Regarding North Korea, I am not convinced that embargoes which contribute to starvation among North Koreans are the best course of action. The dictator of NK will not suffer from the embargoes, but the people trapped in NK do.

Regarding USA, I'm convinced they pay a severe price for siege warfare against North Korea. Every day it plays out in poverty related violence, homelessness (of which there is none in North Korea), lack of affordable health care is the one they are really paying for now. Poor slobs are succumbing to coronavirus by the 1000s everyday.

Regarding negotiations with Putin, can a man who kidnaps, tortures, and murders people he doesn't like be trusted to negotiate in good faith?

Oh yeah, we're also heading for the end of the year, hence are going to have to go through the yearly waves of North Korean toy-boats poaching and sinking / ship-wrecking in Japanese waters. Increase the patrols to save these poor slobs and send them back.

Poor slobs? People working hard and risking their lives are 'poor slobs' now. If the running dogs of American imperialism ceased seige warfare on NK, the fisherman wouldn't need to do that.

Anyway, talking of 'poor slobs', maybe NK can send some doctors to USA to try and help Americans dropping dead of coronavirus by the 1000s each day due to poor diets, resulting obesity and the lack of affordable/accessible health care.

It seems to me it is the Russians who are burning to sign a peace treaty. I think Japan should simply ignore the Russians at least and until Vladimir Putin is gone. Then see what the next Russian government looks like before entering some preliminary confidential negotiations away from the public eye. Feel them out and see if there is a chance to achieve more favorable terms. When Pootie-Poo goes Russia may come apart at the seams. Maybe it is best to wait and see?

Russia already has installed a device that can broadcast EMP to cripple all of Japan, except for American bases

EMP is a bit over rated as a threat. The US conducts tests of all kinds of normal civilian systems for the effects of EMP. Most banks and big financial houses actually protect their data centers very well. Likewise major government facilities. Cars that are not running are not affected at all. About half the cars that are running are shut off but will restart and most suffer no defects from EMP. Because of all the concentrated electronics on cars and the necessity of shielding audio systems from static cars tend to be very well protected. What suffers are computers attached to long unprotected wire runs. The wire runs act like an antenna for the EMP. So effects, yes, but not the disaster often claimed.

No islands? No peace treaty with murderous Putin. It's rather simple.

You are continuously missing the point (maybe focusing too much on cliches?) Russia doesn't care about the peace treaty if it's on Japan's terms.

No islands? No peace treaty with murderous Putin. It's rather simple.

The decision is being taken in Washington as they are the only one's who benefit and they do it at the detriment of Japan. Russia is another beneficiary. Gives them a perfect excuse to reject any territorial concessions with Japan.

The decision the US regime has made means no territorial concessions from Russia to Japan. It's that simple.

A good thing you are not running Japan's foreign policy! What a disaster that would be.

I guess another member of the anti-Japan brigade did not bother reading the article, or struggled for comprehension -

Asked about the key declaration, Kishida told the press Japan's policy remains unchanged that it will "clarify the attribution issue of the four islands and conclude a peace treaty."

Japan's policy is unchanged.

If Japanese right-wingers are in power, Russia is going to take Hokkaido for a price. The US commits to defense Japan if it gets attacked not Japanese right-wingers lead their own armies to attack someone else.

I hate the Abe dynasty to the Kishida dynasty but they all have a brain unlike Japanese right-wingers and most of the ignorant Japanese population.

Putin - return Japans 4 islands and only then you get your peace, and possible big trade benefits thereafter.

A good thing you are not running Japan's foreign policy! What a disaster that would be.

You genuinely think Japan will/should choose totalitarian, murderous Russia and genocidal Commie China over the US? A good thing you are not running Japan's foreign policy! What a disaster that would be.

I genuinely think Japan should be neutral from the murderous, warmongering, ultra reactionary, failing US regime and send their occupation forces away forever even if it means they have to swim to Hawaii.

Should have a balanced relationship with by far it's biggest trading partner (China). The country whose economy would suit Japan perfectly as in lots of mineral resources and a huge potential market for Japanese consumer goods along with high technology in areas Japan is lacking (rocketry, space travel, nuclear engineering).

And once the occupation forces are nothing but a bad memory, with USA as well. Not sure what USA has to offer. Maybe high quality pornography? Even that is terrible compared its competitors in Hungary and Czech Republic. Japan sells much more to China but still sells a lot to USA. The US$ is in its twilight but until the sun sets on it completely, Japan is better off having a decent relationship with USA as well.

Japan has to drop the demand for all 4 islands. Stop calling any of them Japanese territory. Tell right-wing American lapdogs in government to STFU or be sacked. Then approach the Russians, tell them respectfully and humbly Japan's position, and ask for 2 back.

Japan urgently needs to distance itself from the failing US Empire and restore relations with Russia and China

The only winner out of no peace treaty is USA. The biggest loser is Japan. Pretty much sums up the relationship between the occupier and the occupied.

Japan has to drop the demand for all 4 islands. Stop calling any of them Japanese territory. Tell right-wing American lapdogs in government to STFU or be sacked. Then approach the Russians, tell them respectfully and humbly Japan's position, and ask for 2 back. While providing caveats about no weapons more than assault rifles allowed on the 2 for at least 50 years.

This is the only way Japan can get anything. Even that is doubtful but it's the only chance.

Further down the track, Japan urgently needs to distance itself from the failing US Empire and restore relations with Russia and China. Hopefully the two Koreas as well but I think that relationship has less to do with the occupation forces and US regime.
