Japan's response is reasonable so far. Calm is the most important way in dealing with neighbours. Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corp or Japanese govt can compensate the demand based on humanity reasons. Or China, Japan and SK can establish a third party agency to deal with this kind of situations. Northeast Asia has sufficient resources to smooth history disputes out, based on one culture, one people and one future.

I hope S. Korea will do it.

Moon is fearful of a coup, and is trying to win votes. Also, Communist China , number 1 ally of SK, has ordered Seoul to start seizing Japanese assets. SK has become a puppet regime of PRC. Japanese government will soon order all Japanese companies to withdraw from SK, if these attacks continue.

Ganbare Japan!, the close relationship between SK and China isn't started yesterday. Historically it was one nation and it is still one people.

There are no living plaintiffs who can file damages lawsuit against Mongolia.

Such isn't the case with the victims of Imperial Japan.

This will not end well if Korea goes down this path.

Japan could turn around and file suit in Japanese, seeking compensation in return and demanding that the Japanese government seize Korean assets in Japan in return.

Unfortunately, the Korean Supreme Court has created a situation where there will be more and more of these cases in Korea.

I have all of them multiple times, they are unquesitonably distinct, the people are proud of their nations, most want to work with the global community to have better lives, economies and more freedom, and other than Hong Kong, many of those residents not happy with China, are unquestionably independent, and I hope they remain so.

Even if its true that historically one country had a larger territory or not, so what, you want to rewind to a time where a China (that doesn't exist anymore given the current administrations recent creation) had more to claim, well how about we rewind to when Mongolia ruled most of China, or dare I say more recently to when Japan did... Absurd right. Just as your claim.

Just this week China now with its dictator talking to the dictator from NK, scheming to ruin peace, freedom and prosperity for this region of the world. Be careful people.

South Korea is much more similar to Japan than it is China, and I hope Japan and South Korea can find a way to move their crucial relationship forward, pay respect to the survivors of undoubtedly unpleasant and difficult times, without continuing any Anti-Japan sentiment. Its tough I know, and the current politicians in both places are a little too bull headed to make progress all to the glee of China.

Japan should stop access to the crude oil reserve stocked in Okinawa as retaliation. ROK has no reserve of their own and rely 100% on Japan.

Japan can stop export of various strategic material that ROK industries needs to keep their companies moving like rare gas. Japan should also stricken immigration on ROK expats seeking jobs in Japan on tourist visas.

Keep it up until they comply to settle it at ICJ.

Japan needs to formally demand settlement at the ICJ. The precedent SK's action sets can influence countless treaties and agreements between sovereign nations throwing the world into turmoil.

The United States needs to start thinking about pulling our troops out of SK and terminating our defense agreement. Time for SK to decide whether they are with us, or aligned with China and NK.

@ Ossan - well said again. The USA should remove all troops from SK and restation them in Okinawa. Trump will be furious at Moons actions against USAs number one ally. SK cannot be trusted. They are a puppet government of communist China, and Japan and USA should cease all trade and relations with SK. Permanently. I suspect Moon is a secret Communist, and USA and Japan do not deal with Communists.

Bob Woodward's book "Fear" explains why the US must stay in Korea at all cost, even at the cost of handing over the wartime command of US troops to the Korean general, the only place on earth where the US troops are commanded by a foreign general in wartime. 

Time for SK to decide whether they are with us, or aligned with China and NK.

The ROK is aligned with the US, and that's it. Just like how Japan is aligned with the US but not to the ROK.

And Okinawans might as well declare independence and kick all US and Japanese troops out, since there isn't enough room for existing US troops in Okinawa much less 28K additional ones and their family members.

Now imagine 70K US troops moving to mainland Japan because Okinawa has declared independence. Good luck with that.

Doesn't work like that. An asset seizure is only possible after a trial conviction for wrongdoing.

Nippon Steel and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries assets are being seized because they were found to be liable for damages resulting from wartime forced labor.

What wrongdoing will Japan charge Korean companies of, being Korean? Sorry, doesn't work like that.

The US is considering to pull out of ROK regardless of the FCR incident as you can see below.

The relationship between ROK and the US is going south every minute and if drastic measures are not taken the US will most certainly pull out.

Samsung - which accounts for 17% of the Korean economy (wow!) - has announced major revenue shortfalls, Hyundai is not doing well and as of 2017, the youth unemployment rate in SK was around 10%.
