Kono asks China to learn 'how to behave as big power'

not sure Japan are in a position to dispense advice on this topic....

"We felt that you were forced to fulfill a mission that the United States had given you," Wang said, apparently referring to Kono's earlier remarks regarding China's military buildup in the contested waters of the South China Sea.

The old lapdog argument we see here all the time. No, it couldn't possibly be that China is militarizing with a goal of controlling the entire South China Sea through which not just trade but energy lifelines traverse to Japan, South Korea, Taiwan. Philippines, etc etc. It is not in the world's interest to let China claim these vast international waters as their own in violation of international law.

Zinnggg!

Get em' Kono!

How to behave as a big power? I think Japan giving this advice is akin to a deaf person telling others how to appreciate music or a blind person teaching calligraphy. Well, being a big power doesn't entail being a yes-man to America and always looking for praises from other countries but being able to make your own decisions. I think these Japanese politicians are just getting tired at being unable to play catch-up with China even as they throw money away to other countries.

"Grow up and act your age". Sounds legit to me. China is flexing its military muscle and attempting to push its territories beyond it's mainland into the south seas as far as it can push.

All this dispute over who owns what and who has the rights I think is a pile of "dung". This is the way I think it should be, a Country's right should stop where the "low tide " stops! No Country should have any rights to where they think the boundary might be. A ship should have the right to pass any where, where there is Ocean Water.

Idiot.  Just encouraging China to embark on military adventures around the world, bully and cajole other countries both near and far, engage in trade wars, propose sanctions and so on.  Like the biggest power in the world is always doing.

Yeah China, grow up and act mature! Like Japan did in the 1930s or the US has since 1898...

Why do Japanese schools teach English as the second language. From many of the remarks, apparently Chinese and Japanese are the preferred languages of the future in Japan. Hello, it is the 21st century. Japan's 1946 philosophy of self defense, etc. probably will not protect its integrity.

China, a dictatorship, is acting like 1930s Imperial Japan, a dictatorship, right now in the 21st century. All while telling Japan to "learn from history". Kono is doing China a favor by telling them to act like the big power they claim to be. Unfortunately it would most likely take the ousting of the CCP dictatorship to achieve this.

China is not a big power... but their silent partner , the USA is.

Just ask Taiwan.

So Kono is barking at the wrong tree.

The this is many major countries have already stop behaving like big country. Behaving like a big country in the perception of general public is that always provide free tax for produce from small countries but own produce taxed heavily in small countries, provide technology transfer (seems as a must by small country), provide financial aids to small countries, provide humanitarian relief whenever a disaster happened while no help at all when disaster happen to big country, must allow breach of intellectual patents to small country. All these only one sided benefits that is why there is a calling throughout the world for making a natio great again. APEC have lost its biggest partner.

Look, I'm not a fan of the Chinese government (or yours, what with that excuse of a POTUS - congratulations!), but are you saying China is sending its army abroad and killing the local people, on the rampage, bayoneting innocent civilians, raping women and killing children, while carrying out experiments on living humans? No, I thought not. Stop with these vile and disgusting comments.

Japan definitely knows how to be a big power.

I didn't vote for that idiot. Wouldn't be surprised if you did though.

Of course not. My reference is to territorial expansion in Asia through illegal and military force. Guess who used to own all those islands in the South China Sea? Imperial Japan.
