I love the subtext here: we are no longer remotely interested in preserving our image outside of the USA unless you have something we want.
I'd bet that staff cuts won't be a worry at the embassy in Moscow...

Good.

Bass@ You might change your mind after waiting six months to renew your passport.

Good news, time to clear out the deep state parasites!

This is effectively closing the borders, which, like all of Trump's initiatives, will have unintended consequences.

Last year when I visited the US Consulate in Osaka it took several hours to finish my business. Staff cuts will lead to longer delays.

The decoupling is on track, and oncourse. I didn't think Trump dared to do it so quickly, but I guess he only has one term to achieve the election promises.

This is great news to see that Trump is not letting any stones remain unturned.

Donald the way he is!
End it, terminate it, "I don't like it", "I hate it", a spoiled little cry-baby!
Only he and himself (plus his clan members) are important!

US State Dept. will be taking over vital functions of USAID, their activities that are not fraud, waste, abuse and corruption. Trump wants to make the State Dept Great Again, these pencil pushers can start doing USAID work!

I go to the Embassy once every 10 years. They will be fine.

That is you and not everyone. Even entering takes time with all the security.

The US foreign policy apparatus, in this case the embassies all over the world, obviously have some cobwebs that need cleaning out - and this includes DEI hires, USAID and NED programs which need the chop.
There must be billions of waste and abuse to be saved for the honest taxpayer.

Most of which will be channeled to Trump's cronies and own family.

Time to streamline the US State Dept., like the entire US Govt., put it all on Blockchain to increase digital IQ, efficiency and transparency = MUSK is right!!!

The us is going down everywhere! And the most fun is to see the maga people trying to make a sense of this.

Same here.
And as Americans we zip right past the huge line of foreigners trying to get visas to enter the US.
NCIS Reruns
That is an absurd statement. U.S. citizens services is a separate department from entry visas for foreigners.

American citizens visiting any embassy, are required to pass through security screening before entry. This screening typically includes metal detectors and bag checks and, depending on the location and circumstances, may involve personal questioning.
They must also follow the regulations on bags.

Why are there too many Trump articles on JapanToday?

And everywhere else! It's DJT's strategy to dominate the news cycle. This projects the image that he is working hard and accomplishing things, when he's actually fomenting chaos and reaping the whirlwind.

At the current stage, First Lady Trump will do whatever President Musk tells him to. This will continue until they have a fallout. The best thing we can do is to encourage this fallout to happen sooner rather than later. Calling Elon "President Musk" is one thing we can do to encourage that. Anything that will hurt Trump's ego will serve this cause.

@Blacklabel
Typical Trumpy outlook. If it doesn't affect you, it doesn't exist. Everything revolves around you.
HopeSpringsEternal
Trump's streamlining and restructuring the ENTIRE Federal Govt., obviously this includes State Dept.
Go DOGE! Taxpayers VERY Tired of bureaucratic grifters at State and elsewhere, selling out US for their 'Gain.'

Remarkable man.
