"I'm convinced that, at the end of the day, I myself need to meet with Chairman Kim Jong Un to resolve it," Uhh, you think? So what have you been doing all this time?

Tokyo is closely monitoring whether the two countries will move forward negotiations on the denuclearization of North Korea and improve their ties

Closely monitoring......how lovely, thats all that Japan ever does. It just translates as bunch of overpaid bureaucrats at MFA sitting around watching TV all day.

Abe uses the North Korean situation as a propaganda tool time after time.

Yet again Abe’s diplomacy is left wanting.

Little thought, he killed his half brother, killed his uncle by using an anti aircraft gun. Then we have Trump who has a history of sexual abuse and as he himself on video said "I'm rich" I can do whatever I want.

Neither are people I would work for let alone support.

not a cuddles couple for me, might as well throw in radiation tea and a bone saw

why are word leaders so obnoxious

denuclearization! What a good sound word! I desire denuclearization in Korean peninsula not only for Korean people but also for peaple all over the world.

Stay the course, Mr. President, and may God bless your efforts.

Trump will need to make major concessions if he wants Kim to give up his nukes , threats and demands wont work, war wont work unless America is prepared to sacrifice 1000s of SK lives in the process. Kim just may be the first world leader to force Trump to compromise and I applaud the day that happens. The closer the 2020 elections become the more compromised Trump will become. Kim is playing Trump harder than a hillbilly fiddle

JenniSchiebel: "During Obama's presidency, North Korea conducted illegal missile launches an average of once every 34 days."

Why is it than when the US conducts missile launches its OK but when NK conducts launches is illegal?

The US has NO authority to say how can and who cannot have or launch missiles. Every nation has the right to have a defence program.

Kim Jong-Un has no intention of giving up his nuclear weapons.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Abe had said he would not meet with Kim unless an outcome was guaranteed for the settlement of the abduction issue, but he recently changed his position, saying he would meet the North Korean leader "without conditions" to resolve outstanding bilateral issues.

"Wait, you won't just follow my commands? Huh. Well, then I guess I'll have to treat you like a human being, then. How regrettable." Abe's an idiot.

North Korea has stated there can be no talks with Trump if they have preconditions.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Trump has only three things in his mind when he meets with Kim Jong Un:

1 - Will this make me look good?

2 - Will this help me get a Nobel Prize (because Obama got one).

3 - Will I be able to build a hotel in this country in the future (on a special deal).

Thats all. He couldn’t give a flying fig about abductees or NK human rights record.

The exact same goes for Putin and Russia, and Saudi Arabia and MBS.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

As long as there is dialogue there's a chance. If Abe will meet him without conditions then go for it. Just keep the channels of communication open.

"JenniSchiebel",

yes, you're right, well at least concerning the last couple of months.

But maybe you want to make yourself smart and see what happened during the first year of deDonnies presidency. How about just 2017:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_North_Korean_missile_tests

Looks a little different, I guess?

And with his course (not just in reference to NK), the rats will soon(er or later) leave the sinking ship!

2 ( +5 / -3 )

abe, deal with this N.Korea problem yrself. It is yr duty.

Hoping Trump will do something for you? Good luck with that.

But certain people's sheer hatred for Trump will utterly prevent them from objectively recognizing that reality.

"Certain" makes it sound like a few people, more like 80~90% of the world.

Facetime: "Objectively speaking, the United States has a vast body of water on both coasts"

But the US has 800 bases around the globe, with no water between bases.

"United Nations Security Council is the body that decided it was not ok".

But the UN has also passed resolutions regarding the Palestinian territories which the US ignore. So the US chooses which resolutions it accepts.  Also, the US uses coercion/blackmail so that these nations vote with the US at UN resolutions.

Again, the US has no authority to decide which nations can have missile or the defence program of any nation. The foreign policy of the US is to disarm any nation which it cannot dominate - America First.

Trump is charming NK for future property development post Presidency, once he can open them up sufficiently to develop and modernise. Japan’s domestic concerns are nothing to him. Abe, if you want to negotiate abductees and security issues do it yourself.

What an abysmal loser!!!

What a farce. The bromance between one of the worst dictators in the world (and history for that matter) and another wanna be dictator, makes me physically ill.

"Why is it than when the US conducts missile launches its OK but when NK conducts launches is illegal?"

United Nations Security Council is the body that decided it was not ok and second geographically speaking it does not have many paths to fly that do not potentially fly over another country. Literally any long range testing would most likely fly over Japan. Unless you think North Korea would fly it over Russian or Chinese territory.

Objectively speaking, the United States has a vast body of water on both coasts. Russia has the artic, India has the Indian ocean and China has the east China sea sort of (a lot of shipping lanes there) or there own land as they are large enough for that.

@ Old Man. I usualy agree 100 percent with your posts, but youre words are not wise this time. PM Abe is not another "wanna be dictator". He is democratically elected Prime Minister. And Trump is not a dictator either.

Trump has only three things in his mind when he meets with Kim Jong Un...

What were the three things in Obama's mind when he didn't meet with either Kim Jong Un or his father?

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Kim Jong-Un has no intention of giving up his nuclear weapons.

He may not want to, but he's going to because he wants to live.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

During Obama's presidency, North Korea conducted illegal missile launches an average of once every 34 days.

Under Trump's presidency, this sort of tension on the Korean peninsula has been drastically reduced.

But certain people's sheer hatred for Trump will utterly prevent them from objectively recognizing that reality.

Stay the course, Mr. President, and may God bless your efforts.
