What a waste of taxpayer money, Japan is not a part of NATO, it doesn't have an army, it's under both Russian (Northern Territories) and American occupation, it does not have any valuable resources and on top of that he can't even communicate well as he doesn't even speak English. What is he going for?

People need to look things up fisrt before posting nonsense.

Japan's SFD is rated number 6 in the world.

The 4 Northern islands are under illegal occupation by Russia.

The US occupation of Japan ended in 1952. It would have ended in 1947 if not for the USSR.

"NATO and Japan have been engaged in dialogue and cooperation since initial contacts in the early 1990s. Japan is one of a number of countries beyond the Euro-Atlantic area – often referred to as “partners across the globe” – with which NATO is developing relations."

https://www.nato.int/cps/en/natohq/topics_50336.htm

Kishida speaks English sufficiently enough to attend international forums and meetings which all have translators available. Neither Vladimir Putin nor Xi Jing Ping are fluent in English either.

Unlike my students, just pronounce it right, it ain’t a soy snack..

NATO in Japanese is ナトー which is how they would read it in Romaji.

The fermented soybeans are not a ”snack" and it is pronounced ナット― Nattou.

I hope you are learning some Japanese while you're "teaching " English. Please get them to pronounce Pizza as Pizza, not Pisa like the city.

NATO should have disbanded when the Warsaw Pact did.

It is time for NATO to evolve into a world wide defense alliance. There would be many nations that would immediately line up to join. A sensible move by Japan's PM.

2 ( +11 / -9 )

I think it is a good idea.

2 ( +12 / -10 )

Isn't NATO causing enough problems without Japan, with it's alliance with the rogue state of the USA pretending to be of any significance.

-6 ( +8 / -14 )

No need to attend, Mr Kishida. Japan should stay away from the war being fought between goons and thugs.

Peter14,US is NATO,the US is having problems with the Summit de Americas, maybe Kishida can attend it to make it respectable Google Summit Of Americas No Shows

Peter14,US is NATO,

No, it isn't. NATO is more Western Europe. The US has one vote among many. It is the largest single member but that is all.

So we’re joining Nato? Good

-1 ( +6 / -7 )

Japan isnt an official member of NATO primarily due to its pacifist constitution (if you can still call it that) which is rapidly changing soon.

However because of Japan's security agreement with the USA Japan is part of the NATO extended family.

So the USA wants Japan to stand on its head and bend over to attend the meeting as a non official member and put a feather in its cap !

With Biden at the helm we can expect some sort of useless woopie cushion announcement that the white house will backpeddle .

@peter14

It is time for NATO to evolve into a world wide defense alliance

That's ridiculous and completely not possible because the whole world aren't allies.

Besides it's completely obvious to observe that NATO has instigated more conflicts than solved any through diplomacy .

PT,US has the most troops and weapon ,on Nato soil as a whole,do you think Russian fear Bulguria, Estonia,Latina ,you figure

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

Maybe Japan will join NATO too. It’ll give NATO an excuse to circle the globe with their warped sense of protection.

-5 ( +5 / -10 )

Correction Bulgaria,Lativa

@OssanAmerica

Unfortunately what you researched and the ratings you so eagerly believe are only one viewpoint so i wouldn't be too exacting because you know how to research with Google and Wikipedia.

The proof is in the pudding .

Ask not how the US is gonna protect you,Ask how your leaders are gonna protect their flexless selves

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida must have a clear defence policy, a plan of action beyond self preservation when the government of china has hostile intent.

Ministry of Defence

https://www.mod.go.jp/en/

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida must present at the NATO summit a clear political agenda, not as a spectator, but as a force to be reckoned with.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Russia is occupying Japan illegally, yet the SDF, rated number 6 in the world, is not fulfilling its duty of defending Japan.

What good is being number 6 if you don’t even try to defend your country.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, must push for full support across the board for APAC.

Russia government is committing the most appalling war crimes.

it is only a matter of time for the government of China, it's genocide against its Uyghur population, to threaten the people of Japan, its territory, East China Sea.

If Prime Minister Fumio Kishida attends this NATO summit, the weasel words and platitudes have to stop and solid commitments of action forthcoming.

Kishi San, this is pathetic, waste of money and time going with that circus..

What a waste of taxpayer money, Japan is not a part of NATO, it doesn't have an army, it's under both Russian (Northern Territories) and American occupation, it does not have any valuable resources and on top of that he can't even communicate well as he doesn't even speak English. What is he going for?

The language thing is solved with translators, the rest is all the truth...

NATO should replace UN

Better to continue with globalists than change them for terrorists, no thanks..

Russia is occupying Japan illegally

Erm, no Russia isn't.

So how do we say to occupy a territory without anyone's permission and in the middle of a war?..

Pathetic..

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Nice to know that Japan is concerned about what happens on the other side of the world around the Atlantic Ocean!

What next?

Perhaps, he will be attending the next SELA meeting as well or FIFA?

Kishida will be taking the two jetliners to Europe as usual - no virtue signaling there for sure…

PT,US has the most troops and weapon ,on Nato soil as a whole,do you think Russian fear Bulguria, Estonia,Latina ,you figure.

US forces in Europe are a small fraction of the NATO total. There are currently 105,000 US service members from all branches, Army, Navy and Air Force in Europe. The Italian Army alone has 260,000 troops and the French Army has another 205,000. Their air forces and navies are likewise substantial. The US brings with it certain capabilities other NATO nations do not possess such as E-8 and EC-135 Rivet Joint aircraft and big long range bombers but in terms of manpower the US is not the biggest player in NATO.

FYI, Japan is sitting on enough rare earth metals to supply the world's needs for centuries. They are on the seafloor inside Japan's EEZ off the coast of the Ogasawara Islands

Russia is occupying Japan illegally, yet the SDF, rated number 6 in the world, is not fulfilling its duty of defending Japan.

The USSR/Russia invaded and occupied the 4 islands in 1945.

The JSDF wasn't even created until 1950,

The J-Constitution First Paragraph of Article 9 prohibits the use of military force to resolve territorial disputes.

You could look all this up very easily.

That's ridiculous and completely not possible because the whole world aren't allies.

I did not suggest the whole world would join it. It needs to be open to nations around the world to join it rather than just a regional defense alliance.

Besides it's completely obvious to observe that NATO has instigated more conflicts than solved any through diplomacy .

I call total BS on that statement.
