Waste of a trip, not to mention the $2-million.

No can do.

Russia is Mongolia's security guarantor, this is why China stopped its invasion where it did and not advance forward.

Mongolia's foreign policy is as transparent as it is pragmatic.

Mongolian leaders understand that in order for Mongolia’s economy to grow, its foreign policy must prioritize its national interest. And it is in Mongolia’s national interest to maintain stable bilateral and multilateral relations with Russia and China, and the rest of the world. Particularly when you are seeing a restless “do your job” movement among your young people, who are voicing their concerns about the economy (benchmark interest rate at 9%), jobs (unemployment 8.1% before the Ukrainian invasion), taxes (personal income tax at 10%), inflation (14.4 percent in March), wages (stagnant) and the pace of industrialization (snail).

When you are on a tightrope, balance is key.

Hmm, did we miss something? Which invasion and when did it take place?

Kishida must be out of his mind ?

Does Kishida really think Mongolia is even remotely interested in anything Kishida has to say .

I hope Kishida realizes that he's really not welcome to push his urges onto other countries.

And if Mongolia doesn't listen, what will Kishida do? Ban all Mongolian sumo wrestlers?

Dear Japan, you keep making a fool of yourself by acting like a US lapdog to please its pathetic whims..

Even the South Koreans don't bow this low. What is in it for Japan? The backbone has already disappeared.

Such a weird course of action from Japan.

Of course Mongolia is not going to alienate their [very powerful] neighbors at the behest of American interests. Any leader worth the name wouldn't do that.

If they WERE going to change their mind, why would Japan be the country that makes them do so. There's no deep and abiding friendship there that supercedes other relationship.

The only thing I can think of is that this is an easy way for Japan to say that they are trying to contribute too without actually having to do much.

Japan just did this to placate their American taskmasters. So transparent.

Mongolia?

Why should they ?

Japan .. smh

Funny how people here are unaware of the close ties between Japan and Mongolia. Japan is the only nation they have a free trade agreement with, for example. So it simply shows a lack of knowledge to think Japan has no influence here. As two countries go, the relationship is close.

And that is probably why the US tasked Japan with urging Mongolia in this direction. There's a reason the US didn't ask themselves. That said, it is sad to see Japan doing its master's bidding here - especially as there is virtually no chance that Mongolia wants to make enemies with Russia. They know full well they are in no position to antagonize Russia and China.

Even the South Koreans don't bow this low.

Check any interaction between the Moon administration and North Korea.

Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi on Sunday indirectly urged his Mongolian counterpart Batmunkh Battsetseg to join international pressure on Russia

So Japan has no it's own political interests?

Such perseverance can give certain results, but not the ones expected in Tokyo.
