Kishida said his government is not considering lowering the consumption tax rate from the current 10 percent or altering the ultraeasy monetary policy employed by the Bank of Japan.

Article all about Kishida as he confounds logic that the above measures are "protecting the lives of the people of Japan".

Such howlers by Kishida should be easy to rip apart by political rivals in any functional democracy....

But the article is all about Kishida with him at the center.

Off to see if Taro Yamamoto was given the opportunity to respond. I know it will not be on the nightly news shows.

Someone should tell the guy in the blue suit Japanese do not take kindly to dressing and acting out of the norm.

I think they just love trotting out that "protect people's lives" line, no matter what the situation. They probably think it makes them sound all strong, heroic and macho, like Samurai from their favourite 1970s taiga dramas as opposed to a clique of boring old men with dyed hair and tacky suits.

As of today independent Diet members are far more Reiwa, NHK , Mizuho . Why they aren't called at this press conference?

I predict an LDP landslide -- nothing will ever change in this country.

The photo is very emblematic and properly represents Japan pyramid system.

All the oyaji leaders in front and the only woman (senior) sided on the corner.

No wonder why Japan is on the 121th position in gender rights.

As usual nothing will ever change, and if it does it will take at least decades if not a century.

So much for equality and diversity.

It seems that Komeito's main function is to prop up the Living Dead Party.

and Takashi Tachibana of the party fighting against NHK

This one never gets old.

Japan is sidelined more and more in the world now.

30-40 years ago it was almost every other day that reporters were talking about the ‘Japanese miracle’ and Van Goghs were being bought for record prices by a Japanese companies.

The politicians are now complacent and frightened of change that will usurp their positions.

However, that change is inexorable and will disrupt their entrenched positions.

Tachibana seems to have completed his character arc to become Saul Goodman.

I predict an LDP landslide -- nothing will ever change in this country.

I also predict an LDP landslide. Because no other party has the confidence of the Japanese populace.

You want a counytry that never changes? Try China (PRC) or North Korea (DPRK).

What nonsense. They're barely tolerated.

Ironically, Japanese communists are probably the only ones with a brain, a plan, and a spirit to rejuvenate Japan. However, they will be immediately cut down by the CIA like Japan Socialist Party in the past. It is extremely fortunate that JCP is still surviving strongly.

I'm not sure about that. I think their support may be starting to trail off as people may be realising they're never going to get into government.

How come the aircon in that venue is turned up to the max?

Aren't those politicos aware of their own advice?

Of course, they would never sit in front of a fan in shorts with an ice pack-for the plebs only….

Kishida says - " i will protect the lives of people in Japan " and rising prices.

However... Kishida has done the opposite by getting involved in the Ukraine crisis and sanctions game has only made Japan's economy worse and raised prices for everything and purchasing more weapons and changing the pacifist constitution puts the Japanese people at risk.

Agreed, but nothing new there.
