and is pretty much all we as individuals can do now but this 'head in the sand' stuff is just foolish and irresponsible at this time from some leaders.

This article doesn’t mention Johnson’s approach to combating the virus through Hers Immunity.

Glad the photo is old... we shouldn't be shaking hands

Irony?

I would prefer the so-called prime minister of Japan talk with the leaders of Italy, Korea, and China about how they are combating the coronavirus rather than a buffoon who sent the military in to prevent hoarding.
”How did mommy die, daddy?”
”She was shot trying to buy toilet paper.”

Now we're all really screwed then.

@Japanoob - Angela Merkel has said around 70% of the German population will become infected with Coronavirus and has essentially told them they'll have to cope with it. Boris Johnson, acting on advice/instruction of among the finest medical and scientific minds available, has said the same thing but added that the UK will try & make it work to their advantage by creating an environment for herd immunity to prevent an even greater catastrophe later in the year when, as all studies indicate, the virus will return.
I'm no fan of Boris Johnson but the way this situation is being used by certain sections of the UK society to score cheap political points is truly nauseating.

The UK government has given up. They just resorts to the Darwin law and let people die off. They even admitted it.
Japan needs to put UK on the list of no entry ASAP

I agree Akie, but if he works with them then he can't blame them later to rile of nationalism during election time. Without Abe's boogeymen, he can't get old folks to vote for him.

Abe san was probably infatuated by the blonde hair lol

Abe and Boris' minds seem to fit together.
Have you seen the announcement of welfare by Abe's countermeasures?
Nowadays, other diseases are overwhelming, so unnecessary medical examinations cannot add to the medical confusion.
Therefore, when the symptoms and cases are clear, He said he would.
How wonderful is it?
Mortality is high for older people, so it is a good way to reduce numbers without evidence.
The countermeasures announced by Boris are said to quarantine and protect the elderly in England and fight the virus.
Because the virus is fatal to the elderly only.
However, the infection rate varies according to social activity regardless of age. So what if the virus does not go away from social activities? Should I just be trapped and die?
And ,where are you going to contain it? Is there a guarantee that you won't be contagious if you have a family?
People are not living forever.
This is a good way to legally remove the elderly from society.
Both countries are moving in a good direction that is not affected by the virus.

work with Johnson?!!
hahahahahhahaha
whatever next?!!
what a joke?!!

@ Giant
None of the countries taking hard measures are saying this will reduce the number of cases.
The objective is to flattent the epidemic pic to be able to provide health care to the maximum.
UK has one of the lowest hospital bed number per inhabitant (2.5/1,000 actually). They cannot handle millions of patients at the same time.
Boris is playing a very crazy gambling game.
My bet is that he will be in history books and not in a nice way.

Shaking hands? Really?
Moderator: It is a file photo from last year.

The UK and Japan takes the same approach in dealing with the coronavirus epdiemic, because they are both island countries and are facing the same aging problem. Because the fatality rate by the coronavirus increases exponentially with age, their approach is to make the entire island an incubator by doing nothing, just letting aged people to die to fundamentally change the age structure of the population, eventually to boost and rejuvenate the economy by the nature.

US have laws, that hold companies liable for disease like the Coronavirus awarding damages to innocent victims

Japan hasn't had a Wuhan, Daegu, or Lombardy. So why should he follow their extreme measures? We are already seeing some panic-buying. Abe taking unnecessary extreme measures would just make things worse.
