Burke, summoned Maritime Safety Board (MSB) Director Takeo Okubo and ordered him to assign a task force of minesweepers. Only four days later on Oct. 6, 16 vessels carrying 1,200 Japanese soldiers departed the port of Shimonoseki for the Korean Peninsula. On Oct. 17, Chief Steward Nakatani Sakataro was killed at the age of 21 and 18 crewmen were wounded in minesweeping operations near the Incheon offshore.

No, you are incorrect, The operation you speak of was a clandestine operation under the command of the US Navy making use of former Japanese Imperial Navy Minesweepers. It was not officially recognized for obvious reasons. The Korean war lasted from June 1950 until July 1953. Japan did not become a member of the United Nations until 1956 and was therefore not part of the UN Command

I can imagine how much he is a "best friend" to Trump, as much as Trump knows that Abe is "an actor" but not the right actor to perform his theatrical story.

And that is exactly what Japan is doing. Letting the US and South Korea take lead. After all, Japan was not part of the UN Command that fought North Korea so it is not at war. Nor is Japan a target of North Korean "unification" as South Korea is. Yet this common sense approach draws nothing but low brow comments about "irrelevance" and "lapdog". Abe in fact IS remaining quiet on the issue. These articles are english translations of Kyodo articles aimed at the Japanese public for domestic consumption.

Yet he made the statement. Looks to me like he's desperately trying to salvage some credibility as an international political player before LDP members and Japanese voters start to realise he really is just a shallow, dull, mediocre fraud.

Yes it does. The point is that unlike the US, South Korea and many other nations, Japan is not officially in a state of war with North Korea. Hence, Japan's role in the current diplomatic maneuvers towards a diplomatic solution is not at the forefront, therefore these inane comments about "irrelevance" and "sidelined: are just that, inane. Japan's role will become perhaps undesirably apparent if a peace treaty is signed and efforts are made to aid North Korea.

It is too late, Abe. The summit has already been successful before it is even started. All Abe can do at this moment is to shut up and wait for the result.

Nevetheless, Japanese fought and died during the Korean war. Does it matter whose command they fought and died under?
