If if wasn't for the US forces stationed here, North Korea would have invaded this place decades ago. Oh, and if you already didn't know, the sole function of the SDF would be to evacuate the Imperial Family, politicians, top business leaders and the hoi polloi be damned. Therefore its only proper for Abe (and others here) to kiss President Trump's butt as some posters have so eloquently put it...

Sad thing is taxpayers in host country will probably be paying for everything. In the states, the federal govt hardly reimburses cities when the president visits. Neither does the state.

Looking forward to meeting the President of the United States here in June 2019.

Maybe he'll let you kiss his ring and call him "godfather." Or run along behind him carrying his toilet paper.

Abe's such a loathsome sycophant I'm surprised he didn't ask Trump if he wanted the job himself.

Abe please accept tarrifs and finish Toyota, buy expensive out of date weapons, buy the guy dinner.

Writing as an American citizen who follows news from Japan and visits from time to time, I encourage the Japanese government to refrain from inviting the American president to visit until the US replaces Donald Trump.

Listen, Trump love or hate aside. Can you imagine being a world leader and having to attend this. Monarchies are long gone. I already get bored sitting through graduation ceremonies each year. I feel sorry for anyone who has to sit through this event. It's the equivalent to those royal weddings - b o r i n g.

Don’t bother ... Narcissus J. Trumpnocchio will be out of office by then.

Mueller Time will be on Friday (US time) at Manafort’s sentencing when they outline exactly how Manafort lied. That’s going to expose a lot more.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

The invitation may be a tad too premature, given it's "Mueller Time" any day now. The hapless Abe may have to lick goodbye to his orange lollipop who could, with any luck, be "unfriended" by next year ( undoubtedly to the relief of the new Emperor and millions of us well-wishers). If not, and Trump-sama does turn up, he'll soon be asking: what's the Japanese for "Get me outta here"?

Ganbare Japan!, stupid people are always puzzled, by definition.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Just as PM Abe was the first world Leader to visit Trump, Trump should be first world Leader to visit the new Emperor. The friendship between PM Abe and Trump is stronger than any other 2 Leaders in the world. I am puzzled why people don't understand this, and call Trump and PM Abe names.

Japan aims to demonstrate its strong alliance with the United States through Trump's visit as a state guest

It is a signal to the world how USA and Japan will forever have each other's back.

Dogdoo is meant to be thrown out, not invited/brought in.

This man is a hateful, poor excuse of a human. An admitted sexual predator..."I grab women..."

Invite him to stay the hell away!!

14 ( +15 / -1 )

Wow Abe is just a terrible sycophant isn't he? Trump likes it we all know. They're a match made in heaven.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

Please don't. He would only say "get me out of here," anyway. Frankly, he's a disgrace.

13 ( +14 / -1 )

Hahaha, Abe isn't stupid. Key word: delay.

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

What an embarrassment to Japan Abe is! Other world leaders are running away from Trump and only meet him when they absolutely have to but Abe is always chasing after him and trying to arrange meetings with him.

-4 ( +5 / -9 )

Not a good idea to invite Trump. Might give him ideas about him becoming an emperor himself.

11 ( +12 / -1 )

Why? For another cheeseburger? Abe doesn't get wineing and dining foreign leaders doesn't work.

Japan considers inviting Trump after new emperor's accession in May - Headline

Oh God. The usual suspects would be in a frenzy. President Trump probably couldn't care one way or the other while recognizing Japan as a key strategic ally.

Looking forward to meeting the President of the United States here in June 2019.

The Imperial Household Agency should say 'no' to Abe. Perhaps they can put the new Emporer on a tour of the country to meet all the Japanese people who couldn't go to the accession?

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Im not sure why you would take the risk? Did he ask to meet the Emperor? Upside here is?

4 ( +6 / -2 )

I can see trumps walking out if he does go there,or he might push the old emperor out of the way so he can give the new emperor one of his trademark handshakes and tell people how great a guy the new emperor is going to be.

12 ( +13 / -1 )

I'm sure he gets bored soon.

In his defense, monarchies are boring. Maybe he can live-tweet the accession.

"The former emperor is so low-energy. Sad!"

"I can't understand a word. B-o-r-i-n-g. Wonder if Shin-chan and I can cut out early. He told me Kabukicho is great"

9 ( +10 / -1 )

Trump may come for such rite? Accession takes hours. I'm sure he gets bored soon. He can't stand any more when he sits for hours to just see it. He will go somewhere halfway. better not invite him for such ceremony.

12 ( +14 / -2 )

This means Abe doesn't hold the emperor in very high regard if his first task is to be around Trump. What is he doing?

4 ( +11 / -7 )

June 2019? Doesn't Japan have restrictions on felons entering the country?

17 ( +19 / -2 )

Imagine your first assignment at work was meeting the rudest, most uncouth and most childish customer you have.

Give the new lad a break.

20 ( +22 / -2 )

Please don't - don't send the embarrassment here again where all us Americans here will be forced to answer questions from our Japanese counterparts; "how did this guy ever get to be your President?"

I would like to see him come for one reason - to see him bow before the new emperor and then see how Fox News covers it after their ridiculous faux outrage with President Obama...

18 ( +20 / -2 )

I hope Trump comes and congratulates the new emperor by patting him on the head. That would perfectly reflect Japan's position as a vassal state. People should know how they stand.

3 ( +13 / -10 )

Shinzo's sticking his nose up Trump's butt again as far as he can, but inviting him to meet the new Emperor and celebrate would be a huge mistake, and the country would be on eggshells the whole time, wondering how he'll insult the new Tenno. And he would, absolutely.

3 ( +15 / -12 )

Why invite the orange dude? He doesn't give a toss about this. How much is Abe going to keep kissing this dude's butt?

9 ( +18 / -9 )

it's not the japanese emperor's coronation. it's trump's coronation. bow down!
