Sure the whole world will follow that pledge, right?

"I pledge to blurt a few platitudes..." well.... that changes everything. phew! a narrow escape for humanity, thanx to Mr. K.

-3 ( +14 / -17 )

If Kishida is going to make pledges then he should first take the scandal ridden LDP to task for ignoring the laws of Japan!

10 ( +19 / -9 )

Why every seemingly Japanese audience member is wearing a mask?

-12 ( +7 / -19 )

This is a complete fantasy.

Weak countries like Russia, N. Korea, Pakistan, will never give them up. That time has passed, and the ship has sailed.

Japan has no voice on such issues since we don't even have Nuclear Weapons in the first place. USA should have started the process to ban such weapons with USSR collapse. Weak countries are empowered by such weapons and can cause massive damage even to a powerful military like the USA in the future.

-3 ( +5 / -8 )

Join the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons then. Simples.

4 ( +14 / -10 )

Japan allows the US nuke subs to have them here in Japan. Every prime minister makes this same empty pledge. Meanwhile he's blasting the military buildup here at the same time.

3 ( +10 / -7 )

A world without nukes is an impossible utopia and even more impossible being the lapdog of a country that has a world full of nuclear warheads and cowardly attacked your country with two atomic bombs in 1945...

-4 ( +5 / -9 )

Mr Fumio Kishida, Prime Minister of Japan, contemporary nuclear powers of the world will need more than talk to get rid of their thousands upon thousands of nuclear weapons that are ready to reduce all flesh and blood creatures and greenery on planet Earth into radio-active dust that will be blown miles up into space to block out the health-giving light and warmth of our Sun. And by that time, who and what on planet Earth will need the healthy rays and warmth of our Sun? All living creatures and all greenery on planet Earth will be gently settling down on planet Earth for a well deserved rest for ever. And ever.

His "vision"? Who really cares? It's never going to happen, and he's naïve as hell to think it will!

-6 ( +5 / -11 )

Oh yes Japan does have Nuclear weapons and also chemical and biological weapons even tho the swear they don't.

Prove it! Your words alone carry no weight nor do you have any credibility either.

-8 ( +2 / -10 )

Like every PM before him, Kishidas vision has absolutely no clout, being the puppet of the only government that actually dropped atomic bombs on his own country.

-9 ( +5 / -14 )

"I would like to thoroughly explain to the public through parliamentary debates with opposition parties" about the tax hikes, Kishida said.

Explain with debates with opposing parties what you’ve already decided to do...

That doesn’t sound like a debate, or an explanation to me...

All these globalists are dictators that pretend your views matter, but in truth while they’re in place, they don’t.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

For a leader that want peace, this sure like to play with fire,as they old adage go,he who play with fire , always end up burnt,

-6 ( +5 / -11 )

So why are they on US bases, ships and sub mines all over Japan, and he just gave USA sovereignty over a strategic island area in Kagoshima that will likely host nuclear bombers?

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

@Zizi

Because they think surgical masks are effective. lol

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

nd he just gave USA sovereignty over a strategic island area in Kagoshima that will likely host nuclear bombers?

No he didnt. You need to go back to the article you are referring to and reread it at least two or three times more, or at least until you understand what it says.

Building a runway or base, is NOT handing over sovereignty.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

He loves to play the I'm from Hiroshima card.

Awful awful man

-6 ( +6 / -12 )

Kishida such a transparent clown playing the Hiroshima card if you really mean it you could have said it to Biden's face.

Building a runway or base, is NOT handing over sovereignty.

No way to hand something over if you haven't actually had it from the start.,, LDP was made by the US to begin with.

Kishida pledges to pitch vision of world without nuclear weapons at G7

I’d rather have a country that had decent pay and acceptable amounts of paid days leave.

How about starting with that first, Kish?

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

Some people are not going to like this. Kishida and Japan have little that they can really claim moral leadership on, except the abolition of nuclear weapons. Joining with others in the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons dilutes this presumed leadership and compromises Japan's reliance on the US' nuclear umbrella. Thus, Kishida and Japan inhabit a kind of moral nomansland, otherwise known as hypocrisy. But beyond that, being a victim, especially of uncomprehending and belligerent outsiders, the natural world, criminals - anything that can be characterised as not of (the real) Japan - is part of the ideology of the country that serves to explain the country to itself. Victims have moral authority and cannot be blamed, and victim of the bomb in 1945 serves to absolve Japan of so many responsibilities. So keeping this victimhood visible is paramount, without really ever wanting to have to do anything about the moral imperative in question.

In a perfect world…..

Will Russia, China & N. Korea ever agree to this?

Kishida pledges to pitch dream of world without nuclear weapons at G7

>

0 ( +2 / -2 )

"world without nuclear weapons" that Kishida who more stimulates arms race at far-east Asia dogmatically without even democratic process and who expanded to depend on nuclear power with valuing beneficiaries of nuclear industries say has no persuasive.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

I apologize for revealing that Japanese government has nuclear capacity and I’m thankful I don’t live in some countries that have death penalties or torture imprisonments for revealing this.

I love japan, but not as a USA state.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

world without nuclear weapons

Let's hope that he stands behind those words. On 27 February 2022, Abe proposed that Japan should consider a nuclear sharing arrangement with the US similar to NATO. So, with Abe out of the picture, Kishida should in theory be able to push his anti-nuke agenda...

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Please,please,please.

Such absent words while Japan remains a non-signer of the NPT.

Lip service once again.

Where is the substance in Japan?

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Halting development of weapons of mass destruction is akin to reversing the invention of the wheel.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida noble efforts, best be focused on a Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Isn't the treaty meant only to prevent other countries from acquiring nuclear capabilities?

Countries with nuclear weapons just keep adding to their stockpiles

1 ( +1 / -0 )

I've a better suggestion for you yubaru - why don't you first find out if my announcement is correct before just blatantly ignorantly saying it's not true.

There are some incredibly ignorant people in this world. Thanks for helping me understand that.

The burden of proof is on the person who made the assertion, anyone and everyone knows it, with the exception of you it seems.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yes Ian, quite correct, I sadly suggest prevention is the only viable course of action.

Not totally convinced of that.

I doubt if the nuclear powers will relinquish there weapons.

That before attempting a method of independent verification.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I doubt if the nuclear powers will relinquish there weapons.

I'm not even talking about relinquishing.

The problem is they are actively adding to and upgrading the stockpiles blatantly disregarding the treaty while at the same time enforcing it to suppress others

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Yes Ian, adding and developing a next generation of hell on earth, who needs the devil, an appetite for destruction?

The Government of Japan its people are one of the only nations that has a constitution devoted to peaceful coexistence with there neighbours.

Defend not defeat.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida can legitimately claim the moral high ground.

Persuasion and trust in a world stuck at a crossroads.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

These days nuclear weapons are mostly used for intimidation. As Noam Chomsky suggested, it's an equivalent of robbing a store at a gun point. The robber doesn't really intend to shoot...

Having said that, wouldn't it be great if countries that do have nuclear weapons stopped threatening others?

Mr. Kishida should make a point of this at G7. Stop using nuclear weapons as a threat to achieve global dominance. People should not live in constant fear of each other! Those who are collaborating with these countries are accomplices and will always live in fear.

Living in fear is really bad for health!

There must be a way to get rid of nuclear weapons and nobody else except Japan can really speak from experience of why this is so important.

In effect Mr Kishida is sending this message, however the message should clearly state where and who is in charge of these weapons and intimidation tactics.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Japan NEVER and shall never signing the Nuclear Test Ban treaty. Such hypocrisy was for his own image charming use in Japan.
