Abe himself said over and over that Korean Gov't is not trustworthy. Therefore it's preposterous to have a military treaty for which mutual trust is a prerequisite.

Scrap the treaty. Japan can and will do just fine without it.

Brilliantly opined, Jeff Ko. Japan should not cooperate with South Korea in any capacity. No joint exercise, no intelligence sharing, nothing . Japan does not need to communicate with untrustworthy nations. Perhaps in 10-20 years IF SK stop being a puppet of Communist China.

All South Korea has to do is hand over the export information that Japan has been requesting. No need to go crying to the US, UN, WTO, their collective omomis, or even blackmail the United States. This begs the question of why the Moon adnministration is prepared to do anything but provide the export information.

It would be an admission of his foolishness.

Japan is better off without such an agreement with SKorea who has proven that it just can't be trusted.

12 ( +20 / -8 )

The thing is US wants it badly that's y. Or US n it's allies should forget SK n start developing NK sans KJU they can remove him

Dear S. Korea

GSOMIA is an intelligence pact to share information which you benefit equally or more by having access to dozens of Japanese satellites monitoring North.

Japan needs to escalate since S. Korea is going back on all agreements and promises made to normalize relations and to settle the past.

Giving even an inch to Korea will only fuel the fire and determination to always act that way to get what they want from Japan.

Stop whining, and your tantrum SKorea! and just make up your mind NOW which side of the fence

you are raising your flag. Don't you just use Japan as your excuse. Idiots!

"Japanese Defense Minister Taro Kono urged his South Korean counterpart Jeong Kyeong Doo to reconsider Seoul's decision to terminate the three-year-old General Security of Military Information Agreement."

Kono: 'Look, Korea... we want you to act sensibly and do as we please, and reverse your decision, because it's really not up to you -- it's up to us. Oh, and we are not in any way, shape, or form going to rethink or change our illegal exports policy, nor will we ever apologize formally for past atrocities. Listen to us or it will be regrettable!"

showchinmono: "Stop whining, and your tantrum SKorea! and just make up your mind NOW which side of the fence"

Not SK whining, bud, incase you missed it that it's Japan BEGGING to be kept in on the security issues, and Japan that suffers when they are left out. Korea doesn't need to share info with Japan on NK, not at all. Japan can rely on its faulty rocket announcements.

"you are raising your flag. Don't you just use Japan as your excuse. Idiots!"

Once again, back at you, bud. It's not SK trying to change its Constitution to be more war-mongering, it's the leaders of Japan. It's not SK denying past aggression, it's a great number of Japanese. It's not SK paying homage to war criminals at shrines, it's Japan's lawmakers and leaders.

@smiyhinjapan

Move on. The rest of the world did.

15 ( +20 / -5 )

All South Korea has to do is hand over the export information that Japan has been requesting.

And all Japan needs to do is accuse South Korea of export violations WITHOUT giving evidence? Hypocritical don’t you think?

South Korea has shown there were no export violations to North Korea. The onus is on Japan to provide the evidence which it has refused to date.

And if you really want to believe in the fake Abenarratives, there are over 100 materials exported from Japan to South Korea that are classified as sensitive materials used for developing WOMD. If South Korea was untrustworthy, why has Japan only chosen the three items used for semi conductor production to go through the manual approval process, and status quo (fast track approval) for all other sensitive items despite being delisted? Any logical government would make sure all sensitive materials go through the manual approval process.

Its not rocket science that Abe wanted to target South Korea’s core sector, and not because of his concern for national security.

Move on. The rest of the world did.

Wrong. A nation that does not truthfully reflect on its past is not a nation that has moved on.

Japan wants to influence South Korean legal decisions made by its courts?

Sorry, that is a colonialist mentality and South Korea is no longer one...

-15 ( +3 / -18 )

@Jeff Ko

Scrap the treaty.

GSOMIA's not a treaty. Unless you are talking about scrapping the 1965 Treaty.

Japan can and will do just fine without it.

Japan won't be doing fine after the GSOMIA is over, I assure you that.

I always find the "we're talking our ball and going home and you'll be angry" argument to be... useless.

When someone did that when we were kids, we laughed at them.

Dream on basu baba it ain't gonna happen Japan don't Ned Gmania it's US n SK should solve her domestic problem with their domestic court decision n they can't change international treaties with their domestic court ruling. The proof for export control is the SK ship seized bt US n Lastly it's foolish Neighbor like SK is aiding Abe administration to change Japans constitution

The proof for export control is the SK ship seized bt US

Give source.

Lastly it's foolish Neighbor like SK is aiding Abe administration to change Japans constitution

That’s right, blame it on others.

Abe wants to change the constitution to (1) finish off what his grandfather failed to do, (2) remove article 9 as it represents Japan’s shameful failure in WW2, (3) write off Japan’s debt because it will never be able to repay it with its crumbling economy.

You renounced war forever when you lost and now you’re re-arming to start one. Typical Abe for backtracking on international promises. What a hypocrite!

-14 ( +1 / -15 )

Talking one sided, will not get any results.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

Two winners from these arguments. China and North Korea. They don't care who is right or wrong, only that the dispute continues.

Two losers from these arguments are Japan and South Korea. Both believe they are right and the other is wrong.

Solution is to compromise and not let China and North Korea be the winners. That means compromise from BOTH sides. Get it done or be ridiculed by almost every other nation, friend and foe alike.

@Hillclimber

Well said! Both ethnic Koreans like Smith and Tom Doley wouldn't be able to come back without any whine or tantrum.

Agree that should be the main objective. But there really is nothing that Japan can compromise. All it is asking for is export information that would allow keeping South Korea on their White List. It is South Korea alone that has put the US-JPN-SK alliance in jeopardy by making this a security issue. The only nation that is ridiculed for it's unecessary and ineffective actions is South Korea.

9 ( +11 / -2 )

Silence of US UN n WTO is the proof of SK's deed n with a hostile neighbors Abe gets closer to change the constitution. Lastly third biggest economy minus external debt makes Japan numero uno in economy. Keep on burning with jealousy SK n whine n complain bt only the wrong doers get in their behind a great serving of leather whip n stick. Just a few more months SK economy will fail n American sanctions will turbo charge it's pace

Actually three winners, China, NK, and ROK.

Japan alone is the loser because Japan can no longer see incoming ballistic missiles after the radar feed cut off from Korea.

@OssanJapan

But there really is nothing that Japan can compromise.

Of course it's very easy to compromise, lift the export control and everything is back to what it was.

-12 ( +0 / -12 )

You're accusing Japan of accusing South Korea of export violations without evidence. Where's your evidence?

You must be using a Huawei phone without google apps. Now, as previously requested, how about you provide the evidence that South Korea exported sensitive items TO North Korea that you keep babbling on about?

South Korea has NOT replied to Japanese requests for the end-user information concerning the sensitive materials that can be used for weapons manufacture, for over 3 years. That is why Japan removed South Korea from the trusted fast tracked export approvals list... for only 3 items to start with. There are more which Japan is yet to implement. Call it giving benefit of the doubt FAR beyond what anyone else would deem fair enough.

Benefit of the doubt? So because it’s a maybe, they start off with 3 items? Pathetic contradictory lame excuse.

You don't seem to want to understand, or believe, how ultimately LENIENT Japan has been with South Korea since 1965. If you did, you would totally understand why the South Koreans have grown so confident that they can just twist Japan's arm and get a psoitive result for themselves and a negative result for Japan. For a direct opposite example of this see Japan-Taiwan relations over the same period.

Whatever.

Well said! Both ethnic Koreans like Smith and Tom Doley wouldn't be able to come back without any whine or tantrum.

So if we supported Japan, you’ll classify us as foreigners? Hypocrite.

Lastly third biggest economy minus external debt makes Japan numero uno in economy.

Keep dreaming that those debts will disappear.
