Based on history, just wait for another one year or two year, same thing will reappear again.

Good to see allies working together to resolve issues.

Good to have friends.

One could even say that the 3-way military cooperation was torpedoed by Yoon's declaration of martial law. That Yoon still remains in the office of the president of the ROK is shameful but will be rectified in the near future.

The trilateral partnership between Japan, the U.S. and South Korea has significantly strengthened under President Joe Biden’s administration, but faces new uncertainty amid ongoing political unrest in South Korea, which already led to the cancellation of Austin's planned trip to that country.

What a difference a week can make indeed, and how quickly things move! Unfortunately with Yoon dead in the water, Japan and South Korea relations will take a hit and most likely be back to square one ( to the delight of our Chinese friends), and the region will once again enter a state of nervous uncertainty, and divided it may fall.

It could all pop off anytime and to be honest don’t think there’s a great need to keep mentioning the Osprey ‘issues’ every time either. Does sort of make you think Japan wants the US military umbrella on the one hand but then feels the need to demand everything on their terms on the other. Is it really prudent at this juncture? No doubt Ishiba is just playing to his base, but he may find things are about to change under the T man and these side demands may not work too well for them. Ishiba is gunna have to play it real smart.

It seems Ishiba has friends in the Biden administration. That gives him about six weeks. Then the hammer drops.

Same script. The US lobbies at Wall Street, uncertain about their weapons orders in South Korea, and anticipating a profit falls with Trump, send the most irrelevant SoD in the history, to close few deals (ammunitions, rockets, tanks, whatever), just in time for the Christmas presents in America. What a lesson of morality for a departing US administration.

The unprofessional mafia/yakuza talk

Selling weapons, defense, and protection is the most profitable business. The brokers are government employees, costs are borne by taxpayers, and there is no mention of taxes.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Not sure how these two posing will fix Osprey problem?

That aside, US SOD surely told PM Ishiba..."prepare to spend LOTS more $money on your defense, as Trump's a pay to play transactional type = No More FREEBIES, as globalist grifters will no longer be able to cut your costs"

Plus, "there's new Sheriff in Town as Biden is 'Pardoning Out' and FYI, Hegseth loves his ladies and booze!"

Mafia say the same. What does that say about the US?

Japan perfectly free to go it alone if it so chooses. A few possible scenarios though spring to mind. An emboldened CCP, fun times!

China does not bring (only) military solutions or a warmongering attitude like the USA: these conversations can go on forever.

Diplomatic and economic dialogue are the only way and are beneficial for both countries: China and Japan first and foremost.

And the reasons Washington does not want that is because is worried that its world hegemony is being challenged. Defining China a “threat” is historically incorrect, unless you follow the narrative of the usual suspects that define the alleged skirmished with Filipinos fishermen a danger to a sovereign nation.

Raytheon salesman is back.

To ensure new businesses in future.

As simple as is.

Pure business.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Which board of directors will Austin join after his stint in the Pentagon, Raytheon, Boeing or Lockheed Martin?

Voters firmly rejected Biden Admin Foreign War Policies, forever unwinnable proxy war with Russia especially.

SOD firmly supported Biden Admin Ukraine policy, way out of step with US electorate. No current polling on Ukraine War as it's so unpopular, polling all stopped in springtime (for election) as support fell below 35%.

US voter support must be FAR lower now as Ukraine loses territory daily, risk of NATO involvement growing etc.

Hang on, ladies and gentlemen. US grounds Ospreys in US 'cos of safety issues. US DEFENSE SECRETARY flies to 140mln population in S.E. Asia.. to assure US will still support (=sell?) more destroying things to jpn. Pentagon Head of Sales! So blatant. mmmh maybe US refuse to recognise education level of Asian nations?

Asia got $ US depends on selling destruction, blatant??

And in the meantime we have the usual patriots trying to switch the attention to the made up stories about skirmishes between China vessels and Filipinos fishermen, to incite tensions in the continent.

Over $14 billions of weapons have been approved by the Pentagon since Biden lost the elections, to Japan, South Korea and Taiwan. Orders which are easily traceable.

Last one to Seoul was worth $6,2 billions, and then you wonder why President Moon is still in charge after the martial law chaos.

Certain quarters keep on repeating the "allies" mantra. Anyone with an on-switch knows it is entirely a one-sided relationship.

Tokyo is a mere vassal, a regional comprador of the US empire. These photo ops and ridiculous visits are nothing more than a stage-managed ploy to pretend it is a real bilateral relationship of equals.

(Do they keep choosing the worst photos of Ishiba or he really just non-photogenic?)

Austin spouts off about the "rules-based international order" - this is the codeword for ruthless US hegemony enforced with indiscriminate violence.

Any countries that challenge the gangsterism of these unipolar warmongers by advocating a better, more equitable and peaceful multipolar international order is a labelled a "threat to regional security".

The comments from Trump supporters on this thread reflect a typical lack of understanding. Japan is a modern global power and a key ally of the United States. With a rich military history that predates the founding of the United States, Japan has long demonstrated its capability to defend itself. Trump's return to office for the next four years merely reinforce the importance of Japan maintaining its readiness, something it is well-equipped to do.

Nothing wrong with supporting allies under heinous threat.

China does not bring (only) military solutions or a warmongering attitude like the USA: these conversations can go on forever.

But they do bring the warmongering attitude.

And the reasons Washington does not want that is because is worried that its world hegemony is being challenged.

Japan and SK are perfectly capable of joining the dictatorship brigade if they believe the peaceful rise nonsense.

Nothing alleged about video, damaged ships, and wounded coastguardsmen.

And in the meantime we have the usual patriots trying to switch the attention to the made up stories about skirmishes between China vessels and Filipinos fishermen, to incite tensions in the continent.

Still nothing alleged about it.

Did American weapons shoot someone there? Otherwise the military sales are completely irrelevant to the political situation.

Japan is 100% UN recognized. russia will deal with Japan as an equal one way or another.

Now let's wipe Ukraine off of the map, amirite?
