Xi reiterated Japan should face its history and properly deal with sensitive issues such as the future of Taiwan, which Beijing claims as its own territory.

Ummm....Japan's history:

1937 - Japan starts a war against the Republic of China.

1941 - Japan starts a war against the US, UK, etc.

1945 - Japan loses war and hands Taiwan back to the Republic of China.

1948 - The Republic of China establishes itself on Taiwan.

1949 - The Peoples Republic of China (PRC) is established in Beijing.

What "history" is Xi talking about?

Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba said Friday he and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed to foster "mutually beneficial" and "stable" relations

Sadly, Xi was lying, as ever. The CCP will continue its aggression and stealing, as it has done for many years.

Always judge China by its actions, never its words.

In September, China said it would "gradually" restart Japanese seafood imports after imposing a blanket ban

A ban that is in clear violation of WTO rules. Typical of that rogue state.

The usual suspects here having a hissy fit that the leaders of China and Japan meet. The usual suspects who are neither Chinese nor Japanese. I've always wondered why such people are so concerned about Sino-Japanese relations, nothing to do with them or their countries. What next? These two countries should do trade with each other in a third currency for eternity?

The usual suspects here having a hissy fit

It's hardly a "hissy fit" to point out China's consistent lies and aggression over many years.

Anyone who cares about Japan should welcome high-level contacts between Japan and China, two amazing civilizations with a mutual, beneficial history going back 1,500 years.

This is good news, and they are right to keep talking and developing good relations. China, Japan and Korea can take the lead in fostering good relationships in Asia, built on mutual respect, trust and understanding. I personally hope they can achieve this. A peaceful and prosperous Asia will be a great place to be.

China has just opened a massive port in Peru, by the way, significantly increasing its sphere of influence.

In the US's 'back yard', too.

So, if they agreed to foster "mutually beneficial" and "stable" relations, does that mean China will stop behaving aggressively towards Taiwan and in the South China sea. My guess is not at all. It just means China wants Japan to remain out of it, which of course would be beneficial to China. With Trump being an isolationist China is no doubt seeking to take advantage of this opportunity to divide and conquer.

Fine to talk.

Not fine to fall for the usual CCP lies.

You really have to wonder about the inner dynamics and actually how much power Xi wields in his own party.

I am starting to have serious doubts. Puppet of lies. Good intentions? Where are we here?

Trust is a major factor here.

Congratulation, looking forward to see the two nations work together towards Peace and prosperity for their people.

The start of a new Era, best of luck.

Haters don't like this at all I bet.

Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba is making a profound mistake, the despot dictatorship, Chinese President Xi Jinping continues to commit genocide, crimes against humanity against Uyghurs, the Muslim minority group cannot for a moment be relied upon to follow international agreement or treaties.

The bullying murderous thuggery of Xi Jinping regime is proven documented.

Xi Jinping agenda is to control through belligerent military action, air sea and land to seize vital global trading routes, the invasion of Taiwan is only a matter of time, his fortified trillion dollar sand castles proof enough.

Japan must toughen up, fully accept only a full off shore independent tactical, strategic nuclear deterrent will strengthen/provide the necessary means to focus Xi Jinping regime to the outcomes if provoked.

You worry about your own country (which I have a sneaky feeling is not doing well economically). Typical western hegemonic nosey behavior. If you want to know about lies then look at your own government and how they constantly cover up a genocide taking place right now in West Asia. I welcome peaceful Sino-Japanese relations. It's up to them, not you.

How is it going to work out with a terrorist state like china?

10 ( +11 / -1 )

Agree with "P......2", I also noticed the usual rhetoric from the same responders. Perhaps, covert racism? yellowphobia?

However, am afraid non thing may be achieved here. As long as Japan does not reclaim its sovereignty.

2 sinking nations and 2 sinking “ leaders”. Running their countries and people into the ground.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

If we are to learn from history, Japan stopped learning from China in 894 and has since developed its own culture.

There is not much to learn from China, whose intellectual class disappeared due to Mao Zedong's Cultural Revolution.

And China's sophistry is now known to the whole world.

No one trusts or believes in China.

Entirely concur, such an outcome would be wonderful. Regrettably the likelihood of it happening in the real world is negligible to nonexistent. Judge China under the CCP by its actions not its words and it is patently obvious they can not be trusted to even keep formal treaties let alone meaningless waffle in some side meeting.

OKuniyoshi

covert racism? yellowphobia?

Always a good move, if you haven’t got a cogent argument, throw in a spurious and unprovable claim of racism.

It's beyond ironic that the Philippines was wealthier (yet still poor) than China 50 years ago. Fast forward to today and Chinese per capital GDP (nominal) is now 3 times that of PI with high speed rail criss-crossing the continent sized country and a space station orbiting over our heads.

You worry about your own country (which I have a sneaky feeling is not doing well economically).

With Biden as President, America had clout far beyond its present abilities warrant.

Now that everyone knows WHAT Trump is, and what he'll be doing for the next 4 years AND that it is what America's voters want, not a 'fluke' it's clout has fallen precipitously to what it deserved when Obama left. It's soon going to drop even more steeply as what Trump starts doing begins to make it clear that the US is never going to recover to what it was in the 20th century. It was predicted that the 21st century was going to 'belong to China' well before the end of the 20th.

Yes, it is not the 60s, but that doesn't mean China will ever escape middle income status. The US remains the only G7 country with disposable income.

Yes, China stole a lot of stuff and used its heft when stealing wasn't sufficient. China remains closer the Phillipines in terms of wealth than the US.

An Asia without any values would be a terrible place to be.

In the US's 'back yard', too.

No railway from west coast to east coast. The US will remain the preferred route unless 47 does something really bad to screw it up.

Wow, now there is a pretty picture.

Totally agree with this statement. Asia (and especially Japan) without any values would be a terrible place to be. That’s why Americans voted fro Trump (lack of any ethical values) and why the Asian region need to keep distance from any form of American influence, especially the military industrial complex.
