Agree that Hiroshima is a good place for the summit.

It will add a sense of clarity to the fuzziness & mystique surrounding the city and it's current status decades after the devastating bombing.

But if politicians - esp Japanese leaders - use the site and occasion to back up their populist agenda, then it stinks.

To have any credibility in holding the event (way past it's use by date anyway) in Hiroshima, the govt of Japan must sign the ban on nuclear weapons treaty.

To not do so is surely an insult to the sufferings of the 100,000s of nuclear victims.

Hiroshima is sacred land to many - not a political parade ground.

Hiroshima is a nice place, both seaside and landside as well.

I'm willing to bet there'll be a photo op right outside the dome or that museum. This is getting so predictable.

Miyajima Island is another photogenic place for the group photo of G7 leaders. They will probably visit there by boat directly from the meeting place on the Ujina shore.

That is the most ridiculous myopic announcement .

Reaffirm it as many times as they like however the reality is the G7 will never be able to achieve their pipe dream.

Not with that attitude they won't.

So let's all be fatalistic pessimists, right?

Down cynics down, slither back into thy caves!

Hiroshima is the perfect place at the perfect time for this meeting. Those that have been there will get it. Real simple.

Yay, another gabfest.

Probably, but when a major world leader and his staff claim the use of nuclear weapons is still a possibility that they might use while they expand their nation's territory.

Hiroshima a good location, to re-remind those that are not supporting Russia, of the possible consequences of nuclear warfare. The Peace Museum is a sobering place, another reminder that nations should not invade and start wars with other nations. And it should be a reminder that nations should develop their own energy sources, instead of relying on other nations, or invading other nations to get their resource, which is . something Japan should have learned, but still has not. Recall what happened to the Dutch East Indies and why they were brutally attacked.Add in Iraq and Libya.

It's called being realistic not pessimistic !

You are clearly a fatalistic pessimist. A realist sees some optimism, as well as some pessimism, because in the real world, there are things to be both optimistic and pessimistic about.

So if you're a realist, why, when I go back and read your posts, is there literally not a single point of optimism, and as such, how is it that you define yourself as a realist?

You think the USA will give up its Nuclear weaponry ?

Maybe if Russia, China, North Korea, Israel, India, Pakistan the UK and France did, the US might. But still highly unlikely. It's a trillion dollar industry in the US, so expect the US still still possess them, and hope they're never used again like they were. Ans hope he US does not elect for president another hugely egotistical, highly insecure megalomaniac, someone who has the suitcase with him at all times, and has shown he can easily go off the rails, e.g. "take me back to the capitol", and if they do go wack, there will be secret service men to rein them in.

You think the USA will give up its Nuclear weaponry ?

I see no reason to not stop trying to achieve a nuclear-weapon-free world, for as long as we live in a world that has nuclear weapons. Why would we ever stop trying to achieve a world without that?

Anyone who thinks we should just accept it is a fatalistic pessimist, and rather than being the type of person who advances humanity, they drag it back. And the internet gave them a megaphone.

Probably be getting some of this lovely weather as early as may next year

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Dago, I think it’s plain as day where the light shines in here my friend. Nothing new about these back and forths whatsoever. They’re as old as history! Those that get it , get it and those that don’t just don’t. Each to thy own wit, nature and character…… oh and each to his own cave! Live long and prosper!

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Yeah, the last few meetings have been so productive at stabilizing the yen.

-2 ( +6 / -8 )

All delegates bringing their currency will be really happy to do shopping in Hiroshima since Japanese yen getting low.

-4 ( +11 / -15 )

They'd better hurry up and reserve their guided tours.

-4 ( +12 / -16 )

Yay, another gabfest.

-6 ( +11 / -17 )

The guy says he must be respected because he was born in US nuked Hiroshima. But during a totally out of control, ongoing severe nuclear disaster, he has officially stated he will do his best to open all shut down nuclear reactors. Even past their date and on active fault lines and a shortage of nuclear technicians. Smart guy.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

And I bet one family jewel, not both but one yes, that other G7 citizens will still not be able to enter freely the country.

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

Good … waste more taxpayers money! Let the citizens suffer more as there are so many out there who are struggling to make ends meet!

-8 ( +2 / -10 )

I'm willing to bet there'll be a photo op right outside the dome or that museum. This is getting so predictable.

-9 ( +19 / -28 )

so its time to prepare 20000+ "unecessary police force" to protect you from public...and burn a lot of cash from japanese taxpayers for-nothing/or some pathetic pictures for media/

-9 ( +13 / -22 )

Ughhhh…….how long have they been talking about this now?

who cares where it will be already, just do your little song and dance and just zip it.

how about working on more important things around here? Like making the YEN worth something other than being scratch paper?

-11 ( +9 / -20 )

Down cynics down, slither back into thy caves!

The Cynics were the ones in the sun, sometimes naked like Diogenes, with their cynical disregard of the entitled strutting about.

The ignorant were the ones in Plato's cave.

Hiroshima is a beautiful city, and deserves better than a visit by global oligarchs and an oppressive police presence all paid for on the Japanese taxpayer 10 yen.

-11 ( +2 / -13 )

Yes that would be awesome if the world gave up all their weapons of mass destruction however the reality is that its extremely unlikely and unrealistic that would ever happen !

You are clearly a fatalistic pessimist

Strangerland your confined to the futile struggle to categorize everyone that comments.

I haven't claimed to be a pessimist or an optimisti or a realist.

Control freaks have a need to classify and categorize everything in obsessive compulsive disorder

To be open minded enough to realize that Japan isn't going to be able to ask all the nuclear powers and terrorist organizations to just abandon their nuclear weapons and achieve undiminished security.

Because of the ridiculous world we've created having nuclear weapons "IS" having security ! ! !

Giving up their nuclear weapons is Giving up their security.

Why that's so difficult for you to understand is not difficult to understand.

Another showcase to portray Japan as a victim in the war, while LDP continue to march en mass to Yasukuni and right wing morons ride around in their trucks blaring toxic and obnoxious slogans about imperial Japan. How about holding it in Fukushima? If I remember correctly, the Olympics made it all good over there, sample some of the local delicacies and tour the reconstruction sites

EXACTLY!

If playing the victim were an Olympic sport, all the other countries would have to give up right away. Japan would win hands down.

would probably replace Sumo as the national sport, and they have it down to a science, almost

@dbsaiya:

Spot on. If playing the victim were an Olympic sport, all the other countries would have to give up right away. Japan would win hands down.

The announcement came after this year's G7 summit concluded in Schloss Elmau, a castle resort in southern Germany,

Very apropos to the theme of the oligarchs' neo-feudal agenda , using disaster capitalism with Ukraine as the trigger this round.

The Hiroshima setting next time will be more LDP ineffectual international cry for recognition , again on the back of Japanese citizenry, who will see no benefit.

-15 ( +11 / -26 )

So lets all be fatalistic pessimists, right?

Wrong !

It's called being realistic not pessimistic !

" please sir will you give up your Nuclear Weapons and achive undiminished security for all "

Thats ridiculous !

Meanwhile...it was discovered recently Japan has a stockpile of chemical weapons even tho they signed and agreement to not have them.

And what about biological weapons any of those too ?

It's futile to argue the trustworthiness .

Japan seeks to have it's own nuclear deterrence arsenal and also is already under the USA nuclear umbrella.

You think the USA will give up its Nuclear weaponry ?

Lets not be ignorant and naive

-15 ( +4 / -19 )

I don’t know why the Western media lets Japan portray itself as the victim and time and again.

Hiroshima is a beautiful city right enough, too bad the LDP and Nippon Kaigi will use the atomic for their own populist agendas.

Any sane person knows that if the IJA had had such WMD it wouldn’t have hesitated wiping out its enemies in WW2 with them.

Sick to the back teeth of having Hiroshima rammed down my throat when the natives little to nothing about Bataan and Unit 731.

The G7 reaffirms the commitment to the ultimate goal of a world without nuclear weapons with undiminished security for all

That is the most ridiculous myopic announcement .

Reaffirm it as many times as they like however the reality is the G7 will never be able to achieve their pipe dream.

More likely to cause a nuclear war than stop one.

Just imagine if the JIA had never had their expansionist efforts where 30 million perished - Taiwan would perhaps still be the Republic of Samosa , Hiroshima and Nagasaki wouldn't have happened .

One minute Japan wants to be isolated and the next minute they want to dominate the world.

By the time the G7 summit happens next year anyone who wasn't aware of what the JIA did and the cause of the atomic bombings will be made aware of the fact.
