The poll found the largest share, 42 percent, picked measures to boost the economic recovery and cope with price rises as the most important issue in the election, with 79.6 percent saying the Kishida government has not taken adequate steps to curb rising living costs.

Despite 80 percent realizing the Emperor has no clothes and Kishida's pronouncements of "protecting people's livelihoods" are totally dissonant with the actual policies of QE basic income for financial institutions and subsidies to Japan Inc. ......the LDP still has the highest support.

Gerrymandered disproportionately weighted voting, paying off local cronies, and one party American supported dominance will do that.

Maybe South Korea passing Japan economically will be a big enough shock to the electorate to make them realize the LDP parasites have got to go.

They have enough "foreign" issues like China and the pandemic to gaslight the electorate for a comfortable victory at least for a few more election cycles.

But the opposition's lack of enthusiasm and the electorate's learned helplessness is the main issue here. They should be banging on every door, fighting tooth and nail for screen time in the media during the worst economic outlook of Japan since WW2, and exposing the rot in the government and LDP. They should be bringing politics to the people and making the youth vote for the first time in generations.

Maybe South Korea passing Japan economically will be a big enough shock to the electorate to make them realize the LDP parasites have got to go.

It has already happened and should be leading the news programs and used as a hammer by the opposition parties to beat the LDP.

Meet 100 people and only 27 of them like you, you have to at some point realise you have an obnoxious personality problem.

Half of those 27 people merely put up with you, most of the others are senile and one or two of them are in on the scam.

It’s not low for the LDP, it’s their highest before any pre election. That tells you everything about the expectations of the LDP by the voting age population.

I wouldn't be proud of anything as low as 27%.

As many of those people's votes may have twice the value of anyone else's due to rural over-representation I imagine the LDP will be perfectly satisfied with it.

Not sure how they will fix the massive hole Japan has dug itself into, but they have more of a clue than the other ms have demonstrated, and most importantly, a reformist bent.

The Japan Innovation Party on 27 March 2016 the party merged with the Democratic Party of Japan and Vision of Reform to form the Democratic Party (Minshintō) and THAT party split on 28 September 2017, before the 2017 general election, with many its members contesting the election as candidates for the Party of Hope, Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan or as party members without nomination. On 7 May 2018 the DP merged with the Party of Hope to form the Democratic Party for the People.

...but they have more of a clue than the other ms have demonstrated, and most importantly, a reformist bent.

Doesn't matter. They have clearly failed to make much of an impact if they are trailing the LDP by 20 points in the polls and are never going to get into government with anyone, unless it's in a coalition with the LDP who will pretty much ignore them.

So, how is 27% approval rating something to be happy about? It is like saying I am very happy because I got a 27% on my test. I do not think so. A joke is more like it.

Major media of Japan have become obedience to right-wing parties including LDP or their believers year by year.

yesterday, LDP famous politician repeated falsehood at TV debate program to criticize opposition party.

But, major media have ignored it.

What a sad nation Japan has become.

Everyone has given up and accepts that the future will be bleak no matter what and given their caliber of politicians I can't blame them.

I first washed up on these shores just before the bubble burst.

At that time it was such a dynamic country and,in fact,an arrogant nation.

The World was its oyster and why not.

The Emperor's palace was worth more than the entire state of California.

It was truly an exceptional time.

However,after a generation of truly unexceptional MPs who only got their lauded positions by clinging on to their political dynasty coattails Japan has come to this.

A nation with a birthrate falling off a cliff,a national debt over ¥10,000,000 a person,an inward looking populace and and a backward looking parliament,a population with almost twice as many seniors as under-15s.

The LDP has royally messed up this country yet they are in front in the polls by a factor of 3 or 4.

I love Japan and its people,yet they seem to be like lemmings.

Only marginally, and it won't matter if the (slightly) less popular parties have more candidates.

The trend is positive for this party, and not so for the other parties.

Really? I couldn't remember who their leader was until I checked, and apart from making a fuss about Diet members' perks I have no idea what they stand for or what they've achieved. I'm always on the lookout for parties that could give the LDP a kicking but since Kishida has turned out to be relatively inoffensive the conservatives who might otherwise have taken an interest are sticking with the LDP.

Looks like they're no better at than the CDP or the Communists, who really should just stick to local politics.
