Should they pledge to boost currently weaker yen instead?

The LDP seeks to take "powerful" steps to alleviate the pain from inflation and retain subsidies for oil wholesales to lower retail gasoline prices.

The CDPJ has rightfully pointed out that these "powerful steps" are all corporate welfare.

The LDP has engineered the weak yen and inflation as stated goals and expects the public to absorb the painful consequences unaided while Japan Inc. reaps higher corporate profits as well as taxpayer funded subsidies to sweeten the deal even further.

Well, I feel so much safer now that they've announced all their plans and how they're going to arm themselves. It's hard to imagine that the Chinese aren't reading this too and just planning to attack before the budget goes through. What will we do then? Let's use the money to arm citizens if there's a threat.

One party systems don’t have to answer to their citizens.

Japans is being forced to change its traditionally (for the last 70 odd years) pacifist approach thanks to the actions, threats, posturing and aggressive behaviour of three of its closest neighbours. Failure to adapt to the changing geopolitical environment that Japan occupies would be negligent at the very least.

Having said that I also question the utility of their current economic stance, weakening the yen is primarily aimed at boosting Japans traditionally export based economy but it is short sighted and probably erroneous as the temporary boost is soon negated as Japan must import raw material which become more expensive, and erroneous as much of the manufacturing has been outsourced from Japan.

Do the LDPs know the Japanese yen was falling sharply these days?

I don't particularly blame them, what with Japan being led by chickenhawks like Shinzo Abe for the past decade and going along with whatever the US government wants.
