Hahaha! Right! Trump will be tweeting to undermine things in 5 minutes, and Abe will be going around demanding other nations around the world increase sanctions, offering financial aid as incentive. They just want to LOOK like they're supporting SK since it's actually dooing what they can't through bombast and threats.

Good on them but unfortunately we have to be wary of SK. Their intentions are now unclear with Moon the NK puppet in government and they are starting to look like they are actually trying to help NK nuke up and nuke America and Japan. SK is by far the weak link here and isn’t looking trustworthy anymore

dcog9065, Abe successfully isolated Japan from neighbors. Between Japan and NK, South has no hesitation to choose NK over Japan. Let you guess which country will SK choose between Japan and China ? According to legend, Japan will sink, or Abe will sink it.

And we show cooperate with South Korea in reining in Trump and Abe whose saber rattling could be a prelude to war.

It’s time they reunite. Diplomacy through sports? Incremental steps still build a relationship. Can they field a United team for the World Cup in ‘22?

Sounds both coutries are expecting Unification of Korea.

Imagine that! Are you disappointed?

@Smith: I am congratulating both Korean countries. Until Hirobumi Ito tricked Korea nd it became Kooorea as Japan's territory. it was one country.

@smith, You like both countries are separated under US military command? Ian not like you. I think USA get out from Philippines and Asian countries including Koreass and Japan.

The ROK doesn't want to work with Japan on North Korean issues.

Unification under DPRK regime?

Better than being under DPRK or PRC regime, which will happen when the U.S. leaves.

If DPRK government is better, why are NK people trying to defect to SK?

I support dprk in their independence and view towards Japan but in their human rights abuses

but NOT in their human rights abuses

Abe is just following Washington's orders. The US does not want the unification of Korea and the US will then not have an excuse for it military bases in SK and Japan. I, repeat, Japan is still under US occupation and Abe takes his orders from Washington. The US is making Japan the target of US enemies by having its bases in Japan.

This is not shifting public eyes away from Trump. Investigations on his Russian connection,,, He will think something else. Such as TPP. Abe hasn't been reliable to Trump recently.

Japan needs to stay out of the Korean civil war. The SDF needs to concern itself with the defense of Japan alone. History tells us what happens when Japan uses its military in other nations.

You can't have it both ways. So long as Kim is in power and DPRK regime continues to exist, the human rights abuse will continue. IF you are against the DPRK's human rights abuse toward their people, then you should be against the DPRK regime and support their removal.

Japan needs to stay out of the Korean civil war. (YuriOtaniToday 05:20 am JST)

Yes. I've wonder why Japan needs to be involved. The conflict is between NK and U.S./UN/SK. But as long as NK is threatening Japan, then it IS involving Japan and Japan has every right to be a concerned participant to defend itself just as it is U.S. and UN's concern to defend SK against the NK threat.

On the other hand, I can't help but wonder whether Abe is positioning himself to be a go-between or peace-broker between the U.S. and NK, in the same manner Pres. Jimmy Carter brokered a peace treaty between Israel and Egypt back in 1979. If Abe is successful in brokering a peace, he could get the Nobel Peace Prize. (Revolting thought, isn't it?)

Japan is still under US occupation and Abe takes his orders from Washington. The US is making Japan the target of US enemies by having its bases in Japan. (rlperez@hotmail.com.auFeb. 3 10:14 pm JST)

BS. The U.S. does not oversee and dictate Japan's domestic affairs or civil constitutional matters. But the U.S. is the lead partner of the Strategic Alliance Treaty and Japan follows the U.S. lead. What's wrong with that? NK takes its orders from China and Russia.

As far as making Japan the target by having bases in Japan is like saying cities are making themselves target of crime because of police presence in the city. The U.S. bases are there to augment and support Japan SDF against the enemy just as police are in the city to support and protect its citizens.

I think you all are missing an opportunity.  With the successful removal of Kim and DPRK regime through a coercive military strike, the people of NK (who believe in a humane and democratic government) can work together with SK to set up a DEMOCRATIC Unified Korea aligned with the U.S.

Then the U.S. can MOVE ALL its military OUT of mainland Japan and Okinawa TO the Unified Korea.....and let Korea host and deal with the U.S. military. (Russia and China would have a meltdown losing their NK buffer and having the U.S. military so close, but that's their problem.)
