U.S., Japan, NZ, Australia to bring electricity to most of Papua New Guinea

I get it, you can deliver power but no one can afford it.

Announcements and good intentions are welcome, but the proof is in the eating. A project of this scale is going to get a lot of media attention in the participating countries along with China and others. It is essential its a success. I hope there is some semblance of an actual plan to carry out this project or the desire to come up with one quickly. And of course, the financing needs to be lined up. It is not going to be easy going on the ground.

Sorry the article doesn't mention frequency, or voltage, or method of generation, it could mean panels in every village or it could mean coal power stations, so will wait to find out more, unless anyone knows ?

Papua New Guinea first, what a novel concept.

Australia has a record deficit, shortage of electricity, record high electricity cost, is unable to fund schools, health, infrastructure, pensions, disability insurance scheme and what does our Prime Minister do?  He allocates billions to support the US in their continued dictatorship and domination of the globe. We, like Japan, vote for a government that is controlled by the US. Both Australia and Japan have governments that dance to the tune of Washington.

Can vouch for my own country ,Australia and partners alike , this will be good news for Papau New Guinea as the work will be done professionally , transparently an effectively. Better than our competitors for one with their cognac, bribes, and shoddy cut corners workmanship. The run for the pacific rim of influence is on.

Wireless power anyone? Sick of cords getting tangled by some invisible tangle elf (I do not tangle them, I lay them down). PNG (yes, I did that - if you're gonna have more than two words in your country's name, have the decency to give us official abbreviation) would be a great place to try wireless power. Lots of remote places...and it protects nature (until nature destroys itself...a la volcano, earthquake, etc).

Meanwile our politicians are trying to beat China to the draw on building projects with small pacific nations. .

Robert, there’s also a bigger game going on mate. A geopolitical one and the stakes are higher than we can imagine.

Really short term thinking. PNG has had very strong historical ties to Australia. Don't forget independence only occurred in the 1970's. It is in Australia's national interest that PNG does well and moves forward, but it has to be done sustainably and its a worry that this project will be funded out of loans once again.

The only way that happens is through nationalization of the grid. The free market has failed electricity and gas consumers here. Better than nationalization though is decentralization which means more solar. The whole concept of a national grid these days is a security disaster waiting to happen.
