"Kishida eyes attending NPT review conference in New York in August".

Seems like Kishida eyes up anything which involves a foreign trip which enables him to strut the world's stage looking important - I think he has far more pressing problems to sort out at home before he pretends to solve the problems of the world.

For a PM who hammered his tourist sector, he certainly enjoys travelling abroad.

the gathering runs from Aug 1 to Aug.26

the only change will be USA reducing it weapons held on US soil, by moving them to its 750 US foreign military bases, China and Russia reducing ICBM and replacing them with the next generation multiple 200kt supersonic warheads, and NK doing a test.

While the launch of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons was hailed for providing a boost to the global nuclear disarmament movement, its effectiveness has been in question as no nuclear-armed states have joined it.

The current crisis in Ukraine and the multiple launched from North Korea clearly show the treaty is not being effective, what is the point of having a treaty if the states that threaten with nuclear war keep doing it without effective opposition.

The LDP and Kishida would rather appear to be working hard, in true Japanese style, than set achievable goals.

Shinzo Abe had 27 different meetings with Vladimir Putin in the 10 years he was Prime Minister of Japan and achieved nothing, absolutely nothing. "Achieving a world without nuclear weapons" is a laudable ambition but is doomed to failure as all the countries which possess them will never give up their nuclear weapons.

Kishida, elected from a constituency in Hiroshima, one of the two Japanese cities devastated by U.S. nuclear bombs in 1945, is seen as eager for Japan to play a role in bringing nuclear and non-nuclear states together for accords toward achieving a world without nuclear weapons

Even if Kishida hails from Hiroshima, wouldn't it be more productive of his time to work on something feasible, like improving the welfare of the people of Japan, than on something nigh impossible, " achieving a world without nuclear weapons" ?

The LDP and Kishida would rather appear to be working hard, in true Japanese style, than set achievable goals.

So the crony capitalist corporate welfare will continue while Kishida campaigns for a nuclear free world.
