how about Japan spend that money on its own citizens, especially those who are struggling due to this pandemic !?

Well actually that was what it was apparently spent on. But corruption, warlords, weapons for terrorists, hotels, $50000 missiles, international meetings, blood money, mining, private contractors...

The US could have bought the whole country for that! Or at least, if they had put that money into peaceful activities, building roads, hospitals, schools, etc., the Taliban would have died a natural death and Japan wouldn't be offering up this $720 million that it cannot afford.

What a total waste it will never be used as intended. It fuels corruption bribery and nepotism.

Afghanistan has relied on outside assistance for most of its national budget. But the international community is seeking to build up the country's capacity during what is often described as the "decade of transformation" from 2015 to 2024.

So this has worked so well over the last 20 years, let's do more of it.  Just tipping money down the drain.

Better off not creating these failed states than paying to "fix" them.

Afghan reconstruction, what a waste of time. The money sent, if at all will just be taken by the corrupted, as usual. Nothing will change if you give them $1 or $720 M.

Btw Japan, aren't about to loose millions, maybe billions from the Olympics that WON'T take place next year? How about you save that cash for the people of Japan instead.

There are a TON of things here that need help first. How about building more hospitals for the pandemic. Or you know, more day care facilities to help families out first?

Huh? Really? Japan, You have enough issues at home. How about investing 720 mil in to COVID testing and bailing out small business impacted by COVID instead of trying to impress the world with your big investments in other countries that could care less about Japan.

They don’t just send a bundle of cash... the real beneficiaries of this are Japanese companies. There will be ship loads of Toyotas, and engineering companies getting projects.

Not asking fir handouts from the government, just wishing the government would help me help myself by making the state controlled japan post lift its sorry ?ss and resume accepting packages for air shipment. Instead I am being bombarded with company tax, pension, health, city, car, property taxes. I guess outside PR trumps the well being of the masses.

I think the US and the rest of the world has spent well over $2 trillion in Afghanistan since 2001. You could have literally given every Afghan $55k and they'd be better off. Where will this $720 million go I wonder? Paying NGOs to do paper work? The Taliban still control 50% of the country. Imagine the problems all that money could have solved elsewhere.

Pledge money elsewhere while people right here are suffering.

Meanwhile, tens of thousands of small businesses and restaurants go into bankruptcy in Japan due to the COVID outbreak.

There will be no peace in Afghanistan until the Taliban are destroyed, so save you cash Japan.

This money comes from our taxes. We have folks still living in temporary housing after the Tohoku earthquake. These aren’t even loans, they seem to be outright grants. The only “return” we’ll get are the construction contracts. How pathetic.

You know, despite the economic slowdown because of the pandemic, I’m glad that Japan and other nations are doing this. Because as bad as we may have it, Afghans have it much worse, believe you me. I mean, at least when you get on a bus or something, you don’t have to worry about it being blown up. Or if you drive, you don’t have to worry about insurgents or whoever.

Plus, Japan is not stepping aside, and letting China alone have even more influence around the world. So that’s an added bonus as well.

Plus it will give the government more opportunities to syphon more taxpayers cash to J-Inc. as well.

i wonder how contracts MHI and IHI will get?

Wait. The money can be better spent at home for COVID-19 preventions and to help small businesses ride out the pandemic induced recession.
