support rate falls to 2nd-lowest 24.5%

How low it can go?

Economic security minister Sanae Takaichi last month urged Kishida to push the event back, saying that ballooning building materials costs and a labor shortage stemming from the expo preparations could hamper post-disaster reconstruction efforts for the quake-hit areas.

While I absolutely despise this woman and her announcement was nothing more than a publicity stunt, I do agree with her, this was the chance to end this stupid folly of hosting this unwanted Expo, and help your fellow countryman. But no, the construction industry must get theirs, Noto peninsula be damned. I guess rebuilding towns and people's lives in not lucrative enough for them. They'd rather build something that will be torn down in a years time. Think about that!

Some 84.9 percent said LDP lawmakers who failed to report income from fundraising parties should explain what they used the funds for

There is a different two tier taxation system for oligarchs. Like the legal system.

In the latest poll, the LDP continued to receive the highest backing among the political parties at 31.5 percent, down from the previous 33.3 percent.

Blech. People need get it into their heads that it's not the PM or the cabinet that's the problem, it's the whole party. Maybe they're conflating support for their local Diet members with support for the whole party, but their local LDP Diet members have most likely been in on this fundraising parties scam, especially if they're important or influential.

The only thing surprising about this news is that the “support rate” isn’t in single digits yet.

0 ( +8 / -8 )

He is a lame-duck. He can't make anything better. He may be looking for a good time to dissolve the Diet.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

I think Takaichi's move is to further lower Kishida's poll numbers so that there will be no choice but to dissolve the cabinet and to have elections for a new P.M. She knows that the the poplulation is against the Osaka expo and that resources need to be pulled to the disaster area so Kishida will be in a no win situation which will result in lower numbers. The LDP knows sailing with this clown will only drag them down even further so it's a mutiny on a ship of fools.

World's growing chaos, those in Office = Deep Doodoo!

Most major European leader approval ratings lower than Kishida, Biden's historically low entering election year, etc.

Without Global Peace, Prosperity for Most (except those benefitting from Govt. money printing) is a Pure Fantasy.

nobody acknowledged Kishida as a Japanese leader, LOL

The survey called 495 randomly selected households with eligible voters and 2,168 mobile phone numbers. It yielded responses from 428 household members and 627 mobile phone users.

This is terrible polling. Any reputable, professional polling firm would tell you this is not enough of a sample for it to be a legitimate poll.

Plenty of reputable polling firms have sample sizes around 1K, just slightly larger margin of error which they disclose. Random selection's the key, so no demographic or geographic concentration.

Most polling sample sizes less than 2K in US regarding 2024 election, for context.

When it's a one horse race why would they care!?

4 ( +8 / -4 )

should explain what they used the funds for

No.

They should just resign.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Kishida's unfortunately been caught up having to support US failed destabilization policies, from US NATO proxy war escalation of Ukraine's now 10year old civil war that's largely resolved for those seeking their legal independence from Kiev for Cause to Taiwan to Israel, etc.

Nobody could win with the above hand.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

So lo? After everything he’s done for us? Such as…er…said things and stuff?

But it makes not a jot of difference. Whether Kishida stays in the job with an approval rate which, were it an annual performance assessment on any actual worker would get him/her fired, or if he gets replaced by another empty LDP vessel with no intention to change anything, the LDP will win by a landslide in the next election.

Democracy just didn’t happen here.

Of course the rules were written by them for them. This is what happens when you have a government made up of people who have inherited their positions of power over multiple generations.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Do the LDP care? Nope! They’ll still be in power because of the incompetent opposition with too many small parties. So step 1. Leader resigns. 2 leader bows.3.choose new leader. Step 4 everyone shout Banzai. Step 5 go to the country, and win. Rinse and repeat.

The problem is there is no alternative.

Man, this loser is going to get a 'State visit ' welcome when he visits the USA in April.

I guess you can say....." What goes around, comes around."

Afterall, he gave Abe a state funeral that cost more than Queen Elizabeth's.

Japan.....wake up!

Awful PM but aren't all LDP PMs?

Other issue that Kishida San's dealing with is the power of special interests in Japan and their influence over his party members.

Most don't appreciate just how corrupt democracy has become due to $donor class and their corporations controlling Govt. policy.

Wealthy outsiders like Trump that bypass the donor class and their special interests = their WORST nightmare.

In my view, ONLY rich northern European countries have largely avoided above problem, as most are smaller and easier to govern. Not so for Japan and US.

Seems Kishida San more than bit naive regarding power of Japan's special interests. US promotes democracy so aggressively as new democracies, like Ukraine become then just become satellites of US globalists.

Russia's not interested in becoming US satellite it strongly appears. NO NEW democracies anymore, as World's caught on to TRUE US Democracy "Agenda"!

Surprised that it is still above 20%!

Southern and Eastern Europe and the Western Hemisphere would like a word with you. Also still Putin's War.

FYI Morning Consult, considered solid liberal polling outfit, has Kishida under 20% today.

The problem is there is no alternative.

There's always an alternative. People could just vote for whoever else is running in their constuencies, and you would probably end up with a Diet full of independents and politicians from minor parties, and no one with an overall majority. They'd pretty much have to negotiate, cast aside party politics and find consensus to get anything done. I don't see how it could be any worse.

The problem is there is no alternative.

There are. They're called elementary school students. They'd do a hell of a lot more than he does.
