I wonder if he's going to have the shakes as he picks up the sushi with chopsticks, a bead of sweat slowly rolling down his face ...
Anyone else remember the guy drinking the glass of water to prove that drinking was safe in Fukushima ? That turned out to be a bad PR stunt so I hope this works out better.
Yubaru
Let Kishida have some first!
sakurasuki
Is only for PR, we know that the only two countries that significant enough to convinced is China and South Korea, their import of Japanese food is unmatched to other countries in the world.
Fighto!
Good for Emmanuel.
If this small act will help convey the fact that Japanese seafood is perfectly safe, then it has to be a good thing.
Just a shame so many people are using the water release to attack Japan for political reasons.
nosuke
Too early to eat the fish wait a little longer until the biohazard water is released and at least half the entire stack.
nosuke
It’s your body your choice to eat fish or not no one but yourself will complain after getting cancer. It’s a gamble

Good..

If Mr Rahm were to eat something caught in the port area adjacent to the NPP then that would be especially newsworthy but he won’t, so it isn’t.
Whatever he consumes will have been caught way out in the ocean
bass4funk
Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy, you go first Rahm.
obladi
If it turns out the fish was caught in South America, the stunt will backfire. But I personally hope it has some calming effect.

Rahm Emanuel is a dodgy Chicago politician with more than a whiff of corruption about him in his climb up the greasy pole and in his career has shown himself to be as slippery as an eel. Eating a "Fukushima" fish for public consumption is just a stunt that nobody should take at face value.
stormcrow
Emanuel's a Chicago politician. He knows and plays the ropes well.
Mark
We all make choices on daily bases as to what to eat drink or even where to play and Mr. Emanuel no different.
Mark
Kishida san did not do that !? so why Mr. Emanuel ??
nosuke
Yea Kushikun eat that dirty fish let us know how safe it was
dbsaiya
Haha! Better than Nishimura who did the same yesterday before the water release. Nishimura is a joke.
NotThe One
Emanuel must be desperate for some attention. He is tired of being exiled in the global wilderness.
Is he eating fish before or after the release of the radioactive water?
NotThe One
Also, where is the fish from or where was it actually caught?
yokohamarides
Last person in the world I would trust.

I am in Fukushima now. I ate fish and rice grown and caught in Fukushima. I will continue to do so.
Hervé L'Eisa
The guy's a total and complete schmuck. Buffoon.
Stephen Chin
Typically Representatively American! Wants public attention!! Wants to show off!!! He will not know until many years later what an idiot, cretin or how stupid he is after having eating nuclear impregnated fish in 2023. But who knows that he thinks that by the time he gets ill with nuclear poison he could sue Japan for having nuclear poisoned all fish in Earth's oceans. How Typically Representively American! $ ! $ ! $

It’s a nice gesture. I’m sure that the small amount of radiation in the food is not going to harm anyone if they eat it once. Let’s see him eat it three or four times a week for the next year like the locals do.
OKuniyoshi
And its his business??? He pull this Circus stunt like this, you know its politics.
cuddly
No fish for me thank you.

Although it is not wise to perform on an individual level, as it is easy to become conspicuous, there is no doubt that there is absolutely no problem with the wastewater. On the other hand, it was necessary for the government to take the initiative in emphasizing and continuously communicating the fact that there is no effect of radiation, but we have not seen any such efforts. I hope Kishida will reflect on this. Also, if the Japanese government is paying NHK a high operating cost, it should have allowed NHK to do more public relations.
deanzaZZR
Rahm should do one better and host a Fukushima fish fry for all US Embassy staff. I wonder how many would show up.
Rakuraku
Ridiculous. It would make sense if he eats some regularly. Nobody except him to drop dead just because he ate some fish one time! The potential problem is to eat some regularly because of potential accumulation of radioactivity.
Dave Fair
I would be more impressed if he were to have his wife and children eat fish from the area with him! This is one diplomatic exercise the United States ought to keep it's distance from and stay silent on!
kurisupisu
Equating a couple of hours in a plane with ingesting Tritium is absolutely not comparable no matter how much the computation is bungled
Samit Basu
And I can see Rahm Emanuel filing damages lawsuit against Japanese government and TEPCO for $100 million after developing cancer 10 years from now.
Nai
Isnt there anything better to report…. than this dude planning on eating fish??
opheliajadefeldt
As long as the discharge is carried out as planned, radiation doses to people will be vanishingly small - more than a thousand times less than doses we all get from natural radiation every year..........That was a universities professors view............ And Nuclear plants around the world regularly release waste water with tritium levels above that of the treated water from Fukushima. ..........These are the views of many 'Experts' from the world over. I honestly do not know who to trust and believe anymore, we all know that those in positions of power, lie and will deceive the masses for their own benefit. Maybe that is happening here.
