Stand strong Hayashi. In the Jinping era, China would do anything to undermine Japan dominance. Dominance from a sophisticated, free, and peaceful standpoint.

The detained man, a senior employee of Japanese pharmaceutical firm Astellas Pharma Inc., was arrested in China last month on suspicion of engaging in espionage. Tokyo has been calling for his early release and the provision of consular access to the Japanese national.

Surely it won't be the last one, just remember that. Japan can enforce Hostage Justice system while China have their own way.

Its very simple, if all Japan wants is peace and stability around it, prosperity for itself and its people. Just exercise its sovereign right, IE, do not repeat/echo everything the American did/ said.

Unlike China, Japan is a democracy. As such the goals of Japan match those of the US, EU, UK, Australia, etc. They do not match those of a totalitarian dictatorship bent on taking regional control. That's the difference between autocracies and democracies. In the former, a country like China gets other nations to do what it wants by buying them out, threatening them with force, deceiving them. In the latter, democratic nations do what they do because they deem it to be the best course for their own nation.

China hasn't been at war since the 1970s and a pretty short one at that. I'm not so sure they will have the tolerance they had in the 50s.

A new favorite tactic of dictatorships seems to be to arrest innocent people and take them hostage. In this case, the ransom is whatever the dictator deems to be more favorable treatment from a democracy.

CCP China still highly depends on capital goods, machines, intermediate goods and materials from mother countries of those foreign companies which CCP forced to 1) set up joint form of operation in China 2) disclose all know-how to be transferred to Chinese counterparts for the price to make profit in Chinese market.

Don't forget Japan's exports to China include great sum of those capital goods/machineries toward their own Japanese companies, factories, located in China.

It heavily hurts Japan if it withdraw itself, yet, in the long run, It is CCP China that would realize the fact it is cutting their own throat by continuing their high-handed behavior.
