More of a response to China’s increasing noise over Taiwan than any honor of Abe. And on to Korea she will go for the same purpose.
TokyoJoe
Did she ever meet Abe?.
Well why not, she's not paying for the private plane, security, 5star hotels, Ginza steak dinners. WE ARE.

VIP should come, it already expensive. It will be a huge waste if those VIPs doesn't arrive.

It’s not a private visit. Vice President Kamala Harris is representing the US.

I guarantee you, not one Japanese “guard” will be on Kamala duty.
Her own Secret Service Agents would smoke them out before even getting a look at her.
So tell us again, how is this ¥1.6 Billion is being spent on Japanese “security” again?
Good
We are honored by her presence.

I thought having Rahm Emmanuel was enough, no?

State Funeral in a friendly country - US Protocol dictates the VP attends - why such bitterness? @TokyoJoe: Also, what is this fascination with 'Ginza Steak Dinners' on every post when it comes to Government affairs? And YOU will not be paying for her transportation. Partly for the security arrangements for the whole thing and she will prob bed down at the Ambassadors residence as its an official visit. Relax mate,
Do we really think $11 Million Dollars is that extortionate considering those that will be visiting?

"state funeral" for nationalism politician who cooperates each other with cult groups to win election and who continued to ruin democracy.
Moreover, it is constitutional violation.

Tomorrow's headline:
Abe funeral cost skyrockets to ¥3.4 billion as more dignitaries decide to attend!
wallace
It's not a funeral, a state memorial. Abe already had his private funeral and is interned in his family grave.
wallace
The protocols are already in place before Biden/Harris election.
VP Harris will fly on Air Force Two and stay at the American Embassy resident. Nothing is financed by Japan.
She will also visit South Korea.
Tom San
Her presence will awe the Japanese people.

I could care less. I think both are funny.

I am against the Abe Good Bye Party, but if you are invited, free food!

National funeral that costs 700 million yen, who is paying for that, from the politicians pockets or our taxes?

Actually the cost was supposed to be ¥ 800 million 50/50 LDP and tax payers.
Now it is ¥1.6 billion twice the price with the LDP supposed to pay half what a coincidence ¥800 million the original cost!
wallace
The original cost cited by the government was ¥250 million now raising to ¥1.6 billion or $11 million.

Alexandre T. Ishii: You are, as you know. That was 19 words wasted you will never get back.
A lot larger amount of your tax this year will also be used on things you don't personally use or need either.
Personally, I don't know why it's deemed that Abe requires a 'state' memorial either, but people in power have decided as such and asking rhetorical questions on a website mostly read by foreigners isn't going to stop it.
@bass4funk : You also, know that once it's deemed 'state', as a friendly country the VP will attend. Pretty sure Pence would have come to represent Trump if he had still been in power.
stickman1760
Will Trump come? They supposedly were dear friends but I suspect Trump, being the type of person he is, won’t be bothered to make the trip.
theResident
Will Trump come? Not a chance. He'd only come if Abe had something to offer him. Now he's dead Trump probably doesn't even remember who he was.

Are any other former leaders of a country showing up?
But I agree--it is a bit disrespectful sending Harris.
Antiquesaving
Well we previously had and article here ( now deleted) that said Obama was coming.
But nothing since.

It's not disrespectful. The VP is the designated funeral-goer. That is what they do.
Just because you don't like her doesn't mean it's inappropriate for her to come.
