You'd better make that heard loud n' clear because trump will be touting it as a major victory for himself. Japan could never and will never replace the China market. The population is dwindling and increasing in age, where is the demand for corn? Livestock feed? Ok, but demand for meat will be decreasing because of the population.

Minnesota's 10 Electoral College votes went to Clinton in 2016. Trump and the GOP would really have to increase subsidies to the state's corporate farms (aka socialism for the rich) to get them to pay enough into Trump's coffers to get more from Trump.

Given Minnesota has long voted for Democratic presidential candidates, Trump, Inc might decide to allow the state to remain hurt by his 'policies'. After all, Trump' first concern is for himself and his family's wealth - and paying off debts to international 'financiers'.

Population of China, 1.39 billion.

Population of South Korea and Japan, combined, 0.178 billion.

The SK and Japanese markets are important to American farmers, but will never supplant China's market.

"There's not enough market in the rest of the world to absorb our capacity."

and what was that about China needing America more than vice versa!? In terms of agriculture that myth is just that. Meanwhile Brazil and Argentina are happily taking up that market share America has lost to China, that easy to win trade war doesn't seem so easy now does it.

That's with respect to US agricultural products. China has taken an equally large hit with their top export to the US; data processing and storage devices as well as electric wire and fiber optic cables. Mexico has now become the top exporter of this category to the US. Trade wars naturally produces some losses on both sides.

Regarding Brazil taking up market share, it has been posited that the principal reason for destroying the Amazon rainforest is to make more land available for beef and soybeans.

When soy beans do not sell then raise some thing else people will pay or.

I just read a very beneficial article on CNN about country dealing with economic challenges that I think every Head of State including myself should read. The article title is: Putin builds a war chest while the Kremlin braces for its next crisis. It is a real eye opener that Pres Trump really needs to read or have read to him.

Temporary and different from cradle to grave lifelong entitlements.

Hmmmm, That kind of convoluted thinking is what will crush Democrats. By the way, what is their message? Besides promising things they can never fulfill? What is their plan for beating Trump? The Russian hoax is played out as well as everything else Dems threw at Trump.

Japanese won't buy any more US products. Even no tariffs for cars and many others. They just won't buy them, you are not able to see any US branded cars in the street. They just don't buy it

China has already backed off on its threats to add additional tariffs to American soy beans and pork. China's domestic producers are facing a severe threat from swine flu. China will need American pork and beans for the foreseeable future.

Japanese has a strong market in all of Asia. Since when does china have the ONLY market? There's a very Big world out there the last time I looked. Minnesota Gov. Doesn't ship anything nor does he know enough. For All your information the ports are working and are trucks are going coast to coast. We are still shipping people! Japan is a great country with very smart people with a lot of honor. Every year about this time of year market drops prices right before harvesting. If you are a farmer you already know why.

As the top poster CORRECTLY pointed out, Japans population is well into DECLINE, so there is now way(except for the occasional small spike) that Japan will be importing more corn or soy from the US, it will & likely is already in decline like so many other major commodities like oil & gas etc

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Both Japan and South Korea have aging declining populations, not to mention that even together they do not match the import volume of China. So the Governor of Minnestota is an idiot if he actually thinks these two countries can "make up the losses" from exports to China. On the other hand neither South Korea nor Japan are strategic adversaries of the United States, nor are they seeking to replace the United States economically amd militarily.

America'[s farmers were dying without China!

And which state would that be?

John Sun: “Japanese won't buy any more US products. Even no tariffs for cars and many others. They just won't buy them, you are not able to see any US branded cars in the street. They just don't buy it”

They don’t buy them essentially because the markets here are effectively quarantined from having to go head to head with superior foreign imports. A compliant populace has internalised a false consciousness view that Japanese products are superior. It thrives despite people having zero actual contact with the foreign products they won’t hesitate to bad mouth.

America is quite capable of manufacturing many "superior" goods. But Automobiles is not one of them. Just ask any American. And just like Americans. the Japanese buy German cars. I see Fiats, Volvos and even Alfas. I've owned enough American made cars to know they are garbage. They start falling apart at 5 years.

“America is quite capable of manufacturing many "superior" goods.”

Unfortunately, we here in Japan are too often denied those superior American (and other countries) goods. Our recompense for being compelled to accept inferior domestic products, the dubious satisfaction of knowing that taking one for the team is its own reward.

Japanese may indeed buy German cars, but they hate being reminded of their propensity for tokenism designed to forestall closer examination of its (compared with Germany) far more protected automobile market. The value of German foreign auto imports is five times greater than Japan’s.
