Japan continuing to ride the coattails of the US.

More like close allies working in unison. The US can not do it alone.

Why is the world so greedy and still doing business with China? They should cripple their economy as they are doing to Iran. The ONLY thing Trump did somewhat right was his stance on China. He should have been even bolder. Why is the Chinese government so obsessed with aggression? It goes against every Chinese persons character that i have had the pleasure of meeting.

22 ( +27 / -5 )

So true. The actions of the Chinese government do not reflect the feelings of the Chinese people.

That is what you end up with when you dont get a true representation of the will of the people. One party Government and aggression.

" . . . if you want to test a man's (or a country's character in this case) character, give him power."

. . . Abraham Lincoln

Nobody's perfect and in a perfect world everybody would respect one another's human rights & borders by not crossing over them. That's just what China has been doing on different levels. Human rights abuses regarding the Uighur people and the people of Hong Kong, its threats and use of intimidation toward Taiwan and the same in regard to the Senkaku Islands and Japan, its invasion of Tibet, its Covid-19 cover-up, etc. China's a bully. I'm sure the Chinese people are wonderful, but they have no say in how their dictators should govern their country. If China is like this now, what is it going to be like, or, how much worse is it going to be when it has unquestionable power? Now is the time to lay a balanced foundation before it's too late.

Well, we've seen what China is like with some power over the past few decades, and it's quite frightening if what we're seeing now is any indication of what the future holds with a much more powerful China.

they desperately need the help and protection from a west country,U.S.

Japan, the U.S. and other allies need to work together.

Allies share the risk and costs, and China has to bear the risks and costs alone.

The world has to help all the regional nations to stand firm against Chinese incursion that breaks maritime law. You cannot have one rule for one nation and another for everyone else. So, whatever works! Problem is, the man in charge is there for life, so it could be a long job such is the Asian liking for "father figures".

China keeping everyone's off the virus mishap...

Mr Kipling: Same thing probably happening at the Weibo chat rooms too. Of course China's foreign policy is for their benefit, nobody needs to be told that, same with us and Japan. It's for our benefit so what's your point?

No country wants their lands become battle fields. Japan is very dangerous located in between China and U.S.

William- I never met a right winger who was willing to fight and give up his life for his country. Not just Japan but ANYWHERE. most that serve their country are honorable people. the rightwing nutjobs just hide behind a keyboard and spread hate.

Not necessarily. Sometimes they pretend to have bone spurs.

Well done Japan and US for standing up to and speaking out against Communist China. More nations in the region should show some backbone too.

Japan and the US believe, at their very core, in democracy, rule of law, and have a shared love of freedom. All of which China has a hatred of. If things escalate, Japan and the U.S. will have no hesitation in pushing back with no mercy against China.

Very strong start for Blinken so far. Keep up the pressure on the PRC.

Such inconsistency of Japanese and American actions vs words are so glaring that the authoritarian leaders in China must be giggling so hard each time they hear Washingjing's and Tokyojing's da-kine 'international order' , blah-blah-blah speeches! Lol!

The risks China poses to Taiwan are not overlooked by the U.S. Expect support for Taiwan to increase from the more subtle support in the past.

As it stands, Taiwan attended Biden's inauguration, and the U.S. military knows that the timetable for China to invade Taiwan has shortened substantially. All it would take is Taiwan to declare independence or some perceived slight on the Chinese government.

Frankly, Taiwan is likely one of the biggest reason for these talks.

Now when US and Japan can realize the double face and tactics of China. Then why other countries cannot. After continuous warns China neither stopping not getting afraid for its rapid expansion and encroachment in other countries. Why can’t world see how it is practicing genocide in Hong-Kong and Myanmar.

Japan continuing to ride the coattails of the US.

Someone slept through U.S. History 101. That or I guess you suppose Japan needs to build an army to take out China which you would have missed in that history class.

2 ( +7 / -5 )

This all means nothing when individuals, companies, and countries are monetarily incentivized to continue to let China slide. China is a child trying to test their limits because they are ambitious with a chip on their shoulders!

Why would they not try get all they can when Japan or Japanese businesses make it so easy.

In a joint statement, the U.S. officials and their Japanese counterparts warned that "China's behavior, where inconsistent with the existing international order, presents political, economic, military and technological challenges".

US and Japanese behavior, where also inconsistent wherein both called China a threat but still insists on not re-establishing diplomatic ties with ' and like minded fellow democracy ROC-Taiwan.

> Blinken will hold talks with Chinese officials in the United States after his stop in Seoul.

OK, it's all good but why not make just a very brief stop in Taipei first for a selfie with President English Tsai?

America can do it alone. But, to make it look like we are not doing it unilaterally, we ask Japan to join us. And, China has had free a free pass long enough. Time to flex the American muscle again. Love America but I don't like war. Has to be a better way. I love Chinese people. The Chinese Government is just so, silly.

US and Japanese behavior, where also inconsistent wherein both called China a threat but still insists on not re-establishing diplomatic ties with ' and like minded fellow democracy ROC-Taiwan

Here is the problem with your statement. Taiwan has not declared itself to be an independent nation. The leadership of Taiwan has always made the claim to be the legitimate government of all of China exiled to Taiwan by the CCP conquest of the Chinese mainland. For them the Chinese Civil War is still going on. They have never recognized the CCP as the legitimate rulers of mainland China and still consider the ROC government to be that legitimate government. The US used to agree and only recognized ROC as the government of all of China. That position ignored reality. However, since Taiwan itself does not claim to be an independent nation, at least not yet, there is no independent nation of Taiwan to establish diplomatic relations with. The US has the equivalent of an embassy in Taiwan, calling it the "American Institute in Taiwan" and if you look at their web page it is https://usembassy.gov/Taiwan-2/ , "usembassy.gov" says it all if you ask me. It's an embassy in all but name. The real problem for Taiwan is that they know the very instant they declare themselves to be an independent nation mainland China will go to war. Such a war will inevitably draw the US in to what would likely become a nuclear confrontation. Japan, Australia, Canada could also be sucked into this. Nobody really wants to go there. The west was originally of the opinion that given time mainland China would democratize and the conflict would solve itself. That plan looked good through the administration of Hu Jintao, an administration that was even experimenting with holding democratic elections on a small scale in some mainland municipalities. Since Xi Jinping came to power all of that has changed and we are back to the 1960s when Mao was in power. The only way I see Taiwan achieving independence would be for the three NATO nuclear powers, US, UK and France, along with Australia, Canada and any other western ally willing to do so to place their troops in Taiwan and their naval forces close by and do this immediately before Taiwan declared its independence, followed minutes later by the nations vouchsafing Taiwan's security declaring their diplomatic recognition of Taiwan and then signing of a mutual defense pact between Taiwan and the powers aiding her. China might still go to war but I think with enough nations behind her she could prevail against China and China's loss would probably be the end of the CCP.

In the 1980's Japan looked as if it would take over the U.S. in everything. U.S. policy makers must have felt threatened by the sweeping rise of Japan as the world's number one. So they embarked on dismantling Japan's economic system by blatantly putting every word in Japan's internal affairs. Japan's traditional ways of doing business or running a company disappeared during this period. With it followed the decades of Japan’s economic doldrum.

China is said to have studied this precedent of Japan's very minutely. America's impatience with China must be seen in this light.

That is not entirely true. I remember the era well, have books from that period predicting Japan eclipsing the US economically, some even predicting the US and Japan would go to war. There were indeed trade disputes. Every time the delegation of rice growers from California would show up at a Japanese trade show they would be deported. Japan would never grant Qualcomm the RF bands they needed for their cell phone technology to operate in Japan. Etc, etc.. Non-tariff barriers to trade was the term used for these. Japan ran a big trade surplus with the US, but instead of allowing the value of the US Dollar to fall in value as it should have to correct the trade imbalance, Japan used its abundant supply of US Dollars to buy up US Treasury notes. In the process, as businesses exchanged their Dollars for Yen, they inflated the Japanese economy greatly. All that cash led to a real estate and stock buying spree that ran up the prices of both in Japan. It was not a sustainable situation. It was the eventual bursting of the "twin bubbles" in real estate and the stock market, which happened simultaneously, as investors realized both markets were grossly over priced that led to the crash and subsequent decades of economic stagnation. You do have one thing right. China has indeed studied this period of Japanese history and tries to limit its exposure to US debt as well as trying to limit inflation in China. They are only partially successful as there are something like 50 million homes sitting empty in China, big high rises built with speculative loans that threaten to bring major banks down.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

First time to hear about an RF allotment to Qualcomm. You are simply picking on a trivial matter here. Compared with what the U.S. government has done and is doing to make Japanese economy shrink, thus making Japan a client state of the U.S., the Qualcomm issue may be a very trivial, minuscule one.

"The (Chinese) Coast Guard activity around the Senkaku islands is a clear violation of international law," added Japanese Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi.

"The U.S. side reconfirmed their commitment to our country's defense of the Senkaku islands."

[ Nobuo Kishi (岸 信夫, Kishi Nobuo, born April 1, 1959) is a Japanese politician who currently serves as a member of the House of Representatives in the Diet and as Minister of Defense. He is a younger brother of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, and a grandson of former Prime Minister and war criminal Nobusuke Kishi. ]

Well well nice to see you here supporting the same line that you war criminal-reinstated by the CIA grandfather did.

[ Kishi spent the first decade of his life living with his grandfather Nobusuke in Tokyo.[2] He graduated from the Faculty of Economics at Keio University in 1981 and joined Sumitomo Corporation, where he worked until 2002...With his brother Abe's backing, Kishi was elected to the House of Councillors in 2004, representing Yamaguchi Prefecture.[2] In 2019, he publicly advocated for Japan acquiring strike capabilities as a defensive measure against North Korea, stating that Japan should not rely upon the United States for defense.[3]

And great to see the usual in-bred connections alive and well in the LDP, supporting the US military industrial complex ("acquiring strike capabilities") while simultaneously building up Japan's military.

In the latter half of the 20th century through to today, the Americans have been experts at destabilization of foreign countries and regimes via a variety of means. Their record in the Middle East, Latin America, and South East Asia is horrific. Millions of deaths can be laid at the door of the US State Department, intelligence agencies and military. To cap it all off, this was usually done in the name of 'liberal democracy'. Yet the simpletons of JT report on them as if they are the white hats in a Western. Get some nuance you clowns.

I agree with Mr Kipling. No country is more guilty of coercion and destablisation than the US.

It seems the possibility is looming large that China will take over the U.S. in terms of GDP and military force in the near future. So this 2 + 2 meeting can be said to be a way of impatience on the part of the U.S. and Japan.

-10 ( +1 / -11 )

It will be interesting to watch this play out.

Japan is in a difficult position relying on the U.S. to pursue its interests against the CCP. CCP tentacles run deep.

I can be more specific but my post may be deleted, so do your own research- it may take some digging.
