Now this is interesting...

There's no shortage of documented Chinese individuals working with or for an entity, only to leave and take prized documents with them (illegally), it's a trait. If I was a recipient of Mr Ren's offer, I'd runaway as fast as I can. There's no happy ending anywhere Huawei or China is involved.

The African Union, who got given a $100 million for their HQ now wishes they didn't accept the gift from China/Huawei in the first place. Who gets a gift and wishes they didn't accept it?

More like steal their trade secrets before the next anti-Japan flare up happens in China

There's no way Japan will go against Big Brother. It's also a chance for Japan to hammer a few more nails into their relationship with China. It's just not gonna happen.

If the Japanese are smart they won't take the bait. China is not to be trusted.

Japan, South Korea, and China are leading in 5G technologies, along with EU, only very few educated people know this.

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

Yeah....no thank you China. Perhaps Russia is interested.

@akie

Japan is actually lagging behind in 5G technology.

The leaders in Asia are 1) China 2) South Korea 3) India. Japan is far behind these 3 countries. China and South Korea are leading the entire world. Followed by the US and then Germany before India.

I don't think Huawei knows that the Japanese market is even more restrictive than American recently became because of Huawei.

JJ Jetplane, India is ahead of Japan ? Very interesting to learn. Sound reasonable, because India is making rapid progress in many fields.

@Akie

From a full utilization standpoint. South Korea is far above the rest of the world as its achieved 70% roll out across the country in not only cell phone services but internet as well.

The reason China is ahead is because China is developing not only it's own network but also India and also formed a partnership with KDDI to help them so while Docomo and Softbank are expecting a rollout in 2021. KDDI has moved up their expected start date to 2020. India has successfully utilized 5G developed by Huawei. But because the US and Europe began to boycott Indian services, the Government has halted using 5G and further development under the overwatch of Huawei.

It is LONG overdue for the West to start taking China OUT of the equation, they have clearly demonstrated they are untrustworthy sadly, STOP feeding the MONSTER that is China...…

Pay NOW or a LOT MORE later!!

Exactly this. It happens over and over, from small businesses to large ones. I've heard of people running juku cram schools in China, only for the locally-hired teachers to hold unofficial classes in the school and take the money. Or people investing in businesses with partners there who underreport earnings and skim money off the top for themselves.

China is still very much a Wild West situation.

"We can create great products," Ren said

This is not a reason to ignore humanitarian issues and deal closely with a CCP lackey company.

*the United States will decouple its economy from China's, but many companies do not want it because *it will dampen sales.

Yes, depending on how ferverently greedy you are, as a company you'd be crazy not to do business with China. There's already a backlash against Apple and NBA over appeasing the CCP, why would any Japanese company want to get their hands dirty too? Ren should take his red tinted glasses off.

Technology? No it isn't. I think you mean marketing.

Ah, an ambiguous statement that's neglected to be quantified. Japan is doing everything you stated and more (autonomous vehicle 5G hardware). But you'd only know that if you researched about Japanese tech as much as you did South Korea.

Yeah....no thank you China. Perhaps Russia is interested.

Well, but we need to keep China and Russia from joining together.

If China and Russia became very close allies, it's possible that they could become an unstoppable monster.

That's why Trump tries to drive a wedge between them by pretending to buddy up to Russia. Keep your friends close, keep your enemies closer.

Why have one phone, when you can have two phone with same number ,by cloning your sim card

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Good will aside. The real question here is can you trust an authoritarian regime and even if you can do you want them as a bedfellow?

Japan maybe smart enough to play this well, maybe not. Time will certainly tell. To say there's a lot at stake here maybe the understatement of our generation!

@HillClimber

If you understood what 5G meant then you would know Japan lags behind the world. All those technologies that they developed is not reliant upon 5G capabilities. Furthermore, the Government only allowed access to 5G spectrum this year. Japan is behind on 5G. I do my research. A large section of the investment portfolios I pitch as well as funds that I back are heavily connected to 5G, 5G research, and 5G utilization.

I do my research. That is how I know Japan lags behind 5G.

Autonomous vehicles and hardware doesn't use the 1G to 5G spectrum. It uses completely different wavelength tech. Furthermore, the bands that Japan utilizes for 5G doesn't offer the speeds needed because it's a low band spectrum that offers penetrating ability needed for the Japanese terrain and not high band which offers drastically higher speeds. So the tech they are working on relies more on advanced WiFi.

Also, the Korean market isn't misleading. There is a reason Korea is the highest exporter of robotics and robotics research. Their main fields are robotics and ship building. There are a lot of companies that have shared researching agreements with Private South Korean robotics firms. Google self driving tech has a lot of patents and parts from multiple Korean firms. Who do you think spearheaded the robotics research for autonomous limbs for people?

The second most advanced robotics country is Singapore.

Just because things are not reported in the news. Doesn't mean it isn't there. I do my research.

Well the 5G network equipment providers are Samsung, Nokia and Erricson, ZTE and Huawei are out, and no Japanese vendor.

That is not accurate, in pure robotic research US is still the leader. As for Singapore, well they just provide the test bed environment for any tech company to test there technology/hardware in real time city environment, the local universities subtly collaborates so that they are in the loop for publishing research papers.

It is time for Japan to show real global mindedness.

The US population in 6 years is estimated to be 347,000,000. China’s population with its growing middle class population is estimated to be 1, 378,000,000. Like many US corporations, I too salivate at the numbers. It is in Japan’s interest to work with China and Huawei.

By the end of last year Huawei has been granted 87,805 patents. It is asking Verizon to pay 1 billion dollars for unauthorized use of some 200 patents. That Chinese companies steal IP therefore all Chinese companies must surely steal IP is an easy conclusion drawn.

Another reason is that I haven’t seen any statues popping up or people protesting Japanese products in China. The last time was in 2010 because of Governor Ishihara. Xi has given orders for Chinese ships to stay out of the Senkakus. He is visiting Tokyo next year and there will be beaucoup de contracts. The two countries don’t seem to be stuck in the past and progress is being made.
