It will last about the about two years.

I enjoy the picture on this post.

It’s like grown kids trading old relic and out of date wooden trading blocks, instead of Pokémon cards.

You forgot to add the word “temporary” measure to settle, only until the current government is voted off in another 4 years. Yoon’s government only won by a marginal

Some simple facts regarding this case:

Number one, time you just get over it. Yes, you've been brainwashed your whole life into believing Japan bad. But the war ended close to a century ago.

Number two, Japan and Korea are allies now.

And number three, far right nationalists shed a tear every time good news like this come out, but everyone else happy.

Any settlement should require Japan actually telling the truth about history, stopping all the euphemisms like "comfort women" and changing it to sex slaves, which they were, or comments like, "Japan taught people how to take baths and read and write! It was wonderful, and everyone loved Japan. Anything bad that happened was not the IJA's fault, but that of the local people who were ungrateful for the employment opportunities Japan provided".

BS. Any settlement should require South Korea, especially self-proclaiming so-called victims and disgusting NGO like Chong Dae Hyup actually telling the truth about history, stopping all the euphemisms like "comfort women" and changing it to "prostitutes", which they were, OR all the dysphemism like "sex slave" and Keeping it to comfort women, which had been a Korean Language "IAN-FU" even through Korean War, taking down all the statues all over the world which have been spewing nothing but lies

@Farmboy

the people who fought it are mostly in the great beyond.

Yes, but not the plaintiffs in this case who lived though the atrocities of Imperial Japan.

I hope they can be successful,

The only way this could be successful is

1) Defendant companies pay into the contribution fund

2) Defendant companies issue written apologies for their forced conscription.

The plaintiff's lawyer speaking to the press he rejects Yoon's plan and will see through the liquidation of assets.

It won't even take 4 years.

This deal cannot stop the asset liquidation order trial at the supreme court, so the asset liquidation order(the only possible legal outcome) could come out as soon as the end of this year.

The only way to stop the asset liquidation order is a codification of Yoon's proposal, which cannot happen because the party with the supermajority at the Parliament is calling Yoon a traitorous criminal to history.

@Mark

but I doubt if this issue will ever be put to rest!!!

It can't even stop the ongoing asset liquidation trials which will now proceed as Yoon's mediation effort failed. Yoon's allies in the parliament are scheduled to introduce a bill to codify Yoon's agreement so that it can have a legally bidding effect, but it has a zero chance of actually passing because the Democratic party has the supermajority control of the Parliament.

So the final asset liquidation order can be issued as soon as the end of this year, there is no other legal outcome according to legal experts.

Some simple facts regarding this case.

Yoon administration plan CANNOT STOP the asset liquidation process, because this case is technically between the forced laborers and the Japanese companies, Yoon is a 3rd party to the case and Yoon's plan is not legally binding.

The supreme court gave a time out to see if Yoon administration could come up with an arbitration that could be acceptable to all plaintiffs. Since he failed to do so, the case resumes.

The forced laborers and their lawyers will hold a press conference opposing Yoon's plan and their intentions to continue pursuing asset liquidation case.

The Democratic party officially issued their opposition to Yoon's plan and pledged to tear up this agreement when they take back presidential office in 4 years like they did with the comfort women agreement.

Even the ruling party is asking for Mitsubishi and Nippon Steel to honorably contribute to the foundation for the sake of a permanent resolution.

According to sources, this was Yoon's sole decision opposed by ruling party's law makers, because it's basically a political suicide for elected law makers. While Yoon doesn't have a reelection to run for, ruling party law makers must run for reelection next year and their party now won the traitor party label.

According to last poll, 63.7% of Korean public opposed Yoon's plan and 22.9% in favor.
