As COVID cases increase, the popularity of political leaders decrease. We’ve seen this play out again and again around the world over the past two years.

17.7 percent said they trust the prime minister and 8.6 percent said they pin their hopes on the government's economic policies.
Quite a ringing endorsement. For oligarchs like the LDP, the mass disillusionment and disengagement from politics works in their favor.
You see the same in other G7 countries, though some countries (New Zealand, the Nordic nations) engender more good will with their populations as they do not obviously seem to regard their populations as expendable human resources to enrich the "elite".

The clock is ticking. I doubt he'll make it much past this year.

The current rising covid rates are under kishida’s watch and a response is required, just burying his head in the ground and hoping it goes away isn’t doing much..
Michael Machida
Closing the border of Japan got him thumbs up by the people of Japan. Great tactic!

That was sarcasm.

@Michael
Shortage of caregivers and line work will be the next problem in 3 years then.

My wife received a call for this survey and they disqualified her for it as she had not voted for LDP. So be sure this is only a survey for those who voted for them. It is a worthless survey.

Great to see the rise of the reformers of Ishin, and the demise somewhat of Komeito, and the ever dismal results of the communists. There is this place I know with JCP posters stuck to the outside, and the house itself is a total dilapidated wreck. No thanks.
Both my wife and I have been phoned up for surveys in recent years.
One thing I thought strange is that my wife and I would both suddenly get called for the survey, and not just once. So how random is the sampling?
Second thing is I am not even a voter :)

How many Japanese under 40 have landline telephones? I'm guessing it's a greater percentage than in the US, but that always seems to me to be a factor in polls conducted by telephone. If they're conducting polls to landline numbers, and only Granny still has one, it likely isn't very representative.

Yes, if anything, the burden of proof should be on polling companies to show that they are truly fair and independent, not on skeptics assuming that they are not.
If you have the money, its not difficult to set up an "independent" thinktank or research group and get yourself in the media to push a certain political position without anyone mentioning or questioning the aims of your organization.

So are we gearing up towards the annual rotating door of prime ministers? Steady declines of popularity followed by a resignation?

"Kishida has said the government aims to give third shots to senior citizens at a faster pace and begin the booster program for others in March, earlier than previously planned."
Wasn't Japan bragging under Suga that they had the fastest vaccination system in the world, boasting it was better than Europe, the US, and more? And yet, once again, they have delayed, delayed, delayed, and while much of the rest of the world has seen many people get their boosters and are even talking about fourth shots, they once again have BARELY started! Talk about never learning from your mistakes!

Can't agree more with you,but hey you know how things work here.
Japan read the numbers in it's own way,the propaganda is always good at twisting them and throw the book at someone else like the foreigners.
This PM is another Nippon Kaigi affiliate and he's behaving and doing as expected for a man from such area/

The government response and the current fear pushing by the media are designed to do what?
The message to stay at home?
The message that an infected person can simultaneously infect six others at a time? (Just seen it on the box)
The next scene was an ambulance in attendance somewhere.
Fear and panic day after day?
Well, that is not the answer.
That message has been in use for two years plus and it’s leading the ordinary Japanese into financial dire straits.

Kishida is useless, BUT he is better than the last 2 muppets that came before him. So there's that.

Soooo, the go-to magic pill of the government here of “blame the gaijin” is beginning to wear off?
