But he will "PUSH" a deal within this year!
Akie
Abe will get his way. After this election, there will be another one.

Possibly after the July elections, Trump will hit Japan with an unfair trade deal which he'd done onto China. Restrict Japanese industry the way which he'd done to the Chinese. Its lawlessness!

Nice to dream, yet I can not see how anyone would think it's against the constitution to negotiate anything regarding a trade deal. This is just one of the benefits of being the party in power, you get to dictate the terms and while some may think it may be wrong, (dont actually understand why) it's reality.
Trump does basically the same thing, and it's up to the electorate to determine whether or not they agree with the manner which their leader is running things.
From the Japanese standpoint, Abe is being seen as "strong" and a "leader" by negotiating this with Trump, and however Abe chooses to use it to his advantage is just politics in action.
I would hope that folks wouldnt be so naive to think anything different.
Also never forget Abe is not elected by the people of Japan. His party is, and since he is the president of the LDP, and they control both houses in the Diet, he becomes by default, the Prime Minister/Head of Japan.

I wonder if they told Trump to use family name first and given name last.

Give the simultaneous interpreters some face time.

Isnt that against some kind of Japanese constitutional law? Asking someone not to press too hard before an election so he looks good to the general population and has a better chance of winning an upcoming election?! This is so wrong on so many levels. How many billions of dollars did he pledge in US investments for this bribe?
Yosshh
We are really tired to get such drama just like N.Korea

'Now Shinzo, one plus two is four, right?'
Bintaro
Last time's tariffs were imposed right after Trump and Abe had a "great time" too.
I wouldn't be surprised if Trump reverses course when back in the US, and decides he want a deal immediately.

Only because his policies hurt them in the first place, in his rush to appease the business lobby. Farmers that once supported Trump, in the misguided belief that he would help them, are now running away from him like the plague!

Approve what?
SaikoPhysco
@Strangerland.... you approve of course. Trump hawkish on trade but when he's willing to support Abe by reducing trade demands you look the other way. What has Trump actually accomplished after almost 2 1/2 years as President? Trade.... Americans are paying 25% more for Chinese products.... basically the average consumer is paying more tax. The federal deficit is projected to hit $1 Trillion. N. Korea still launching missiles. Healthcare still an expensive mess and illegal immigrants still crossing the border. Now, he's going to bailout farmers at more cost to the regular taxpayer. He's done nothing so far... nothing but run around the World and the Country looking for undeserved praise. He is the definition of a Demagogue on Steroids.

No crap, Trump doesnt want to undermine his BFF!
