Couldn't we be defended by Chinese troops? I bet they would do it for much less than the US!

It is time for Japan to join with China, which is rising. The US seems to be going crazy, and is falling.

I want to believe this is a joke. I certainly had a good laugh this morning! lol

I seriously doubt we will have another 4 years of Trump. When he got elected many people said this guy is going to wreck the country. Guess what? The United States and the entire World needs a person fit for the position of POTUS. China, Russia, North Korea have done nothing but to take full advantage of the fact that we have a moron in the White House. Correcting, stabilizing and hardening our global alliances is a top priority along with ending the domestic divisiveness.

Japan needs to pay its' fair share or the US should pull out. When China takes parts of the Ryukyu chain islands they state are historically theirs, don't call the US for help. China is waiting for this day whether it's 10 or 50 years.

Trump’s transactional way of thinking might be fine for hotels or golf courses, but has no place in the massively more complex world of international relations.

On a strategic level the US benefits more than anyone else from having bases in Japan, but all he can think about is extracting every last red cent over some imaginary “deal”.

Trump is a danger not just to Japan, but to the whole world.

Joining with China doesn’t mean becoming a communist state. It means having a friendly neighbor who doesn’t commit war crimes, invade, regime change, arms deal...well you know...can go on for hours.

china ain’t perfect. Just lesser the evil

WWII ended 75 years ago. Why is the U.S. still in Japan? The same can be asked of South Korea and Germany.

These countries have recovered from the war ravages of WWII and the Korean Conflict. It's time they defended themselves.

Trump is right. If U.S. forces are to remain in these countries, they have to pay more. The alternative is to grow their own military and defend themselves.

Most asian countries including China,Russia and South Korea does welcome an independent Japan who no longer needs US military protection! That military presence is very disturbing and obstructing east asian people who were already has very much common ideology and trading! But Japan must suppresings those "Japanese militaristic nationalists" and "History deniers" who glorifies wartime and imperial atrocities japan has done! It is up to Japan to make up her mind to join the east asian neighbours living as a respectful member or keep stubborning to live under Mafia style protection from US!

Why Japan always should be with somebody, U.S or China? Instead Japan should have independent foreign policy, pursue its own inrerests.

Pull out, go home. Find another cashing machine.

When China takes parts of the Ryukyu chain islands they state are historically theirs, don't call the US for help

Don't worry, Japan pretty capable to defend itself. Even Vietnam which has more serious problems with China then Japan is sure it can defenf itself without U.S. bases on its soil.

Well, Trump said he would alienate the US's allies, and he kept his promise.

He turned his back on the Kurds, Europe, Japan and probably more.

BertieWooster and gokai_wo_maneku: unless you were being serious, I applaud you for your sense of humour.

Japan could properly defend itself though if it wanted to...

I know you're joking, right?

Well, Trump said he would alienate the US's allies, and he kept his promise.

But he wouldn't do it to Japan or South Korea or Asia, Israel, the Saudis, Valenzuela for sure.

The only countries that constantly whine about Japanese militaristic nationalism are China and South Korea. Only they use WWII as a diplomatic and poltical tool against Japan. Although China uses it as a precision weapon, South Korea has raised it to the level of a mental disorder.

Don’t worry. Mark my words, there is no way he can be re-elected.

if he is, new world order. Throw America away.

I hope Trump gets reelected just for the comedic value. My father used to say that we need a good war every once in a while to thin out the population.

Trump's re-election is now bigly bogged down in the fantasy realm of the hypothetical, but back in the real world it's time for the Japanese to dump the US bases and invest their money in peaceful neutrality.

Abe desperately wants to believe Trump is his BFF. I bet he'd love to set up a ramp when he next sees Trump, just so that he can get a chance to hold his hand.

Just wait. When it soon becomes clear that Biden will be the next POTUS, Abe will be rushing off, virus or no virus, to shake his hand even before the elections. This guy reeks of desperation and minion-ness.

"I hope Trump gets reelected just for the comedic value."

You really want to watch this car crash of an administration do its thing for 4 more years?

The joke stopped being funny quite a ways back.

Was I joking?

Yes, of course. But I also wanted to point out what a racket (dirty way to make money) "defense" is. Our guys at the top get us all hyped up and scared about "them over there." And "them over there's" guys at the top get them all hyped up and scared about us.

Left to his own, your average person in any country just wants to get on with his life, do his job, fall in love, get married, have good times.

"Defense" is a good racket. It makes A LOT of money for certain people. And that's its real reason for existence.

Who needs enemies when you've got friends like these?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Japan needs to pay its' fair share or the US should pull out.

Japan does pay its fair share, its an alliance, meaning 50/50 shared costs, the $8billion that Trump was proposing just make US troops mercenaries , soldiers for profit.

there is a war already, its called covid19 and Trump the general is losing badly, 120000 lives lost and counting. but hey as long as you're getting a laugh out of it

@oknewshawk-1 ooh, very good point there. Yeah, Hong Kong would be the perfect place to go to see the true extent twitch China is willing to wield influence. Kudos to them to standing up to China and protesting like they are.

Covid19 alone isn't enough?
