The latest opinion poll was based on responses from 525 voters using fixed-line telephones and 519 voters with mobile phones.

A total of 1044 people.

Well, not sure if that is representative of the voting population as a whole.

But looking at the landlines vs mobile is interesting.

A high number of respondents with landlines would indicate older voters with a more conservative attitudes.

Not a proven fact, just an observation.

What a wonderful way to start the week...not. This just keeps repeating itself again and again it's depressing.

I'll never forget when I was with my ex Japanese gf a few years ago and I criticized abenomics, she told me that he was doing all he could to make the economy better, but that we would need 10 years before seeing results so we needed to be patient. This is likely what many others in Japan delude themselves into believing which is why this fool is still in office.

My neighbor lady says Abe is most appropriate to represent Japan among other foreign leaders at the international meets.

Big Summit with Kim-san coming up, finalization of New TPP led by PM Abe and vice PM Aso, Olympic, and so on. No one else is qualified to lead the way, and the public can see this. Well done, PM Abe.

6 points up is not big. Points would be quickly down when some scandals heated up again. It seems that Japanese think most don't like liar Abe but there is no other better leader as PM.  Abe is keeping his PM's office for a while.

Glorious news for a monday morning! PM ABE will be PM for at least another 3 years now, including during the glorious Tokyo Olympics in 2012! This is win-win, with new, better economy and SUMMITS, Japan is a great country now!

I my local community, in town and at my hospital, I meet many people. Of the thousand plus people I have met recently, only one person I know likes Abe. These people are from all walks of life. The only one who likes him is the owner of my hospital who works 7 days a week, and very long hours, doesn’t watch tv and only hobby is her granddaughter.

guess what comes next? that's right, the constitutional amendment to send troops overseas. He has been dying to pass that and now he will see his chance

Because, you stats skills are somewhat lacking. Their sample size is fine. Let me show you

Sample size= Zsqrd x p(1-p)/esrd

N is the population size. In this case 100 million, the number Japanese voters.

e is the margin of error. Most polls are 3.5

Z= the confidence level most polls are 95, so Z=1.96

p-.5

If you do the math you will get around 784

 

If change the margin of error to 3.0 you should get around 1060. This poll used 3.0.

 

Now you are saying, but the poll sample was only 1044, so the poll is wrong. First, the difference is only 16, which is small and thus acceptable. Second, they could have used the number of voters who voted in the last election which was 55 million. If you run the numbers with 55 million, you will get sample size of 784. Finally, they could have used a confidence level of 90.

 

In short, the poll’s sample size is about right.

First, the difference between mobile vs land is only 6, which n terms of methodology is meaningless. So, if I accept you logic, which I don’t, that landline is conservative and mobile is liberal. The sample is pretty much 50 50

Second, you assume that older voters don’t have mobile phones, which they do. 

Third, you assume a type of phone determines ones political views. Really? Liberals don’t have land lines and conservatives don’t have mobile phones.

Fourth, NHK, Manichi, Nikkei and Yomiuri all ran polls over the last week. They all showed the same thing. Abe surging.

Please accept the fact the Abe is like Toyota at Le mans headed for the Checked Flag!

Mr. Abe please resign, you can't help Japan anymore. Abenomics of no advance. You want military budget up, You follow Trump with no idea. You want Japan Constitution to be changed for your grandfather's Nippon Kaigi and for your selfish policy, far away from us the citizens heart. Who is supporting you are just bunch of wrong directions right winger or the cronies around you, who are a lot.

econstats, all statistics is about things, not about thinking, therefore, your math is wrong from very beginning, unless all Japanese have no ideas, or have only one idea.

Alexandre T. Ishii, Abe tried very hard to do something for his boss, but unfortunately, his boss is not Japanese people. Abe called neighbors threats in the past 5 years and damaged relationship with almost every nations surrounding Japan. Japan must change in order to recover the relationships with neighbors. For that to happen, Abe must change, or be changed. We don't need arrows for economic policy, we need bridges and roads. We don't need wars for security, we need peace.

No mention of why the support rate has gone up. I suspect it's because the people who support Abe still think there's no one else better qualified for the job, which is a pretty poor reflection on a first world nation of 127 million people.
