I love the subtext here: we are no longer remotely interested in preserving our image outside of the USA unless you have something we want.

This is effectively closing the borders, which, like all of Trump's initiatives, will have unintended consequences.

Last year when I visited the US Consulate in Osaka it took several hours to finish my business. Staff cuts will lead to longer delays.

The decoupling is on track, and oncourse. I didn't think Trump dared to do it so quickly, but I guess he only has one term to achieve the election promises.

The US foreign policy apparatus, in this case the embassies all over the world, obviously have some cobwebs that need cleaning out - and this includes DEI hires, USAID and NED programs which need the chop.

That is an absurd statement. U.S. citizens services is a separate department from entry visas for foreigners.

American citizens visiting any embassy, are required to pass through security screening before entry. This screening typically includes metal detectors and bag checks and, depending on the location and circumstances, may involve personal questioning.

They must also follow the regulations on bags.

And everywhere else! It's DJT's strategy to dominate the news cycle. This projects the image that he is working hard and accomplishing things, when he's actually fomenting chaos and reaping the whirlwind.

At the current stage, First Lady Trump will do whatever President Musk tells him to. This will continue until they have a fallout. The best thing we can do is to encourage this fallout to happen sooner rather than later. Calling Elon "President Musk" is one thing we can do to encourage that.
