Moreover, American analysts are already comparing that Kishida will meet with Pelosi and the President of South Korea decline to meet with Pelosi. I wonder how the American people will feel about that?

Yoon happens to be on vacation during her visit. Don't twist that into something it isn't.

talk about what?

Investment opportunities and other get-rich schemes?

Hopefully Nancy brought some pineapple cake from Taiwan as an omiyage. Everyone loves Taiwanese pineapple cake!

Free and open Indo-Pacific, yada, yada. We have been here before.

I wonder if Pelosi will tell Kishida about "President" Benjamin Franklin like she did in Taiwan...

3 ( +7 / -4 )

If China is outraged about pelosi, just imagine how Americans feel about her.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

I'll repeat what I wrote before. It was the U.S.'s mistake to break diplomatic relations with Taiwan to establish diplomatic relations with China. In so doing we have inherited a diplomatic mess and a possible humanitarian tragedy as witnessed by Hong Kong.

How wonderful would it be if Xi stopped trying to bully everyone around him.

Kishida and Pelosi are also expected to reaffirm their cooperation in ensuring a free and open Indo-Pacific, as part of efforts to counter China which is increasing its economic and military clout in the region, the sources aid.

Expect more expressions of joint support for the "rules based status quo" by the two neo-liberal oligarchs.

Pelosi is liberal even for the liberals. But I like her. I remember as a 6 or 7yo in the early 90’s taking a flight from DC to California. Pelosi was on board in economy class sitting next to us and my mother went crazy. And if I remember correctly Pelosi talked to me for over 3 hours about how a bill gets passed into law.

2 ( +8 / -6 )

Of course Kishida will want to hold talks with Pelosi, he has to earn his ‘Japan the international leader’ brownie points somehow!

Most people don’t understand how powerful she is. She’s been second in line for the presidency over multiple administrations. She can do whatever she wants. That’s why all Biden could say is he doesn’t think a Taiwan visit is a good idea.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

I'm no Pelosi fan, but it seems like she and the neolib establishment at least get foreign policy to some extent.

Spot on.

The neo-liberal and neo-conservative duopoly have always been united in their support for the military industrial complex; without a care in the world for the interests of the American people they are supposed to represent.

Personally I would take the basis concern for the American working people of AOC.

There is an empty conversation in the offing!

0 ( +9 / -9 )

Ready, most Americans are tone out of reality, they do not know Pelosi is gone

Asian Boss just released street interviews in China of their impression of Taiwan. Consider it your homework, China bashers!

China Boss is a pro-CCP shill and people in China are brainwashed in school, the news, online, and more. Plus they're afraid to speak out! It's like a slightly freer NK at this point.

Still, one would think that Pelosi's visit is a calculated move given that the Chinese are in the midst of their own "Lehman" moment. Lots of nervous homeowners in China and not just those with a mortgage. If China follows Japan's real estate bubble, many Chinese owners could see losses of over 50%,

For comparative purposes. the initial bailout for the USA real estate crisis was 700B but the current "known" China problem is north of 300B and we all know that the Chinese numbers are dodgy at best and are in all likelihood many times the figure reported in Chinese media.

I expect that social unrest in China will be a theme for the remainder of the year.

Thanks for nothing china, you had two chances and blew it

Why wouldn’t Kishida meet her? It would be political/ diplomatic suicide if he refused to meet her.

Most people don’t understand how powerful she is. She’s been second in line for the presidency over multiple administrations.

This is true. Scary that someone who received fewer votes in her local election than the attorney general for Colorado received in his ranks so highly in the government.

The position of Speaker of the House is another quirk of the US political system.

-1 ( +6 / -7 )

What is he “eyeing” a meeting ?

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

The next speaker will not be pro Japanese, every party members are entitled to their political point of view,AOC said she would not endorse Biden, this is political problematic

AOC and the rest of the cringe fringe/far left seem to know nothing about geopolitics or international relations. Look at Kamala, she thinks everyone will just be friends, like we're in kindergarten.

I'm no Pelosi fan, but it seems like she and the neolib establishment at least get foreign policy to some extent.

What's the purpose of U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's Asian tour and surprise visit to Taiwan first of all? To test China's nerves and make a fuss over the Taiwan Strait? Or to demonstrate her presence as the second in line to assume U.S. presidency after Vice President Kamala Devi Harris?

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

@voiceofokinawa

It’s none of those. You have to be smarter and more intelligent than that. Whom she visited other than Tsai will give you the answer. I’ll write and post something up tomorrow.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Nancy ain't no Karen.

She has both vintage and current credibility.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

quercetum (Aug. 4  05:41 pm JST),

I'm anxious to know how you will assess Pelosi's Asian tour.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Pelosi and her entourage came to Japan by military aircraft, which landed on U.S. Yokota Air Base in Tokyo. Apparently, they must have departed from U.S. Osan Air Base in Korea, thus making their tour look like patrolling their vast compound.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

The fly on the wall for that conversation would be looking for the nearest fly trap.

-2 ( +8 / -10 )

I'm sure Communist China will throw another toddler tantrum if this happens. They can just shut their mouths.

The Beijing fools are still "retaliating" against Taiwan by angrily firing rounds into the ocean! So scary! LOL

-2 ( +12 / -14 )

"Awww! But TAIWAN got to speak to her and look tough against China! We want to, TOO!"

-2 ( +10 / -12 )

Hilarious!

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

"The US side declared: The United States acknowledges that all Chinese on either side of the Taiwan Strait maintain there is but one China and that Taiwan is a part of China. The United States Government does not challenge that position. It reaffirms its interest in a peaceful settlement of the Taiwan question by the Chinese themselves." Shanghai Comminuqe, 1972.

It's not clear to me what Madame Pelosi and PM Kishida have much to talk about.

-3 ( +7 / -10 )

The next speaker will not be pro Japanese, every party members are entitled to their political point of view,AOC said she would not endorse Biden, this is political problematic

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

What’s a pelosi?

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

You have to respect her. She got Kishida CSC number from our credit card, on the back, three numbers.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

I know Japan has had to take orders from the imperial capital in Washington DC since August 1945, but does Kishida have to be quite so desparately obsequious?

-6 ( +4 / -10 )

Asian Boss just released street interviews in China of their impression of Taiwan. Consider it your homework, China bashers!

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

Well Played Mr. PM Well Played. The meeting with Pelosi will send a strong message to the world of two allies working together. Moreover, American analysts are already comparing that Kishida will meet with Pelosi and the President of South Korea decline to meet with Pelosi. I wonder how the American people will feel about that?

Again well played Mr. PM well played.

-7 ( +8 / -15 )

she does not have any authority what are they going to talk about?

Well, he doesn't have any authority either lol

-8 ( +14 / -22 )

Naive Japanese leaders, the speaker cannot conduct foreign policy

-10 ( +10 / -20 )

The little justice league circus can make all the drama they want, the ONE CHINA policy will go to the last consequences..

China will be ONE by 2049

The "western fake democracy" lovers club, can whine but this is unstoppable !!..Lol..

The Beijing fools are still "retaliating" against Taiwan by angrily firing rounds into the ocean! So scary! LOL

China already started economic sanctions against Taiwan, it does not need to fire a single shot to have Taiwan in its hands, the world will see it..

Less feelings and more facts..

;)

-10 ( +8 / -18 )

Talk about what?

Japan doesn’t even seem to be able to hold a position when Taiwan’s sovereignty is threatened by China-wishy washy!

-11 ( +8 / -19 )

Two utter crooks, Kishida and Pelosi.

Still, it makes Kishida seem relevant, I suppose.

-11 ( +8 / -19 )

What ever for? She has important things to do.
