Japan isn't the one asking to join. It's the US that wants it's participation as this article makes very clear.
Japan. UK, EU or South Korea are not US "vassal states". All free nations act in their own best interests. And if those interests are mutually shared with other free nations they align themselves. If not, they don't.
It's really not that hard to understand. Best at least try to make an effort.

Who are you referring to exactly? Any other nation that joins AUKUS needs the explicit approval of every member, not just one. It may surprise some to know this is standard protocol for things from the CPTPP, EU, NATO and others. So why is it either surprising or bad in this instance?
So now Japan is a vassal of the UK, Australia and the US simply because they may join a western alliance? Like a number of other nations hope to do? Not only is that a huge stretch of an over active imagination, but a complete fabrication and totally incorrect. Another clumsy attempt at fearmongering from scared supporters of autocrats and despots looking to create an empire.
Fighto!
Having Japan in AUKUS - a collective defence pact between free, democratic nations who believe in Rule of Law in the Asia Pacific - would be a great thing all round. Except for freedom-hating totalitarian states. All three AUKUS members want Japan to join so hopefully it will be soon.
Playing the race card? Really betraying your complete ignorance of defence pacts and military alliances.

As soon as Japan can fix up the gaping holes in it's intelligence and secrets holding / sharing capabilities and transfer, they will be most likely welcomed into Pillar 2 for some tech involvement and money making opportunities. As it stands today.
Until then, it's a good idea to start discussing how that will play out and work in practice and on real terms with the current signatory partners.

You got that a bit wrong.
Sadly, in Japan's case, they do need to follow to a certain extent, I hope that will change one day, but for now, Japan needs and depends on us.
Wait, but China is allowed to saber rattle? The paper tiger that it is. Lol

Japan pays for Pacific defence. Of course the US does not want that money spent without their approval. Ankus invited Japan last to the pact. When you get invited last, it is usually to make up the cash shortfall.
Alfie Noakes
Former US ambassador to Japan, AIPAC whore, Trump stooge and one of the 12 US senators who this week signed a letter threatening the members of the ICC and their families. No surprise to see the genocidal barbarian in the thick of this...

Reminds me of Bass'' comment that the US doesnt tell other countries what to do.
We'll be saying "yes Master " before too long.

Drug addicts invite other friends to do drugs so they will not be the only ones doing it and will feel more acceptance.

Pathetic warmongering circUS of geopolitical spoiled clowns..
LOL

Stay away from AUKUS. All Japan is expected to do is play the part of an obedient servant in the white man’s club.
Mr Goodman
Your absolutely correct.
And Japan obeys
Atleast for now anyway
Mr Kipling
So they need their master's approval?
Tell me again how Japan isn't a classic vassal state.....
