Kishida, in U.N. speech, vows to spend ¥3 bil to help achieve world without nuclear weapons

With my amazing and advanced skills of prognostication I predict this ¥3 bil will not achieve a single instance of denuclearization , as someone looking at the current geo-politics could see if they were not playing with the public's money in a desperate attempt at significance.

As nations should jointly resolve global matters, human-centered cooperation has to be promoted, said Kishida, adding it is necessary to place emphasis on high-quality and sustainable economic growth.

Most of the humans comprising the Japanese electorate have not seen the quality of their economic situation grow under Kishida's New capitalism.

Which is just and extension of Abenomics into a late stage capitalist phase of more concentration of wealth.

I don’t think Russia,North Korea, China and Iran including the USA would ever give up their nuclear weapons.

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is going the right way to support the world for achieving an earth without nuclear weapons

-11 ( +4 / -15 )

@nosuke

The same can be said for the UK, France, India, Pakistan and Israel

Please don't waste money. Such a world will never exist.

Of what he says, much is right, but of that much right everything is completely unrealistic.

vows to spend ¥3 bil to help achieve world without nuclear weapons

In exchange weapon with more tritium in the sea.

-13 ( +5 / -18 )

¥3-billion? That's about $30-million, plus or minus a few bucks. Not even a drop in the bucket. A nuclear-armed ICBM costs more.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

Maybe he misspoke and he meant to say he was going to spend 3 billion yen to achieve a world with nuclear weapons.

Ukraine used to be a nuclear power. If it hadn’t scrapped its nukes, there would have been no Russian invasion and Crimea would still be part of Ukraine. They learned the lesson the hard way.

The lesson being not to trust a Russian unless you have him in a headlock?

The money should be used elsewhere, rather than on an unachievable goal, good intentions not withstanding.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

20 million dollars is absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things. It sounds a lot more impressive in yen.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Unfortunately he'll be wasting money, no country currently with them will want do that, especially those ruled by communist dictatorial presidents so the rest can't afford to.

It doesn't cost that much to sign up to the already existing UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. Why re-invent the wheel? What kind of ulterior motive could there be for pretending that Japan is fearlessly battling on against worldwide intransigence? Is the domestic audience even aware of this treaty?

While helping to push through measures that doubled Japan's military budget to new record highs.

While helping to push through measures that doubled Japan's military budget to new record highs.

In response to nations that have nuclear weapons. Duh.

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

That's a very expensive dream, Fumio.

-7 ( +3 / -10 )

Man, this fool LOVES to spend money that isn’t his.

That’s all he does!

And nothing to show for it except for a collection of selfies from around the world and angry tax payers.

What is he even opening up his mouth for?

and is anyone even going to see this money?

I wouldn’t be shocked if he foots this bill, just to cover up his other “debts” through embezzlement.

-8 ( +6 / -14 )

Fumio mean smoke in Spanish,so what has Fumio been smoking in his pipe dream

-8 ( +6 / -14 )

Yeah I get it.

With that 20 mill we can obtain all the nukes on earth, erase the ability to make more, and turn what we got into fireworks

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Why didn't Japan just tell U.S. to abolish nuclear weapons? Oh, sorry that was your sad story!

-14 ( +1 / -15 )

kensho: "Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is going the right way to support the world for achieving an earth without nuclear weapons"

Except that he refuses to sign a ban on them. That would be the easiest and most powerful first step -- and FREE! -- but nope. Instead he just wants to throw more of our tax money for other people to make efforts which he will not follow anyway until the US does.

-7 ( +8 / -15 )

3 billion yen to abolish nuclear weapons? Perhaps Japan should pay more to help her own poverty populations!

-8 ( +6 / -14 )

Does spending that money not get voted on by the tax payers who will pay for it?

What a total scam it is to be a Japan resident tax payer….

0 ( +7 / -7 )

Mr. Kishida can tell the Japanese public that Japan is doing a holy duty of abolishing nuclear weapons. and the people will vote for your LDP party.

Just don't tell the people the bill was 3billion yen!

-11 ( +4 / -15 )

I'm not Hatoyama, but could you do that with your own pocket money? 3 billion yen won't change the world.

There are many other ways to use it. At least increase defense spending by that much.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

I believe that Japanese/Nipponese sisters & brothers can do this as they have been the most affected till date with nuclear fall outs. Mr. Kishida, please keep your promise of doing this, at least I am with you with my voice.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

I get it!! So this is why it was a show and tell. You just can't talk the talk you have to do it. Kishida knew he would address the UN assembly and gender equality was perhaps on the agenda especially with Japan ranking 138th out of 146 countries with regard to gender equality Kishida knew before making the trip he had to cover his tracks so he quickly appointed five women as ministers, including Yoko Kamikawa who became Japan's first female foreign minister in about 20 year.

The Asian nation ranked 138th out of 146 countries with regard to gender equality in politics, the World Economic Forum, a Swiss-based think tank, reported earlier this year.

In a cabinet reshuffle last week, Kishida appointed a record-tying five women as ministers, including Yoko Kamikawa who became Japan's first female foreign minister in about 20 years.

Lots of these European leaders are insecure, that the US Congress support for Ukrainain are in doubt, they could easily make up the difference, but know their is no support of the European survival by even lots of White people, who see NATO is no than a protection racket for European

Basically he needed some excuse for an otherwise meaningless visit to the UN.

No doubt his staff came up with this one in the eleventh hour.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

@Moonraker I just took a look at the list of non-signatory nations. You'll find the expected like North Korea and Israel. And lookie here, India hasn't signed the treaty. The more you learn...

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Good grief. Countries with nukes will never give them up, no matter how much is spent.

Are politicians good at anything except wasting money?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Nuclear weapons, as long as they're never actually launched, make the world safer.

It shouldn't have to be explained why.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Zelensky is on PR trip to the US, against Russia, only an insecure person ,would have to remind the how bad Russia is ,when he lived as citizen of Russia ,from a person experience, lots of Ukrainain reverted back to their corrupt ways, why living as Russian citizen,as far begging goes, their is an old saying, say that people in hell want cold,do not mean they will get it

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Japan spending more on weapons each year and in the UN Kishida becomes a dove for peace?

Only slightly hypocritical…

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

who will get the fake money freshly printed ????

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Japan plans to build more ammunition depots, that is from the story below this one. But i suppose if they are not nuclear weapons its OK.
