Trump has 36%, heck it's even better than Abe's....
I don think Abe will do anything but to say that he'll "sincerely reflect" or to "pledge" things as always.

Aside from the scandals, after five years people are realizing that his Three Arrows promises have gone nowhere.
His primary agenda back in 2006 and now is to get rid of Article 9 and re-instill pre-war nationalism. The people don't care about that.

Must have been from the pesky Asahi Newspaper!

How low can he go! This could turn out to be a fun game. Each week predict how much lower his poll numbers are and then wait for them to match that! I'm hoping he will hit the 20's sooner than later, and then the real fun will begin, and the long knives will come out in full force!

I think that's what will happen. I can't imagine Abe doing anything now that can reverse this trend. I expect he'll just keep saying he takes the polls seriously, will reflect on them sincerely and focus on achieving good results, but actually do nothing.

Is anyone really surprised, Abe and the LDP's arrogance and pursuing their own agendas regardless of what others are saying, i.e.: business leaders, academics and the people. The 3 arrows has failed, it was a gimmick, reality has set in folks, time for a change.
smithinjapan
Doesn't matter. He'll still do what he wants and say it's mandated. He's not quitting until the Constituion has been changed -- that is his life's goal. He does t care about ANYTHING except that.
Citizen2012
I am still surprised there are still 35.8% percent support but since Japan has this disparity in voting accepted despite the constitution stating otherwise maybe it is also applied in polls for the LDP.

Where's Kim when you need him? Nothing short of a false flag will save dear leader now!!
Yubaru
According to another, poll, that I saw on a noon-time talk show today, Abe's numbers are down under 30%.

Keep falling

I doubt the opposition can put together a convincing campaign in the near future. So, he'll be replaced eventually by another LDP-er. Will there be a chance at another platform by an opposition party? Cautiously doubtful.
toshiko
I think he will change his mind about Constitution change. Don't you guys look at his face under his eyes?
Chinese war ships invading Japanese sea and N Korea shooting missiles dropping near Japan,, he now have to worry popularity.

Kyodo is right wing so this number must be actually smaller.

Oh yes? How do you come by that conclusion, then?

In tandem with his buddy Trump. time to start a war with NK.

Yubaru,
Well, maybe that's exactly what the 64.2 percent are worried about. Abe is pushing in that direction. Luckily he doesn't have much support.
Toasted Heretic
In what sense? Compared to who?
mulan
I am shocked that Abe got 36% rating. In my poll, Abe only got 2% rating when China, Koreas and Russia were polled.
toshiko
@Mulan. Which polling method did you use? How many Japanese voters? Wait. Anatawa Nihongoo ga Kakemasuka?
toshiko
I think Abe should listen to Article 9 promoters anti N Korea Pyongyang plan.
toshiko
In USA , Trumo's after election poll was computed with states that voted for Trump. So, we can't compare Kyodo poll against Trump numbers. Kyodo poll was not done on all prefectures. Very unreliable numbers in Japan.

Writers, If you want to know about Article 9 or Japanese constitution, find in Wikipedia, English version. I am not going to write as old stories, I tend to stray to gossip.

In politics, a scandal or two lowers the approval rating. No one's invincible forever.

Koizumi was better!
Yubaru
Would someone please tell the translators here that the proper wording should be something more along the lines of "amending the constitution that was enacted in 1947" , using "supreme law" (AGAIN) is a subtle way of sounding like we are living under a dictatorship.
Words do matter!
Yubaru
Actually no, it was not a telephone poll either. The pollsters evidently go out door-to-door throughout the country to get their data. Sorry, I didnt get the name of the polling company, but the news show also had the Kyodo numbers as well.

What a shame, he's one of the better Prime Ministers Japan has had in years.
