Bow? Handshake? Gesturing to go somewhere? Suga's body-language is as confused and nonsensical as his response to covid

Your PM grew up on a farm, worked his way through university, didn't have wealthy connected parents to pay for him to go to a prestigious university, worked his way up in politics but was more comfortable working behind the scenes. Circumstances pushed him to the limelight but I don't think he is entirely comfortable there. He's not debonair or flashy, just kind of a workmanlike fellow. He isn't obviously corrupt and I would be surprised if he has any skeletons in his closet. I get the impression he is humble. You can of course disagree but I don't think he is a bad PM for Japan.

Interesting that the USA has territorial rights to Chinese lands.

No. The US has a treaty obligation to defend Japanese territory from attack.

U.S., Japan reaffirm alliance"

Again ?

Yes. Always remind the Chinese that Japan has a strong ally.

Japan would make an excellent site to base ICBMs, which could neutralize any local belligerent in a matter of minutes.

Extreme force is the only language these bullies understand.

China may have a lot of planes and ships, but they will prove to be as reliable as any other cheaply made item they produce.

Aren't media always like that? putting up their best photo-op to reflect their stances without words.

I rather salute to Japanese courtesy

Very good. But Japan has to step up its own defense by strengthening it own hard and software, decrease its economic investment in China, and get prepared step by step to establish full diplomatic relationship with Taiwan.

I've concluded that these are an Al- Capon-ish saber rattling for the military industrial complex and players to extort more money from taxpayers coffers. We all know an attack on China or Russia will be light years away different from an attack on Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and the other rag-tag armies before.

Make it illegal for them to have their own military then ask them to pay for our military. And they’ll acquiesce without protest.

The Admiral clearly does not want to be friends having endured fish bentos for 3 days running in his lockdown hotel....

China has criticized the group as an exclusionist bloc based on a Cold War-era mindset.

aww sounds like China wants to be part of the Quad.

In reality China is opposed to the group which is anti China in orientation based on the winning cold war strategy used against the USSR.

Sour grapes Winnie the pooh and his minions.

@C E S, Your adage is confusing...unless Al Capone actually had a saber?

He's showing him to the seats placed on the stage. Seriously.

Is he trying to shake hands?

I have heard these " alliances" against China and Russia, just too many times to think when will they actually go to war ? Even just to stop this refrain ?

I've concluded that these are an Al- Capon-ish saber rattling for the military industrial complex and players to extort more money from taxpayers coffers. We all know an attack on China or Russia will be light years away different from an attack on Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and the other rag-tag armies before. The bellowers, I'm sure , know that well. But please, if it pleases them, on behalf of those of us who want no Unneccesary wars, I say " Dozoh " let's get over it already .

Either someone forgot to tell Suga that covid exists and elbowing is the norm in front of the cameras, or he is asking to have his lunch money back...

"Reaffirm the alliance" means bag man arrives in Tokyo to collect this month's protection racket money from the gutless Japanese shop owner.

the alliance means , how much japan need to pay

At the end of the day, Japan gets off really cheap, considering it is renting a world class military at a small fraction of it's GDP.

Undoubtedly PM Suga is asking Adm Aquilino to please have a seat, as you can see the chair. But from this camera angle it looks like Suga is asking for a tip or something.

At this stage I think that relations between Taiwan and Japan are such that as the fisheries issue is solved, the U.S. should go ahead to recognize the Senkakus as Japanee territory. Rather than under it's administration. The only reason they didn't in 1972 was because of Taiwan's claim, which was usurped by China.

Considering the U.S. position on defending both Taiwan and the Senkakus from China, it would be a a strategically positive step forward with no down side. Everyone knows what is left of the Taiwan claim activists are funded by China anyway.

Promising news for a free and fair Pacific region. More U.S. and Japanese military spending, ships, weapons and personnel, and influence in the region can only be good news.

The expansion of QUAD - the NATO of the Indo-Pacific - will further keep the spread of Communist China in check.

China has criticized the group as an exclusionist bloc based on a Cold War-era mindset.

Funny enough, it is an exclusionist bloc based on a Cold War-era mindset. This is because it is reacting to Chinese behavior.
