Wrong choice.

J businesses already ‘in bed with Rahm since 2019 include Beam Suntory and Modolez International- Then mayor of Choicago, Emanuel was instrumental in having both relocate HQ’s to Chicago to “create jobs”. Fast forward to 2021 and they are now under investigation for failure to pay sick leave, overtime issues, etc.

Don't expect the U.S. embassy staff to come to your rescue, you are on your own boys and girls.

12 ( +18 / -6 )

It's another Dems' "amateur hour" with the appointment of this Chicago hustler, a predictable confection of more sickly icing on the corrupt cake of the US Senate, proving once again that ole "new clothes" Dem, Joe, can't be expected to learn new tricks.

11 ( +15 / -4 )

The Biden administration just keeps making the same mistakes over and over again. This was the worst choice for Japan and for the U.S.

11 ( +17 / -6 )

What a farce!

11 ( +17 / -6 )

American 'conservatives' (see: Republicans) pushed this regrettable insult to Japan through Congressional confirmation against 'liberal' (see: Democrats) opposition.

Maybe since he was one of the worst mayors in Chicago, they wanted him far from the US as possible.

The sad reality is that most countries use political appointees. People are selected not because of their particular diplomatic or cultural skills, but rather for their political connections. Just look at the recent past five appointees going back to 2000. None of them were trained diplomats prior to becoming ambassadors. But they all had political connections.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

Hopefully his karma will not follow him here.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

But he won support from Republicans Bill Hagerty, a former ambassador to Japan, and Jim Risch, the top Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

A former Trump appointee supporting an Obama/Clinton clique insider in the legislative approval process. Tells you all you need to know about the current US political power structure.

And how fake the bilateral demonization of the polarized spectrum is. All of these individuals have been admitted to the oppressor class club through their "good works".

That is their ability to make sure capital is accrued to the right people and the rest are kept in their place.

That guy is Toxic! He has been banished to Japan.

6 ( +16 / -10 )

Japan is one of the most prized diplomatic posts.

Maybe in the 80's

American 'conservatives' (see: Republicans) pushed this regrettable insult to Japan through Congressional confirmation against 'liberal' (see: Democrats) opposition. That alone is enough to know that this [expletive of choice] is an undesirable mockery for the only real 'friend' the U.S. has in the Pacific, even if that friendship involves a political half-nelson. America has actual 'diplomats' who stand head and shoulders above this guy and would be ideal conduits between our two countries but MONEY rules in America and can buy even travesties such as this miscreant's appointment which would indicate the Biden Administration's regard for Japan and 'comtempt' would not be an overblown assessment.

Poor choice.

America's undisputed long term ruling party, the M-I C, would never allow their hands to be tied by any proclamation made by the puppet in chief to appease the liberal progressives.

Rahm Emanuel. A complete barbarian in service to all the corrupt factions that rule over the USA. Biden, selects the hatchet man from the Obama administration - Emanuel a foul creature who has absolutely no diplomatic skills - one of the worst Chicago mayors.

The Biden administration: a vapid old man not in complete control of his senses who would be more 'at home' running a pirate ship. Anoints one of 'his own' - a conservative democratic, far right of the center, as a reward for helping destroy the Democratic Party and turning it into an entity controlled by finance capital.

A further sign of the decline of the American Empire.

I don’t see how it’s “offensive/vulgar”that I plan to personally tell him how horrible he is after he arrives.

ROFL, I am sure he has his diary open for all kinds of fantasists and their delusions!,,

Kazunga, no most countries use professional career diplomats.

The US practice of handing out sinecure ambassadorships as a reward to party hacks and donors has long been a subject of considerable amusement and derision in the countries they are inflicted upon. Generally they are treated with the public politeness their position requires and the private disregard they deserve. Having said that some rise above the very low expectation and actually end up earning respect, alas not all.

It’s a plumb position, no experience needed. All you have to do is pretend the local dishes don’t make you vomit in camera shot. Other than that all the important stuff is funnelled thorough previously organised channels. It’s a face not a actual position of responsibility.

Another appointee that fails to impress.

Mr Emanuel, prior to starting his political carrier, served in the Israeli military

I've read on various sites that is not true. They say he worked as a civilian in Israel in 1991 and helped the Israeli defense forces (by repairing trucks according to some accounts).

Watch out for this guy. One of Obama's henchmen and he destroyed Chicago as Mayor.

At least he said that he'll try to help Greg Kelly and he is aware about Japan hostage justice system.

A Democrat president selects a Democrat operative - and yet it's all the Republicans who did it. Those Republicans sure must be powerful. Is it a kind of mind-control they are using?

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Rest easy. This is a man who never lets a crisis go to waste.

Watch out for this guy. One of Obama's henchmen and he destroyed Chicago as Mayor.

No anti-societal divisiveness here. Carry on.

Mr Emanuel, prior to starting his political carrier, served in the Israeli military and should have lost his U.S. citizenship.

Are you sure? That sounds like disinformation. Is this something you fact-checked?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

No surprise here. Yet another political hack being rewarded for his loyal service to The Party. This is an insult to Japan really. I can understand making completely unqualified people Ambassadors to minor countries like Lesotho or Costa Rica. But Japan?!? A fellow G-7 member, vital partner in global security, major trading partner? Ridiculous.

By contrast to Rahm, let's see who JAPAN has sent to Washington as Ambassador....

previous Ambassador to Korea and Israel

directorships in many international embassies, specializing in security and foreign policy

40 years' experience in MOFA

etc.

He has been banished to Japan.

Reveals a lot about your opinion of Japan.

Japan is one of the most prized diplomatic posts.

-2 ( +10 / -12 )

Mr Emanuel, prior to starting his political carrier, served in the Israeli military and should have lost his U.S. citizenship.

He should not represent the United States of America anywhere, especially not in Japan.

This was fine, remember?

Let’s make sure we show up wherever we have to show up,” Waters told a crowd in California over the weekend. “If you see anybody from that cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd, and you push back on them, and you tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere.”

can we not criticize Rahm Emmanuel?

The US never respected Japan ever. They destroyed the Japanese economy permanently with Plaza Accords and the semiconductors agreement in the 1990s.

The US can unilaterally genocide every Japanese leader and elite tomorrow, and no one in the world will care. In the past, the US threatened to seize Ryukyu islands if Japan reached a resolution with USSR on the Kurils. They did in the past, so they can do it with entire Japan.

What pisses me off is the Japanese elites like Shinzo Abe and folks in Nippon Kaigi keep kowtowing to the malevolent masters in the US!

I would have liked to see Michelle Kwan appointed to the Japan post.
