American (and Nihonsei) propaganda NEVER mentions that Ukraine is in the midst of a CIVIL WAR. The eastern portions of the country have rejected the central government and have declared themselves independent political entities and that purposely confusing Western accounts of 'fighting and death in Ukraine' are Ukrainians fighting Ukrainians. Should Russia recognise these independent regions as separate states (as Britain would have done the southern U.S. in the U.S. Civil War had not RUSSIA intervened), sending 'assistance' would NOT be 'invasion' having been INVITED by the local authorities to provide such 'assistance'. Whatever the case here for 'intervention', the situation here is a bit more complex than just 'Russian aggression' as the, essentially, lies of the Western reporting suggest. I have no stake nor inclination here other than just hating the intentional misleading simplifications inherent in Western propagandistic 'news'...and it may even be that Russian intervention in the Eastern Ukraine stopping the current civil war could even 'save lives'...just sayin'

It best the Russian military do Putin end, than having to answer to the 10 of thousands unnecessary death on hand, Russia will not leave without a bloody nose, then again Putin would use his cyanide pill, he was prescribed as a spy and spare his country

first nato should stop arming ukraine, then maybe they can start talk

russia can do whatever they want inside their territory, as any other country in the world

Not sure that I see the logic in these two sentences. Yes, Russia can do whatever it wants in its borders, but why does this preclude other countries like NATO members and Ukraine from doing the same? NATO isn’t doing anything at all to interfere with the internal affairs of Russia, nor is Ukraine.

How about THEY defuse the Ukraine tensions? It is NATO, the US and the EU warmongers who are destabilizing the Ukraine

No, it is clearly Russia and their Donbas terrorist allies destabilizing the Ukraine.

(remember the US-financed Maidan coup?),

No. You or someone else made that all up to blame the US.

trying to put Nato missiles at Russias borders, and continue this stupid warmongering.

NATO already has two members with land borders with Russia so if they wanted missiles at Russia's borders, they would already be there.

Russian warmongering threatens peace for everyone in Europe and that is the fact.

Nato should be disolved, just like the Warsaw Pact was (which was actually the agreement with Gorbachev.

Another load of BS. There was never any such agreement signed or verbally agree to.

Russia would love a disbanded NATO while they keep CSTO going.

Such arguments are childish complaining that NATO has strength in numbers if any of them are attacked and that worries Russia day and night.

Russia built CSTO so NATO is going nowhere whether that Russian organization stays or disbands.

NATO protects its membership and that will remain for as long as Russia remains a clear nuclear threat and an autocratic nation. But go ahead and have a good cry about it.

@BurakuminDesu

Liz Truss is on the right .

Who's the man with the glasses standing next to the woman we can barely see thats Dmytro Kuleba ?

There's 6 people in the photo but only 5 are named.

They are celebrating the fact that they have "agreed to urge Russia to etc."

What a pathetic waste of time and money.

NATO needs to stay out of Ukraine and formally agree to do just that.

Exactly! Actually, Nato should be disolved, just like the Warsaw Pact was (which was actually the agreement with Gorbachev. Instead, this stupid "defense" (defense against who???) organization keeps on living and expanding, with no other purpose than warmongering these days.

What an upside-down picture. Accuse others of what you are doing yourself.... right out of 1984.

But who in the photo is the 6th person shielded from view ?

On Hayashi left side.

You can just barely see blond hair and a hand with white shirt.

Liz Truss, I believe.

I was demonstrating the fact the article and figures it shows are clearly biased.

I was just referencing it because it contains a comprehensive list of opinion polls conducted in Ukraine on the question of whether people are for or against joining NATO. These clearly show that the “for” NATO side has been consistently more popular than the “Against” side since 2014.

If you want me to believe your earlier assertion that “Even now opinion polls show the majority of the population is against NATO membership”, then show me some opinion polls which show that. The wikipedia article, biased or not, is providing evidence to directly support the opposite conclusion. If you can’t refute that with actual evidence then I have to conclude that you were lying about it.

I don’t really care what word they use to call the coup/revolution/whatever, I was just addressing your assertion that “Even now opinion polls show the majority of the population is against NATO membership” which seems to be incorrect.

Alex:

Yeah unlike the Americans that are itching for another war …. Wouldn’t it be great if they spent that money on the homeless, education or say fixing their crumbling infrastructure….

People like oh-so-caring Nancy Pelosi are also part of the problem. They're all talk. America inside has BIG problems and starting a war to 'unite' the country is not going to solve any of this.

It's funny how those who are desperate to start a war with Russia and China are those with major problems back home. They've either got elections coming up so they've got to ramp up the fear of the bogeyman (just like what South Korea is doing now), or they're trying to forget about cheese and wine parties and the lies that went with them.

UK's Liz Truss has been a total failure. Deaf and unprepared, she was told. And as soon as the temperature dropped by a degree, she put on her Russian hat in Moscow. No, you're not Thatcher, dear.

now opinion polls show

Once again anonymous posters with an agenda are using media to push information that may only exist in their imagination. While at the same time they complain about media being biased and even corrupt. A free press is key to maintaining democracies, too bad some from the anti-democracy herds are using a free press to try to undermine democracies.

Good one. I noticed they called the coup "an uprising" and "a revolution" rather than a coup. I also noticed polls in the same year in the same month go from a much larger % against to a much larger % for (NATO membership). Just goes to show Stalin was right when he said, "Those who cast the votes decide nothing. Those who count the votes decide everything."

Instead of showing me polls that back up your factual claim, you just start spouting a bunch of random speculation about Stalin would have done, which suggests you don’t have any facts to back up your claim and you were. So do you have any evidence to back up your claim, or can we just conclude you were making it up and move on?

Strange looking knuckle bump !

Cant even get that right !

Ukraines territorial integrity is an issue to be decided by the Ukraine and Russia and not NATO .

Look at the map .

Do you honestly believe putin would allow Ukraine to not become united with mother Russia in the future.

Its inevitable that Ukraine will become Russia .

Thats my opinion.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

It was probably inevitable with every country in the world being so dependent on burning huge amounts of gas and oil that the most aggressive countries with the largest reserves of oil and gas and militaries with thousands of nuclear weapons would be able to have the leverage the Russian Federation has.

Since when was the Ukraine problem about oil ? I guess if Russia was to create a military base in Cuba it will be accepted by U.S and it's allies and you will say it is about oil.

That used to be the case, but since the Russian takeover of Crimea and especially with the threat of Russian invasion looming over their heads for the past few months support for joining NATO has increased significantly.

The last time “Against” beat “For” joining NATO in polls in Ukraine was 2014:

Ukraine is not a pro-NATO country. Even now opinion polls show the majority of the population is against NATO membership. I know it's absurd to suggest NATO countries care what the majority of the population want but it'd be more accurate to say, "the coup regime in Ukraine is pro-NATO", not "Ukraine is pro-NATO".

@voiceofokinawa. US controlled NATO supported the Maiden riots that overthrew the democratically elected government, 2016 I think?

Russia and its allies have offered to send peacekeepers immediately to the Donbass border with Ukraine, in an effort to defuse the situation.

The ball is now in the UNSC court. Do they want peace or sell US gas to Europe?

No wonder so many rightists are anti-progressive, and want to stay in the fossil era, when their faction of the establishment controls most aspects of life.

Wrong! It’s not about wanting to stay, it’s about what we have and what is realistically sustainable and there are no long term alternate solutions that can replace fossil fuels and the environmentalists know it. Hopefully that day will come when we can truly say “goodbye” to fossil fuels.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

I always wonder if NATO didn't send agents to Ukraine in hordes, taking advantage of the confusion after the collapse of the Soviet Union, and turn it to a pro-NATO country.  If so, this must be a real cause for the explosive Ukrainian problem today.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

They should ban any Russian for 50 years from. entering the US, that participated in the invasion of Ukraine

G7 ministers agrees to urge Russia to defuse Ukraine tensions

I would have thought that was obvious. They needed a meeting to decide that?

4 ( +7 / -3 )

Russia has warned that it could take "military-technical measures" if the United States and its allies continue to reject Moscow's demand for security guarantees precluding Ukraine's entry into NATO.

It was probably inevitable with every country in the world being so dependent on burning huge amounts of gas and oil that the most aggressive countries with the largest reserves of oil and gas and militaries with thousands of nuclear weapons would be able to have the leverage the Russian Federation has.

Now leaders from around the world are paying attention to the modern era’s cross between Napoleon and John D. Rockefeller with a little George Bush (both former CIA director and his son) mixed in, Putin has learned through his years in the KGB to take control of the global Establishment and how to maintain control ,and has shown that he is willing to use his nation’s military forces to maintain his personal wealth.

Too bad for the Russian people that Putin has taken so much from his country and given so little back to the Russian people at least not the oligarchs. Putin is as bad or worse than the tsars before him. But given how popular Putin is with so many around the globe, especially those in the far right, maybe many rightist wing extremists have have not read much history, or maybe many of them want to return to the days when kings and tsars ruled over them. No wonder so many rightists are anti-progressive, and want to stay in the fossil era, when their faction of the establishment controls most aspects of life.
